Charlie was first seen by a computer with President Bartlet and the President was assisting him in filing his tax return. He mentioned they would use the 104-A ez form since he was single and the head of his household. He mentioned that Charlie's adjusted gross income was $35,000 per year.

President Bartlet was in his office when C.J. entered it and told him he would be getting a call real soon from the U.S. Secretary of Energy. He asked her what happened so she said the wire service reported that a vehicle carrying depleted uranium rods crashed in the Seven Devil Mountains in Idaho.

She mentioned the nearest heavily populated city near the crash was El Horn, which had 20,000 residents.

In the middle of the episode, Toby was in a room with several staffers and he referenced a time several months ago when he joked about President Bartlet winning re-election by riding Vice President Hoynes' coattails. Toby stated that the joke was leaked to the press.

Vice President Hoynes spoke about the upcoming election with Sam and he told him a quote from Daniel Webster once Webster had been asked to be the Whig Party's nominee for U.S. Vice President. He said Webster stated, "I do not propose to be buried until I am dead." Hoynes then mentioned how he used to be ever Republican's favorite Democrat.
