Cobb provided his 4000th hit with revenge against the Tigers who traded him. He hit a double off Sam Gibson of Detroit on July 19th, 1927.
2. What pitcher did Roger Maris hit that 61st home run off?

Answer: Tracy Stallard

Maris of the Yankees hit it off Stallard and the Boston Red Sox on October 1st, 1961, for the most famous asterik in baseball history (HRs in a season), erased by the great Mark McGwire in 1998 with 70 HRs for the season.
3. What player was the next infielder after Eddie Collins to obtain 3000 career hits?

Answer: Rod Carew

Carew got his 3000th hit on August 4th, 1985 off Frank Viola of the Twins. On the same day, Tom Seaver threw his 300th victory which both milestones overshadowed each other.
