Internet shorthand, most commonly referred to as "chat speak", consists of using acronyms to abbreviate phrases, missing punctuation and an overall lack of capitalization. That's just an example, and does not consist of all of the forms of chat speak. Hank had just awoken from an intense dream about Bill being a priest and Karen being a nun. Meredith used the acronym "LOL" when she spoke to him and he explained how much the internet lingo pained him as a writer. While using the chat speak is quick when texting, I have never used them in my own speech. I found Meredith's spoken use of "LOL" extremely annoying and it pained me as well.

Hank arrived at Mia's school wearing the jacket. He then proceeded to dissuade her class about becoming a writer. He suggested a few alternatives to writing, including being a ditch digger and an umpire.

Dave was Becca's new guitar teacher. She was very excited to see him, and even changed her clothes when he knocked on the door. After the lesson, he flirted with Karen and Mia, but in a laid back 60s rocker kind of way, not in an obvious and crude Tommy Lee kind of way.

Joaquin Pastor, a simply beautiful man, played Dave the guitar teacher. Dave wore a t-shirt with a rude message about Sting, to which Karen objected on Becca's behalf. So, Dave took it off and turned it around right in front of Karen and Mia.

"A New Earth" is by author Eckhart Tolle and became an Oprah Book Club pick in 2008. "God Hates Us All" is the most popular of Hank's novels, and also the one turned into the Tom and Katie smash romedy "A Crazy Little Thing Called Love".

Hank expressed wanting to ask Oprah about the scene in "Beloved" where Sethe squats down to use the restroom. He wanted to know how many takes she did and if she was "method". Hank then went on to rip apart the chat speakers of the world.

Hank's diatribe on the radio infuriated her, but she finally admitted that it was due to Jonathan Mandel leaving his wife Nikki that she was leaving. We met the couple in the previous episode, "Fear and Loathing at the Fundraiser". Hank seemed a bit sad to be saying goodbye to Meredith; I think mostly due to the fact that they had a blast together and he knew married guy would go back to his wife.

He was trying to cheer her up after she'd watched Mia go on a date with her guitar teacher. He quoted her something very old, I believe it was from a book, and she asked him to provide some more recent encouragement. He asked her if she had heard any of Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks" album.

He then began a rendition of "Say Hello", which trailed into Dylan's version playing over the scene as it closed.
