When the opening credits rolled, you could see that Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz were credited for writing this episode of the series. For the first five seasons of "Lost", Kitsis wrote a total of seventeen episodes while Horowitz also wrote seventeen episodes. Horowitz has also wrote episodes for the TV shows, "Life As We Know It", "One Tree Hill", and "Birds of Prey." Kitsis has also produced episodes of "Lost" and of the series, "Felicity."

Nikki and Paulo schemed to kill Howard so they can run off with his fortune.

One day, Paulo made some food for Howard, but what Howard did not realize was that Paulo had poisoned it so he would die. Howard ate the food and he wound up dead and that was when Nikki and Paulo grabbed his diamonds and took off. They decided to escape Australia on Oceanic Flight 815. They ran into Boone and Shannon at the airport in Sydney.

Right after the Oceanic Flight 815 crashed, Nikki and Paulo realized that the diamonds they stole, from Howard, were lost. Nikki and Paulo decided to consult with Dr. Leslie Arzt and Dr. Arzt informed her there was a spider, on the island, that could paralyze humans. Dr. Arzt also gave both Nikki and Paulo a map to a DHARMA initiative station.

In the episode, Kate mentioned that she had found some luggage, from the lake, and it was in this luggage that Paulo recovered the diamonds that he and Nikki stole from Howard. However, he chose not to tell Nikki about his finding the diamonds and he went to the DHARMA initiative station and hid the diamonds in a toilet there.

Paulo had just gotten done hiding the pearls, in a toilet at the DHARMA initiative station, and he overheard both Juliet and Ben talking. After Juliet and Ben got done talking, they accidentally left behind a walkie talkie and Paulo retrieved it. It was later on, in the episode, that Nikki realized that Paulo hid the diamonds and did not tell her he had found them so she planned to trap him.

Nikki confronted Paulo about hiding the diamonds from her, and he denied that he hid them so she tried to have a spider bite him and paralyze him and she then found the diamonds. Paulo apologized for hiding them since he did not want her to end their relationship. Nikki is soon bit by one of the spiders, on the leg, and she starts running towards the beach and she collapses in front of Hurley and Sawyer.

She is pronounced dead shortly after collapsing. However, as she is being buried alive, her eyes start to open so she technically did not die in this episode.
