1. Near the beginning of the second hour, who was awoken by the alarm in the hatch?

From Quiz 2.23 "Live Together, Die Alone" (Second Hour)

Answer: Desmond Hume

Desmond was seen sleeping in the hatch but he immediately woke up once he heard the alarm and he started calling for someone named Kelvin. The alarm was going off since the seconds to the hatch timer were ticking down so Desmond entered the numbers and reset it. Once he reset it, he heard someone singing.

Answer: Desmond Hume

The episode picked up where the last one did since the survivors saw a white boat out in the ocean and they believed that meant they had been rescued. We heard Sayid say it was possible some of The Others were on the boat. Jack, Sawyer and Sayid all swam out to the boat and saw that Desmond Hume was on it.

From Quiz 2.22 "Three Minutes"

The episode began with a scene that took place thirteen days prior to the present and we saw Michael ask Locke if he could borrow a gun in the gun room of the hatch. Locke wondered why Michael was speaking softly so Michael told him how Jack was asleep and he did not want to wake him. Locke gave Michael a gun and then Michael used the gun to knock John out.

Answer: Mr. Eko

Since Mr. Eko was in the flashbacks for this episode, it was appropriate that he be the first one we see. In his first scene, he was seen using an ax to chop wood. He then sees Ana Lucia, who asks him what he is building and he says it is a church. Since Ana Lucia was killed in the previous episode, this turned out to be a dream of Mr. Eko's.

From Quiz 2.19 "S.O.S."

When we first saw Locke in this episode, he was sitting by the computer doing a drawing as the timer started to tick down in the hatch. He became frustrated at what he was drawing and then the alarm started to go off. Jack was nearby and alerted Locke to it so Locke entered in the numbers and reset the hatch timer.

The episode began with Hurley running down the beach with Libby as she was telling him how good exercise was for people and it got addictive. Hurley started to pant and he told Libby how he could see how it was addictive. Hurley sadly said he needed to drop a few pounds but Libby encouraged him to not be so hard on himself since some people's metabolisms were slower.

Locke was in the flashbacks of this episode and he was seen with his girlfriend in the first flashback. Locke's girlfriend asked him what his father's name was and John replied it was Anthony Cooper. His girlfriend told him his father passed away.

This episode began with a flashback of Sun and Jin as they enjoyed a romantic evening together and discussed having a baby. Jin suggested they go visit a fertility doctor since it had been a year but they were unsuccessful in having a child. Sun informed Jin how there would be no purpose for her to get pregnant when he would be barely home to raise a child. This caused Jin to get irate.

The episode began with Claire attempting to calm down a crying Aaron but her attempts to get him to stop crying were unsuccessful. She yelled at Locke to wake up and he did but John, himself, was also unable to quiet down Aaron. Claire suspected Aaron had a fever so she asked John to go find Jack to have him examine her son.

Sayid was featured in this episode's flashbacks and they went into detail with his years as an officer with the Iraqi Republican Guard. In the first flashback, events from The Gulf War, where Iraq invaded Kuwait, were detailed and Sayid was in them. Several soldiers busted into the place where Sayid and other Iraqi Republican Guard members were and took them into custody. When they asked Sayid who was in charge, Sayid remarked how there was no commanding officer.

The episode opened up with Locke and Jack going to the guns room in the hatch to look at the amount of ammunition and weapons they got to use against The Others. Jack and Locke were pleased to see that all the weapons which were originally there still were and none had been taken. Jack saw many statues of the Virgin Mary and Locke stated how he had to hide them from Charlie since there was heroin in each statue.

This episode was centered on Charlie and he was involved in all of the flashbacks. For the first flashback, Charlie was shown as a young boy and he walked down the steps to open up his Christmas presents. For that Christmas, Charlie got a piano from his mother. Charlie's brother, Liam, was also featured in this flashback.

This episode began with a flashback of Jack, where he and his father went over some x-rays to examine a patient who wants surgery but has a spinal tumor. The patient's name was Angelo and Jack's father told Angelo how he could not be a candidate for surgery. He advised Angelo how he needed a miracle instead of surgery but Angelo actually told Jack's father how he came for Jack's medical opinion, not his father's. Angelo was portrayed by Ronald Guttman, who originated the role of Alexander Cambias, Sr. on the ABC soap opera, "All My Children", in 2003.

Answer: Mr. Eko

We got to learn more about Mr. Eko's life as he was featured in the majority of the flashbacks for this episode. Included in the first flashback was Mr. Eko's childhood where he grew up amongst violence and was forced to kill a young boy. Mr. Eko's life was characterized by constant crime from him and those around him.

Sawyer was still recuperating from his gunshot wound and the very first character we saw with him in this episode was Jack. Sawyer started to wake up and he asked Jack where Kate was. Jack informed him how Kate had watched over him for almost 24 hours and that he sent her out to get some food.

The episode began with Ana Lucia at a shooting range firing off some shots since she once had a job as a police officer. In the next scene, Ana Lucia was seen speaking to her boss at the police department about getting her job back since she had been suspended. Ana Lucia's boss determined she was fit to be reinstated as a police officer and gave her her badge back.

In the opening scene, Shannon was seen with Vincent as she was giving him some food and water. Sayid appeared and asked her to come with him and to let Vincent be by himself for a little while. Sayid took Shannon to a hut which he decorated all just for her. Shannon thanked him for doing what he did.

