Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Starting at 8:30PM Eastern Standard Time, the broadcast opened with a musical performance, a song and dance routine by which entertainment superstar?

Answer: Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake did a mash-up of his Oscar-nominated song from "Trolls", "Can't Stop the Feeling", and a 1977 Bill Withers song, "Lovely Day". Jimmy Kimmel joked in his monologue that Justin's performance should get the rest of the band N*SYNC to let him back in the reunion tour.
2. Jimmy Kimmel continued the opening process of the show by discussing the tension in the USA from the political unrest going on. He suggested all of us find one person soon and discuss the disagreements with them, that will help make America great again. He also added he would make efforts to end his long standing feud with one of the people in the audience. Who was this nemesis of Kimmel?

Answer: Matt Damon

Matt Damon has been in a fake quarrel with Jimmy Kimmel on Kimmel's late night talk show for many years. They continued it on this broadcast, with Kimmel sending back-handed compliments Damon's way, even bringing up Matt Damon's box office flop, "The Great Wall". Jimmy was relentless throughout the show, even doing a mock tribute to Matt's movie, "We Bought a Zoo", prior to Matt and his buddy Ben Affleck presenting. And he hijacked the orchestra and tried to "play off" Matt Damon during his presentation.
3. Colleen Atwood won for Best Costuming for her work on "Fantastic Beasts (and Where To Find Them)". In her acceptance speech she opened with the information that a fellow 2017 nominee had predicted she would win tonight. Who was the soothsayer with the gift of clairvoyance?

Answer: Sting

Sting, in his quick sideshot during the acceptance speech, was a little shocked he had made the acceptance speech. The other three were co-stars in "Hidden Figures". The "Hidden Figures" stars would soon be on to present the Best Documentary Feature Oscar, and would take time to bring on one of the actual women portrayed in "Hidden Figures", Katherine Johnson.
4. Quoting the end of a joke Jimmy Kimmel gave from the aisles, "And midway through the broadcast the audience TURNED on Kimmel...". This line followed a joke that was met with groans. Who was the subject of the joke?

Answer: O.J. Simpson

The Oscar for Documentary Feature went to a film where the subject was O.J. Simpson, and Kimmel's joke was in a little poor taste as some comedy can be. I found it kinda funny, but it was a groaner.
5. Jimmy told the crowd coming out of a commercial that there would be some special guests attending the soiree, who would these attendees be?

Answer: Riders of a Hollywood tour bus

Jimmy told the audience while showing a live clip of the tour bus on a street just outside the venue that the riders would be told they would be seeing an exhibit based on the gowns that people would be wearing for the Oscars and then brought in to be completely surprised on live television.
6. Charlize Theron would present an award with a mentor of hers, Shirley MacLaine. Prior to it, clips were shown of Charlize watching a movie that always inspired Theron. What Shirley MacLaine movie was this?

Answer: The Apartment

Shirley thanked the audience for the ovation saying she hadn't ever received praise like that in 200,000 years, referencing her belief in re-incarnation.
7. The Best Foreign Film went to "The Salesman", directed and written by Asghar Farhadi. He did not attend to protest the travel ban imposed by Trump on a handful of Middle Eastern countries. Which country was the movie and director from?

Answer: Iran

A spokesperson read from a prepared statement written by Farhadi stating he would not attend the event as a condemnation of President Donald Trump's travel ban.
8. There was a moment in between award presentations that one of the actors stepped in as a makeshift officiant in a wedding. Who was it that uttered the words, "I now pronounce you husband and wife"?

Answer: Denzel Washington

The aforementioned tour bus riders were let in and Jimmy Kimmel interviewed them in the midst of their starstruckedness. Two were engaged to be married and the woman was asked who her favorite actor was, she said, "THAT man", and pointed to Denzel Washington in the front row. Denzel quickly stood up, stood in between them for a selfie video and said to them the previously mentioned words, along with, "You may kiss the bride".

The fiance did.
9. Seth Rogen shared the duties of presenting the award for Best Editing. What did they come out of to approach the microphone?

Answer: A 1982 DeLorean automobile

Seth presented with Michael J. Fox after a film segment of how "Back to the Future" was Seth favorite movie when he was young, and how well the movie holds up. Michael and Seth received a standing ovation, to which Seth acknowledged the ovation was mostly not for him. No mention of how they produced the 1.21 gigawatts of power needed to get them to the show.
10. Javier Bardem presented with Meryl Streep, which was preceded with a clip of Javier talking about one of Meryl's great performances from 1995. What was the movie he did a short commentary on before handing out the Best Cinematography award?

15. "La La Land" was introduced as Best Picture, completing seven wins. What unprecedented event occurred during the acceptance speeches by the producers of "La La Land"?

Answer: They were told they didn't win

Warren Beatty was given the wrong card and tried to figure out a way out of the awkward problem, but Faye Dunaway read the movie on the card. What the card was for was the Best Actress winner, Emma Stone. but the actual winner was "Moonlight". This fact was not unveiled until at least two people had delivered their thank you speeches for "La La Land". Once the true winner was explained, the producer understood and was very gracious in handing the award to the brains behind "Moonlight". Surely this moment will go down in Academy Award infamy
