President Bartlet wanted to know why so Leo said it made him feel awkward if his staff was to meet in the oval office at that time of night for a meeting. President Bartlet asked him if he liked the way it looked meeting in the basement and Leo simply told him to proceed to the basement.

Sam and Toby were proceeding to the basement and spoke about a recent poll that had been done. Once they got to the entrance of the basement, they spoke the word "Sagittarius" since the place was password protected. When they entered, they noticed that Josh and C.J. were already there.

President Bartlet saw that Joey Lucas, a polling expert, was in the basement with them since she conducted a poll asking a hypothetical question about concealing health issues. As Joey was deaf, a man named Kenny told President Bartlet the results of a poll conducted in Michigan.

He said the poll gave a hypothetical on a politician concealing health issues and then asked the voters if they felt it was okay for a politician to lie about his health. The results were that seventeen percent found it okay while eighty three percent did not think it was okay.

Joey Lucas continued to read off polling results of the poll which she ran and it revealed that an overwhelming majority would be less likely to vote for a politician who had multiple sclerosis. There was a mention of the largest voting group being women over the age of 55 and the majority of women in that group would not vote for a politician with multiple sclerosis.

After hearing these depressing results, President Bartlet asked Joey if there was any good news in the poll results and Joey said she had no good news for him.

Near the beginning of the episode, Sam was in the basement with Toby, Josh and C.J. and mentioned that perhaps it would be okay if President Bartlet gave a ten to fifteen minute address regarding his multiple sclerosis diagnosis. He felt President Bartlet could discuss the diagnosis with the people and apologize to them for concealing it but C.J. said it would be best for him to be with the First Lady. Sam believed that President Bartlet being with Abbey weakened his case.

He said it was that way since it claimed that the Department of Justice had 31 lawyers and staff whereas the tobacco industry had 1,893 lawyers and 2,783 paralegals. Leo continued to read statistics from the report, such as that the Department of Justice spent $8.7 million on outside counsel while the tobacco industry spent $192 million. Leo asked Josh who oversaw the budget and Josh said it was the subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, State and the Judiciary, headed by Senator Ritter. Leo asked Josh to speak to Senator Ritter regarding why they were understaffed when it came to legal representation.

C.J. was in the press room giving a press conference about a crisis in Haiti and took a couple questions before concluding it. She stepped outside and one of the White House staff assistants claimed that she looked tired. She then led C.J. into a room so she could talk to an official about a crisis in Haiti and this was when C.J. called her by her first name, Bonnie. Bonnie was an assistant to Sam and Toby.
