1. Who threw the first no-hitter for the San Francisco Giants?

Answer: Juan Marichal

Marichal was the first pitcher in the 20th Century to throw one. He did it on June 16th, 1963.
2. Who was the first catcher to win a season MVP award?

Answer: Mickey Cochrane

Cochrane was the very first catcher in 1934 with the Tigers. Ironically, Hartnett followed that year with his own MVP in 1935 with Chicago.
3. Who was the first switch-hitter to have 100 hits from each side of the plate in one season?

Answer: Gary Templeton

Templeton was first in 1979 with St.Louis. Wilson was the first National Leaguer in 1980. The Mick never accomplished this.
4. Which of these pitchers hit a home run in first Major League at-bat, and retired after more than 10 years with that one home run in his total career?

Answer: Hoyt Wilhelm

Wilhelm hit his four-bagger in April, 1952 with the New York Giants. He retired after 20 years in the Majors with 1 home run and 45 total bases.
5. What National Leaguer was the first to receive an unanimous vote for a season MVP award?

Answer: Orlando Cepeda

Cepeda won his unanimous MVP in 1967 with St. Louis. Hank Greenberg was the first American Leaguer in 1938 with Detroit.
6. With a minimum of 100 pinch-hit at-bats, which of these players had a pinch-hitting average of .122?

Answer: Tony Kubiak

At the lcose of the 20th century Kubiak was number two on the all-time list for worst pinch-hitters with .122 from 1967-1976. Ivan Murrell has the honor of having the lowest with .117 going 21 for 180 ending in 1974.

Answer: Fernando Tatis

Tatis did this with the St. Louis Cardinals on April 23rd, 1999.
8. During the 20th century: what team went the entire season without hitting one home run out of the park?

Answer: Washington

In 1945 the Washington Senators mustered only one home run the entire season. Their first baseman Joe Kuhel hit the only home run of the year. It was an inside-the-park home run.
9. Which of these pitchers is credited with pitching a 27-out perfect non-complete game?

Answer: Ernie Shore

On June 23rd, 1917, Red Sox pitcher Ernie Shore replaced Babe Ruth who was ejected in the first inning after walking the first batter Ray Morgan. With Shore's first pitch, catcher Sam Agnew threw out Morgan who was trying to steal second. Shore then retired 26 Washington batters in a row.
10. Which of these players had two sons win batting titles?

Answer: Ewart Walker

Ewart Walker pitched for Washington from 1909-1912 and fathered the famous pair of Dixie and Harry Walker. Dixie won a NL batting title in 1944 and Harry won one in 1947.
