Answer: New York Giants

The New York Giants were based out of New York from 1883 to 1958 before they moved out to San Francisco.
2. In 1958, this team moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles and became which team?

Answer: Dodgers

The Brooklyn Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in 1958 to join the San Francisco Giants in California. The franchise had been in Brooklyn since their beginning in the late 1800s.

Answer: Moved to Kansas City

The first Washington Senators lasted from 1891 to 1899 before being dropped in a reduction of teams. The second team came in 1901 and lasted until 1960, before moving to Minneapolis and becoming the Minnesota Twins. The next year in came the third and final Senators who lasted until 1971 until moving to Arlington to become the Texas Rangers.

After a 34-year hiatus, MLB rewarded Washington D.C with the Washington Nationals, a team moved that from Montreal.

In 1967, the NHL awarded the cities of Los Angeles (Kings), Oakland (Seals), Minneapolis (Minnesota North Stars), Pittsburgh (Penguins), Philadelphia (Flyers), and St. Louis (Blues). In 1925, the NHL awarded an expansion team to Pittsburgh called the Pirates, who lasted 5 seasons before being shipped across the state to Philadelphia, and the newly-named Quakers lasted only one season before folding. Meanwhile, in the miidle of the Great Depression, the fledging Ottawa Senators moved to St. Louis as the Eagles and lasted 1 season before going under.

In 1926, the NHL expanded to Detroit and were named the Cougars after the team bought the Victoria (BC) Cougars. The name lasted 4 seasons before the name was changed to Falcons. Two years later in 1932, the Detroit Red Wings were born.

These were real original teams. The New York Yankees football team existed from 1926-1928, while the Cincinnati Reds lasted for 1933 and the first half of 1938 before being suspended. The Cleveland Indians played in Cleveland during the 1921 and 1931 seasons. Boston has had many football teams, many even playing at Fenway Park, but none called the Red Sox.

The Cleveland Rams began operating in 1937, and 11 seasons later packed up and moved to Los Angeles for a successful 49 years. The franchise then moved to St. Louis.

The Chicago Cardinals were in Chicago until 1959 when moving to the "Gateway to the West", and the St. Louis Cardinals (confused with the baseball team) for 27 years were in that city. In 1987, they packed up and moved farther to the southwest to Tempe, and the Phoenix Cardinals came about in 1994. The team changed their name to the Arizona Cardinals to try and increase the fan base.

The Minneapolis Lakers began as the Detroit Gems in 1946, and one season later moved to Minneapolis. That team lasted 13 years before packing up and heading to the US Southwest coast.
