Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "B5" and "Voyager" seem like they don't have much in common. However, there is one name that is common to both. In "B5", this name was the Minbari not born of Minbari. On "Voyager," this character was the first to tell Janeway and her crew about "The Void."

Answer: Valen

Valen, really Commander Sinclair, went back in time 1,000 years and was "Minbari, not born of Minbari." In the "Voyager" timeline, Valen had been trapped in the void for five years and raided the ship that stole Voyager's supplies.
2. Both series featured strong female characters. Which of the following was never a main character in either "Voyager" or "B5"?

Answer: Nechayev

Admiral Nechayev was a guest-character on "TNG." Ivanova was the second-in-command of B5, while Torres was the Chief Engineer aboard Voyager. And Delenn was the Minbari Ambassador to Babylon 5.
3. Not forgetting the male characters, who of the following men was an alcoholic?

Answer: Garibaldi

Although Londo and Paris had been seen drinking on a number of occasions, Garibaldi is the one who had trouble controlling the amount he drank. And as for Chakotay, we know he had wine in the Captain's quarters... ;)
4. Both the Babylon 5 station and Voyager could be described as being 'all alone, in the night.' But which series actually used this phrase on a regular basis?

Answer: B5

For at least the first two seasons, the voice over for the main title of "Babylon 5" included this phrase. "All Alone in the Night" was also the title of a season two episode.
5. Both series introduced a new type of ship towards the middle of the series. For "Voyager," it was the Delta Flyer. What type of ship did the Minbari of the Religious Caste present to Sheridan?

Answer: White Star

The White Star was a ship made by the Religious Caste (as opposed to all three castes) and used Vorlon technology. Although the ships were small, they could open their own jumpgate and were highly maneuverable.
6. Both series featured episodes on time-travel. Which of the following was not an episode involving time-travel on *either* "Babylon 5" or "Voyager"?

Answer: Rising Star

Although also a "Babylon 5" episode, "Endgame" was the series finale for "Voyager" which featured Admiral Janeway traveling back in time to save her crew. "War Without End" is where Delenn, Sheridan, Marcus and Sinclair travel to the Babylon 4 station, where they leave Sinclair to travel back in time 1,000 years. And "Relativity" is the episode where Seven travels in time to find out who was trying to destroy Voyager.
7. Meditation was practiced by several characters in both series. Who, of the following, did not meditate on a regular basis?

Answer: Janeway

Although Janeway tells Tuvok in "Repression" that he had taught her to meditate, the only time we see her meditating was when Chakotay showed her how to contact her animal guide. Tuvok and Chakotay were seen meditating, as was Delenn (who tried to teach Sheridan).
8. Self-sacrifice was another theme used heavily in each series. Which is not a correct pairing of someone offering themselves for another and the episode?

Answer: Delenn, "Rumors, Bargains and Lies"

Actually, Delenn offers herself for the Religious Caste (and the Minbari as a whole) in the following episode, "Moments of Transition." In "Deadlock," Janeway offers to destroy her ship so that the crew of a duplicate Voyager can survive the Vidiians. Torres sacrifices her own life so that her mother won't go to Gre'thor, where the dishonored go when they perish. And Sheridan offers his own life for Delenn's when she was being tortured by the Vorlon Inquisitor in "Comes the Inquisitor."
9. Honor is yet another theme common to both series. Which of the following pairs of alien race and an honorable action (shown in an episode) is correct?

Answer: Minbari, lying to save face for another

Minbari will lie to save face for another. Lennier did it when a Londo cheated at poker and there was a fight. For Klingons, it was considered dishonorable for B'Elanna to fake her own death in order to save her mother from Gre'thor. As seen in "False Profits," it was perfectly within the Rules of Acquisition for the Ferengi to interfere and put themselves up as a planet's 'gods' in order to make a profit. And the Centauri believe that marriage is to raise the influence of one's family.

As Londo himself said, "love has nothing to do with marriage."
10. Both series also used humor to lighten the mood of an episode. Which of the following humorous quotes does not match up with who said it?

Answer: Garibaldi: "Shall I flog them as well?"

Tuvok actually said "Shall I flog them as well" after Janeway chewed him out for the crew not following Starfleet Regulations carefully.

Janeway said "That's the problem: I've got a boyfriend who malfunctions" regarding Michael Sullivan, a character from Tom's "Fair Haven" program. Londo's quote is when he's telling Vir how to write reports to be sent back to the royal court. Tuvok's quote is said when some space aliens decided Voyager was the opposite sex of their kind.
