Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Andy Griffith Show
Answer: Goober
Goober worked at the local gas station. He was Gomer Pyle's cousin who took over after Gomer joined the Marines and had his own spinoff series. He spent a lot of time hanging around Sheriff Andy Taylor and Floyd the barber. He was the only regular male character who stayed with the series after Barney left and after Andy left. He also played the part on the variety show "Hee Haw".
2. The Love Boat
Answer: Gopher
Gopher was the nickname of the yeoman-purser on the Pacific Princess cruise liner. This was a one hour comedy series which mixed up three or four stories each week involving passengers on the ship and some of the crew members.
3. M*A*S*H
Answer: B.J.
B.J. was the name of the doctor who joined the cast of the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in Korea after Blake and Trapper John had left the series. Hawkeye became his tent mate and friend. One time Hawkeye looked in B.J.'s records to find out what "B.J." stood for. It said "B.J."
4. Barnaby Jones
Answer: J.R.
J.R. was a young cousin of elderly Barnaby Jones, a private detective usually solving murders. He helped Barnaby work on cases on this series before the more famous J.R. appeared on "Dallas".
5. The Odd Couple
Answer: Felix
The sitcom involved two poker buddies who moved in together after leaving their wives. Felix's wife had kicked him out for his habit of trying to keep everything at home spotless. Oscar was a slob. This caused them to argue sometimes.
6. Barney Miller
Answer: Fish
Fish looked old, but he was an effective police detective working for Captain Barney Miller. More than once he talked someone out of blowing up the place, or committing some other crime. He briefly has his own spinoff series, "Fish".
7. Charlie's Angels
Answer: Bosley
"Charlie's Angels" involved three female private detectives and one man, Bosley. Charley was a voice on a speaker phone who gave them an assignment each week. This was much like "Mission: Impossible". They each had a false identity (they lied about themselves) to find out about illegal activities happening somewhere. Bosley sometimes went with them, and sometimes was comedy relief. Kelly and Bosley, and Charlie's voice, were the only characters to stay with the series from beginning to end.
8. The Jeffersons
Answer: Bentley
Bentley was the British neighbor of the Jeffersons. Each week he came into their apartment to borrow something or tell a story about a relative or a girl friend. Early in the series he had George Jefferson walk on Bentley's bad back while Bentley lay on the floor.
9. Three's Company
Answer: Chrissy Snow
Three people lived together in an apartment. Jack was a chef who did the cooking. Janet and Chrissy were the two women. Chrissy was the sexy blonde, played by Suzanne Somers who became famous and starred in movies during the series. She reportedly thought she should have more money, and she might've been planning a spinoff series with different producers, but then she was fired.
The ratings weakened, but the series survived a few more years anyway. She later starred in "She's the Sheriff" and "Step By Step".
10. The Charmings
Answer: Snow White
This was loosely based on the children's story "Snow White". What if the evil queen cast a spell that accidentally sent Snow White, Prince Charming, their children, the magic mirror, a dwarf, and the queen herself into modern times? That's what happened in "The Charmings".
