Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Chris Rock wasted no time skewering the lack of diversity in the nominations this year. He suggested that if "Host" was picked via nomination, he wouldn't be the host. Who did he say would have been standing in his place?

Answer: Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris hosted the Oscars the previous year. Chris Rock's entire monologue dealt with the issue of diversity, and set himself right in the middle, looking at the issue from both points of view. He had the house laughing uncomfortably, which is generally his goal in any of his stand-up routines, so mission accomplished.

But he wouldn't cease on the subject at the end of the monologue.
2. Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt came to introduce the first award, and in doing so, unveiled the order of how the awards would be presented during the night. What would the order be determined by?

Answer: The process of making a movie

Looking at the process of making a movie, you first need a script. And so...Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay were the first two awards given. The respective winners were "Spotlight" and "The Big Short".
3. Sarah Silverman would introduce the first nominated song of the night. She would use this time to expose her personal relationship "issues" with what movie character?

Answer: James Bond

Stating that Bond hasn't called or texted her since their night together, she went on a mock tirade on Bond's difficulties with women, having had relations with over fifty women in 24 movies (more than two per movie) and realizing most of the women wanted to kill him afterward.
4. The winners of Best Costume Design were from "Mad Max: Fury Road". The winner brought up something that was both new this year and ubiquitous during each award speech. What was Jenny Beavan referring to?

Answer: A pre-written scroll of "thank you's" from the winner

Usually the scroll consisted of the personal thank-you's, rather than those that the winners directly worked with; those thank-you's were saved for the actual speech.
5. Benicio Del Toro came on to present the montage for one of the Best Picture nominees. It was after this presentation that we discovered, humorously, that one of the stars from the movie was in the audience. Who was the surprising attendee?

Answer: The bear from "The Revenant"

Sure, it was a guy in a bear suit, but boy, was he enthusiastic in his applause for the movie. Shots immediately following had a couple of confused looks on people's faces, as if they weren't quite sure they saw what they saw.
6. Andy Serkis, one of the stalwarts in the visual effects business, came on to explain how visual effects technology allows any world to exist in movies. He mentioned that Chris Rock could be transformed into what headline-making real life person?

Answer: Donald Trump

Using the words "megalo-maniacal" and "power hungry" to counteract the opposite spectrum from Donald Trump, then stating that actually that isn't much of a stretch at all, this jab did not meet with any disapproval from the mostly liberal audience.
7. Coming out of a commercial, Chris Rock took the opportunity to help out his kids with some personal work. What did he implore the financially stable audience to do?

Answer: Buy his daughters' Girl Scout Cookies

The daughters were not there, but a number of Los Angeles Girl Scouts entered from the stage with cookies to purchase on the spot. Chris spared no name dropping in mentioning how much money some of the actors made this year. He did let Louis Gossett Jr. off the hook as he said he had diabetes.

He would come on later to reveal he raised over $65,000, thereby locking #1 in their Girl Scout Troop.
8. Chris Rock even went far enough to go to a predominantly black neighborhood and get opinions of some people on the subject of diversity. What neighborhood did he go to?

Answer: Compton, California

Humorous moments included some of the people having no idea that some of these Oscar-nominated movies existed, and mock acceptance speeches where Rock had the people on the street say what they would had they been nominated and won.
9. On the handing out of the Best Documentary Short Feature, the presenter jokingly said "Mad Max: Fury Road" had won, as the movie had won the majority of the awards so far. What comedian pulled this joke off?

Answer: Louis CK

Louis CK also opened his presentation stating Best Short Doc was his favorite award, because it is for people who will never make any money ever in their life. The makers go out and give their lives to make these important issue-revealing movies and they drive off in their Honda Civics.
10. Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters came on to play during the annual "In Memoriam" tribute. What song did he perform acoustically as a music bed for the visual montage of those that have left us this past year?

Answer: "Blackbird" from The Beatles

Playing against type, Grohl had a poignant performance, sounding a little like Bruce Springsteen. Sadly leaving us this year were Leonard Nimoy, Alan Rickman and David Bowie, all featured along with many others.
11. A brief skit with the legendary droids from the "Star Wars" movie series, C3PO, R2D2 and BB8 made a comment about nominee John Williams being in the audience. C3PO mentioned he was nominated tonight for the score for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens". What number nomination was this for Williams, according to C3PO?

Answer: 50th

Unbelievable! FIFTY nominations! But once you look at his musical resume, you realize he is behind so many movie scores, including almost all of Steven Spielberg's movies.
12. Lady Gaga came on to perform her gripping song about rape titled "Til It Happens To You" was introduced with an equally powerful introduction by someone who was out of his element on the Hollywood stage. Who was the person to introduce Gaga?

Answer: Joe Biden

Gaga's performance featuring actual victims of rape seemed like a good bet to win Best Song, but the award would go to Sam Smith's contribution to the latest James Bond film "Spectre". That song was named "Writing's On the Wall".
13. Leonardo DiCaprio, as the victor in the Best Actor category, used the platform to speak on the an important subject experienced on his making of his movie, "The Revenant". What was the subject?

Answer: Climate Change

According to DiCaprio, 2015 was the hottest year on record, and with that the crew had to go to the southern tips of South America to finish the movie as it was the only place that had snow.
14. Chris closed out the show thanking the crowd for helping with his daughters' endeavours. Who accompanied him at the mic enjoying the fruits of their labors?

Answer: Michael Keaton

Opening up a box of cookies, Keaton grabbed a few and ate them there on the stage. He was already on stage as part of the cast of "Spotlight", the just-announced Best Picture winner. He was side by side with Morgan Freeman, the one who read the envelope.
15. Rolling the credits to end the show, one last jab at the 210-minute long ad nauseum display of lack-of-diversity jokes, the song played over the credits was what?

Answer: "Fight the Power" by Public Enemy

Chris Rock never let up on the subject, from the first words out of his mouth to even after his mic was shut off. It beared some recognition, but many on social media thought it had been worn thin after two hours. And there was still 90 more minutes to come.
