Olin, born on July 30th, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois was credited, per the opening credits, with directing this episode of "The West Wing." Olin wound up directing a total of three episodes for the series. He has also directed episodes of the TV shows, "Alias", "Brothers and Sisters", and "Judging Amy."

Sam decided to go on a talk show called "Capitol Beat" and it was hosted by Mark Gottfried. On the show, Sam squared off with a Republican woman named Ainsley Hayes and they started to debate on the policies of the Republican Party and Sam underestimated her since he felt she only offered good looks.

It was clear to the viewers and to the staff at The White House that Ainsley beat him and Toby was impressed with how sharp and quick Ainsley was.

While the President of Equatorial Kindu was at The White House to discuss the AIDS crisis, Josh and Toby noticed his visit and came up with a plan to help the President of Equatorial Kindu. They decided they would help the President of Equatorial Kindu get the medication necessary to help his people that were afflicted with AIDS. That plan was unsuccessful once news of the coup broke out.

While the President of Equatorial Kindu was at The White House, he did hear of the coup in his home country and how most of his family was either murdered or had to flee. President Bartlet understood the problems he faced and he offered him asylum (protection of a foreigner by another country) in the United States.

However, the President of Equatorial Kindu did not accept his offer of asylum and returned to his home country.

Ainsley Hayes witnessed all of the actions that President Bartlet and his team took to deal with the issues that were happening in Equatorial Kindu. She commented, specifically, that President Bartlet showed bravery and integrity over the situation and her Republican friends badmouthed him and his staff.