Hugo was central to this episode and there were flashbacks of him where he won the lottery and decided to quit his job. At the time, he was an employee at a fast food restaurant and his coworker, Johnny, quit as well. Hugo, for a short time, kept his lottery winnings a secret but eventually they came out.

Sawyer and Michael were on a part of the island and they saw Jin running away from a group of people with his hands tied behind his back. Sawyer and Michael were attacked by these people and, along with Jin, put into a large net. They carried Sawyer, Michael, and Jin and trapped them in a hole after dumping them out of the net.

After the man typed in the numbers, he went over to his phonograph player to play a record. The song which played was Mama Cass Elliott's "Make Your Own Kind of Music."

Locke is irritated that Francine would be upset about $30, saying "Francine feels a little too much, you ask me." He then reveals his own situation to the group, saying he never knew who his parents were until they finally met him, after which his father stole his kidney. He gets pretty adamant and yells during his speech.

Kate warned Sawyer, and then shot first. Sawyer fired after her, killing one of their followers. Sawyer wanted to chase after the one who got away, but Jack said it is pointless. Then, Jack forced Michael to come clean about his plan. He did, and they all learned that Michael killed Ana and Libby.

In the previous episode, we discovered what happened in the hatch from Jack's perspective; however, in this episode, we manage to see what happened in the structure from John Locke's perspective. This section of the episode begins immediately after Kate was abducted into the dark tunnel. Realizing that there is indeed something inside the hatch, Locke decides to go into the structure as well. After getting to the bottom, he takes off his shoes (in order to make as less noise as possible) and ventures into the dark alleys. Eventually he finds Kate, who seems to be OK; but, as soon as he is going to give her a hand, he hears a gun sound, turns around and discover a man pointing a shotgun at him (That man being Desmond). Without delay, Desmond starts asking Locke whether he was "him". John obviously doesn't know what he is talking about but, thinking he may handle the situation, decides to responds with an affirmative answer. Kate's presence, however, makes Desmond a little doubtful about Locke's real identity, so he decides to ask him a riddle ("What did one snowman say to the other snowman?"). John couldn't answer the question and, realizing that Locke is not the person he is looking for, Desmond tells him to get rid of the knife he is carrying. After this, he takes both of them to another room, without knowing that the hunter is still holding one of his most beloved weapons. NOTE: In episode 2:01: 'Man of Science, Man of Faith', Jack found a pair of shoes in the underground structure. In this episode, it is revealed that those shoes belonged to John Locke.

The long-expected second season opens with a completely new character going through a daily routine, which involves working out, preparing some food and taking a bath. However, some of his activities are bizarre, like injecting a strange medicine labeled "4 8 15 16 23 42" and typing some unknown code into a computer after hearing an annoying beeping. Things, however, seem to be completely normal for that person...until an explosion is heard. In a matter of seconds, the man puts on a suit, grabs some weaponry and uses a telescope to see what is going on. Thanks to a group of well-positioned mirrors, the man discovers what is happening: two people have opened the door of his underground sanctuary; those two people being Jack Shephard and John Locke, who astonishingly look at the deep vertical tunnel that the hatch is. After this introduction, we can hear the cursed numbers being mentioned by someone while the screen is black. Later on, we discover that person is Hurley, who looks really affected by the opening of what he calls the "burning death hole".

The episode opens at night, with the restless fussing of the ill-stricken baby Aaron. Claire awakens Locke in desperation, explaining Aaron's fever and spotty rash. (Looking closely, blotchy patches can be seen on the baby's arms and front.) Even more frightened following Danielle's unexpected reappearance to the camp, Claire expresses her fears about the dreaded "infection" of which much had been spoken by Danielle and Desmond. Jack assures Claire that the sickness is only a common childhood illness called Roseola. Furthermore, Jack indicates that the notorious "infection" does not exist, adding that the group had survived on the island for two entire months without a sign of sickness. (Recall that two months is the precise amount of time Danielle claimed to have resided on the island before her team got sick.) Roseola is indeed a common viral infection of young children, with symptoms including a high fever and rash (usually after the fever breaks). Croup is an illness which causes a distinctive cough characterized by a "barking" sound. A common type of Seborrheic Dermatitis is better known as "cradle cap" and affects young infants, consisting of patching or scaling on the infant's head. Rotovirus is another common viral infection. Unfortunately, Jack's steady prognosis does not relieve Claire's worries of Aaron having a more serious infection. She begins to question the events which occurred during the time she spent away from the camp after being kidnapped, of which she had no former recollection.

The episode opens with the squealing and hissing of bombs dropping over Iraq during the Gulf War. (The event of Sadaam invading Kuwait is later mentioned.) A panoramic view of the war-torn city shows a chopper flying through the hazy air and a large pillar of black smoke rising up into the sky over the buildings. (As we know, black smoke seems to foretell something ominous.) A group of soldiers obeying their commanding officer Tariq (including Sayid) hurry to scatter and burn file folders as violent explosions rock the earth. One file cabinet falls over in the process and Tariq orders in Arabic that they continue under threat of death. When U.S. soldiers break in to the compound the burning ceases and Sayid, communicating in English, is questioned about the whereabouts of the leader. Note that Sgt. Buccelli refers to Sayid as "Abdul", a nickname given to him by Sawyer in the early days following the crash. Notice that the officer who escorts Sayid to the compound in which Tariq is being held is none other than Kate's father-- or rather, stepfather-- Sam Austin. (Kate had mentioned numerous times hunting with her father, attributing that to her keen tracking skills.)
