1. Which pitcher in the 1990s won the most games in the decade?

Answer: Greg Maddux

Nicknamed "Mad Dog", Maddux played three seasons with the Cubs, winning the Cy Young Award in 1992, then played the rest of the decade with the Braves. Greg would win three more consecutive Cy Youngs in 1993, 1994, and 1995. He was also the runner-up in 1997. Winning 176 games in the decade, he won 15+ in every season and was a 20-game winner twice. Mad Dog was probably the last 300-game career winner, and certainly the last 350-game winner with his 355-227 record.

When he retired in 2008 as a Dodger, he was eighth all-time in wins, one win more than Roger Clemens. The photo is a sign depicting Greg's nickname.
2. Which team in 1991 won the World Series, the franchise's third World Series crown in its history?

Answer: Minnesota Twins

The Twins were originally the Washington Senators, and the franchise won their only World Series there in 1924 with the help of the great Walter Johnson. After moving to Minnesota in 1961, they would win their first for the Minnesota fans in 1987. They repeated in 1991 against the Braves in a four games to three victory. Five of the seven games were decided by one run.

3. Some baseball fans might know that Yankee Don Larsen threw the first-ever World Series perfect game in 1956. Which Dodger pitcher went up against Larsen in that game?

Answer: Sal Maglie

Maglie was also on track on that 1956 historical day of October 8, in the game five contest. Sal, nicknamed "The Barber", threw a five-hitter while giving up a solo home run to Mickey Mantle. The Yankees would go on to win the series, four games to three. Of course, Dodgers fans would say that home plate umpire Babe Pinelli was just gracious that day.

4. Which of these teams lost 100 games in a season only once in the 20th century?

Answer: Giants

The Giants' only flub in their franchise history since 1883 was the 1985 season. They went 62-100 in the season under former Giant player Jim Davenport, who was fired with 18 games left in the season. Roger Craig came in and finished off the season with his 6-12 record.
The Athletics were in Philadelphia, Kansas City, and Oakland, and they hit the century mark in losses an amazing 16 times. Phillies lost 100+ games 14 times in the century. The Pirates lost 100 or more in a season five times. Even the Yankees franchise got into the act when they lost 103 games in 1908 and 102 games in 1912 as the New York Highlanders. The Cardinals and Dodgers also hit the century mark twice in the century.

Answer: Tracy Stallard

Maris played in a 162-game season implemented in 1961, while Ruth hit his 60 in a 154-game season in 1927. Number 61 came on October 1 against the Red Sox. It was Roger's first career hit off Stallard. The Yankees won the game 1-0 with Maris' shot.

6. Hall of Fame great Jimmie Foxx was the second slugger in history to hit 500 home runs. How did he die in 1967 at the age of 59?

Answer: Choked on food

Foxx reached the 500 home run milestone in 1940 with the Red Sox. His biggest season statistically was in 1932, hitting 58 home runs, batting .364, having 213 hits, and just missing out on the Triple Crown. He would bat for the Triple Crown the following season. Jimmie won the AL MVP three times, in 1932, 1933, and 1938. Foxx retired with 534 home runs in 1945.

Answer: 6

The decade was good for baseball and fans. In 1970, they saw Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh and Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati. Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia opened its doors in 1971. The 1973 season saw Royals Stadium in Kansas City. Olympic Stadium opened for the Expos in 1977, as did the Kingdome in Seattle.

Answer: Sam McDowell

McDowell played most of his career with the Indians in the 1960s and 1970s. His worst loss season was in 1967 when he went 13-15. Sam was a 20-game winner in 1970 and won the AL TSN Pitcher of the Year Award, finishing third for the Cy Young behind Jim Perry and Dave McNally.
Craig was with the dismal Mets in 1962 and 1963 when he lost 24 and 22 games, respectively. The Hall of Famer Niekro hit the 20-loss mark twice in the 1970s with the Braves. Ellsworth lost 20+ twice in the 1960s with the Cubs.

Answer: Walter Johnson

Only three pitchers won 200+ games in a decade. Leading the pack was Walter Johnson of the Senators who won 265 games in the 1910s. Runner-up was the Giants' great Christy Mathewson who won 236 in the decade of the 1900s. The breakdown by decade are:
