Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the episode, what is the first view that we see?

Answer: Sun and Claire on the beach

"Lost... And Found" opens with Sun and Claire washing up on the spacious beach, as rolling waves approach the sand from the ocean. Sun gazes out at the blue horizon and tells Claire that it has been four days. We know she is thinking of Jin and the raft, and the messages in the bottle that were buried in the sand. As Claire tries to reassure Sun that it has been only four days-- and could be weeks-- Sun realizes that something is missing and begins frantically searching for it.
She tells Claire, in horror, "My wedding ring!"
2. In this episode, Sun's and Jin's flashbacks have been uniquely integrated together to form one story- the events which led to their chance meeting. In the first flashback, what does Sun's mother indicate is wrong with the shoes she had chosen to wear for her date?

Answer: The heels were too tall

In her dressing room, Sun is seen preparing for a big occasion. (Notice that she puts a clip with an orange-tinted jewel in her hair.) Her mother is extremely pushy, insisting that a "matchmaker" is necessary in order for Sun to find a husband, according with her father's wishes.

She uses the analogy of being "silver", and stresses a necessity for Sun to be married before becoming "bronze". (She also mentions that Sun spent four years in college previously.) Her mother switches Sun's shoes in case the date is shorter than her. Meanwhile, Jin is seen simultaneously preparing for an important job interview.

His friend Tai Soo is engrossed in a "destiny book", in which he apparently discovers that Love will come to Jin this year. He tells Jin that the Love will look "orange" (which is a bit cynical in that Korean slang once labeled the young and wealthy as "orange people"). Jin's views about love and work (as his ultimate goal, to escape his village roots) reflect his desire to strive for greater success.

As he tells his friend, if Love called, he would tell it to wait.
3. In the bunker, Michael tells Sawyer that the group from the tail section must be deciding what to do with them. Sawyer responds, "I think they're going to _________ us."

Answer: Eat

The three exhausted rafters are silent as the five remaining of the tail section-- Ana Lucia, the leader, Cindy, Bernard and Libby-- stand apart and converse with one another. Michael figures that they are planning what to do with the rafters, and Sawyer replies sarcastically, "I think they're going to eat us". Of course, when Ana-Lucia returns and demands that they stand, it is discovered that the eight survivors will join together for a trek back to where the rest of the survivors are located. (One can only imagine a clash between personalities of Kate and Ana-Lucia, as well as Jack's reaction to Ana-Lucia's return, and Rose's reunion with Bernard when this arrival takes place.)
4. Ana-Lucia directs the group to divide into groups with an assigned task before traveling. The pairing allows the survivors to become acquainted with the new group of strangers. What is the first question Sawyer asks the leader (who gives him a knife)?

Answer: "Did you make this?"

The leader decides to scout the area first, and Ana sends Cindy with him. She, meanwhile, takes Bernard and Jin to fish as Michael and Libby gather fruit.
While Ana-Lucia and Bernard attempt to fish Jin sits passively tossing parts of a sea urchin into the surf. He ignores Ana's shouting and makes comments in Korean about their "ridiculous" way of fishing. Finally, Jin tosses his own net into the waves and pulls out a group of fish (much to the surprise of the others).
Meanwhile, while the three are sorting fish, Sawyer seen dozing against a tree when a large blade appears beside him. (Sawyer is seen drifting more than once in this episode and seems to be getting weaker, an indication that he is becoming ill-- most likely from the bullet wound which had become infected, though hopefully not of the "sickness" which has been spoken of around the island.) The leader gives the weapon "for protection", and Sawyer asks his name. After a long pause, as if he were thinking far into the past, the man replies what sounded something like "Mistaheko" and Sawyer interprets it as "Mr. Eko". Either his heavy accent or that it was in fact a different name could account for this, though it seems clear that he is Nigerian (as is actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje himself).
While Michael and Libby gather fruit, Libby apologizes for throwing Michael and his "friends" in the pit (a term Michael had not previously appointed to his companions, it seems). She speaks of the inland as where They come from, leading Michael to take off on his own after who believes had taken Walt. Upon hearing this, Ana-Lucia panicked and said they were leaving before Michael told Them where they were.
5. It is revealed that Cindy is carrying a working radio, identical to that which was seen on the Nigerian beech craft in the previous episode, "Deus Ex Machina".

Answer: False

Nine words: "Hello, we are the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815..." (Except Cindy is carrying the water, and Libby has the radio.) The identical of which was seen in the drug-smuggling beech craft from Nigeria, which had crashed in the jungle (and was seen in Locke's bizarre vision). Recall that one body was found, dressed as a priest, with a gold tooth. Locke commented that his garments were of high-quality polyester and so the amount of time elapsed between the crash and the discovery could be anywhere from two to ten years.

The other body (if there was one) was not found. One radio was found by Boone inside, however, and he received a static-clouded response to his S.O.S. The crash of the plane ultimately led to his death, and it is unknown whether even he knew what he had heard. All signals seem to indicate (possibly deceivingly) that the mysterious "Mr. Eko" was in fact the other pilot of the Nigerian beech craft; note that it was assumed and not stated that he was in fact on Flight 815 (perhaps more will be revealed if he has flashbacks). Furthermore, it is logically deduced that the response Boone received came from the tail section group via that radio.

While walking with Michael, Libby speaks of having "trust issues" and shows great fear of the jungle inland. This may indicate that this group had been invaded internally in much the same way as Ethan had done. This leaves to the imagination, at this point in time, what may have happened during the "other 48 days".
6. Who helps Sun search for the missing ring?

Answer: Hurley only

Jack offers to help, but Sun politely refuses. Jack tells her the story of when he had lost his ring and had it replaced. It is made certain that Jack is no longer married (as mentioned previously) but the end of Jack's marriage to Sarah remains a mystery thus far.
Locke does not help search for the ring, but offers his advice to stop searching. Kate eventually finds the ring by chance, though she had not searched either. In fact, it was only Hurley who had actually helped Sun do the searching.
Sun's ring is symbolic of her relationship with Jin in that it seems to follow their recent events. Sun lost the ring, just as she presumably lost Jin, and she commented to Jack that she was "so used to it being there" (just like she was with Jin). Now separated, Sun learned to live without the ring as she will undoubtedly establish independence in Jin's absence. And, just when the search had ended (and foreshadowing when Sun gives up on Jin), the two were reunited again.
7. The names of both Hurley's and Sun's dogs began with which letter?

Answer: B

While helping Sun look for the missing ring, Hurley's search led to Vincent. While waiting to "retrieve" the ring, Hurley told Sun the story of a dog named Buster he had as a kid (who invaded his changed drawer and ate $1.35 worth of nickels). Sun told Hurley about Bopo, the Shar-pei puppy given to her by Jin (which was seen in earlier flashbacks) named Bopo, which means "a kiss". In Sun's later flashbacks we see her "matchmaker" date with Jae Lee(coincidentally at the same hotel at which Jin acquired the position as doorman). Each had a very different course of study, which suggested that they were separated to begin with.

It is revealed that Jae wishes to continue to see Sun, but only to please their parents-- his true plan is to marry an American woman he had met. Sun is distraught, but the idea must have stayed with her because she and Jin later planned to do the same... and their flight to America did not end as expected.
8. According to "Mr. Eko", how did Michael cross, ahead of or behind, the "Others"?

Answer: Ahead

After Michael's disappearance, Jin persisted in following after him. Mr. Eko accompanied him as the group moved on. While trekking through the jungle on Michael's trail, Jin discovered a dead body with a stake through him. Mr. Eko recognized him as "Goodwin", possibly one of the unfortunate members of the 23 tail section survivors killed by the "Others" (which provides some insight into their killing methods as well).

This occurs after Jin is attacked by yet another aggressive island boar. Mr. Eko gives Jin an aloe plant for his cuts, and remember Sun had previously used aloe as well (to make a remedy to help Shannon's asthma). One track is encountered left freshly in the mud, and Mr. Eko determines it to be Michael's because "They don't leave tracks".

The mysterious "Others" are seen for the first time by Jin and Mr. Eko, walking silently past in an almost zombie-like manner. Upon careful notice, one may see that it appears to be the same sets of feet passing by-- seen only from the knee down-- several times: a man in gray slacks, a barefooted woman, and a man in tan pants.

Some implication, from a strong sense of group uniformity to the possibility of clones, is made by the similarity and repetition. What could be a child at the end dangles a teddy bear. All that is known for certain is that the "Others" are dangerous, swift, and have a strong interest in children. Mr. Eko tells Jin that Michael had crossed ahead of the "Others" (but they had lost the trail) and while going to find it Michael emerged from the jungle and ordered Jin to go back. Mr. Eko told Michael "you have no idea what these people are capable of" and that they would not be found if they did not want to be. Jin shows his friendship for Michael by reassuring him-- and he seems to be picking up more English-- and Michael agrees to go back with them.
9. Locke tells Sun that he is not "lost" anymore.

Answer: True

Sun was upset and frustrated after a long, unsuccessful search for the ring. After crawling through the garden she had planted, Sun proceeded to tear the plants from the ground. Locke arrived and offered his wisdom (as usual). Relating to his own past, Locke told Sun that he used to be frustrated and angry very often (which we know is true through his flashbacks). When Sun asked if Locke was no longer frustrated, he did not say that he wasn't (remember the hatch?) but simply gazed at the island and stated, "I'm not lost anymore." This undoubtedly indicates something beyond what words say, as well as Locke's response to Sun's wonderment about how he did that. Locke replied, "The same way anything lost gets found... I stopped looking."
Hence, the central concept of "lost and found" is stated. What exactly Locke had stopped looking for is unknown, though it most likely related to his father. For Sun it could relate to the husband she had been waiting for, for her ring, or her independence. Indeed, when the search had ceased and Sun had realized she could live without the ring (the same way she will learn to live without Jin, and possibly accept his fate) the ring was found buried in the sand beside the bottle of messages from the raft.
At the end of the episode, Sun admits to Kate that it is silly to be so upset over a thing (which strikes Kate, who has a strong attachment to the toy plane).
Kate shows mysterious behavior towards the messages in the bottle after Sun digs it up from the sand. She goes through them, clearly looking for something, and tells Sun that she didn't get to say good-bye (to Sawyer), though Sawyer did not write a message. The audience is left to wonder if Kate truly cares about Sawyer and regrets not saying good-bye, or if she had in fact written a message (confessing her crimes?) and became her deceitful self in an attempt to get it back.
10. Did Jin finally encounter the woman in orange?

Answer: Yes

As Jin walked along the riverside (of Seoul), he finally saw the woman in a bright orange dress walk by. Although he stopped to turn she passed without a glance, talking on a cell phone. Jin turned back only to bump right into -- Sun. And the story goes from there.
Orange made several other subtle appearances throughout the episode, foreshadowing the outcome (which of course was already known). While dressing for her date, Sun put a pin with an orange jewel in her hair. At the set-up date, both Sun and Jae had glasses of some orange beverage. Jae also borrowed an orange flower from Jin (when he was the hotel doorman).
The question, of course, is whether or not it was in fact only luck or chance that brought Sun and Jin together. The concept of the "destiny book", like Claire's psychic, Hurley's numbers, and Locke's philosophy that "everything happens for a reason", suggest that the entire plane crash was indeed directed by fate, for a very specific reason.
