Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Stargate SG-1": Duplicate robots made of SG-1. "Star Trek: Next Generation": Large space object turns out to possess intelligence.

Answer: Tin Man

The robot duplicates from "Stargate's" "Tin Man" reappeared in a later episode, "Double Jeopardy."
Harry Groener, who played Tam Elbran in "Star Trek's" "Tin Man" is better known for his role as the Mayor on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
2. "Stargate SG-1": Strange object from another planet pins Jack to the wall pumping radiation into the walls, as well as Jack. "Star Trek: Voyager": The crew discovers an ancient communications relay that extends to the Alpha Quadrant.

Answer: Message in a Bottle

"Star Trek's" "Message in a Bottle" was the start of a three part episode arc involving the Hirogen. It also had guest star Andy Dick.
"Message in a Bottle" is also a popular song by Sting/The Police.
3. "Stargate SG-1": Apophis has kidnapped Teal'c's son, Rya'c, and brainwashed him. "Star Trek: Next Generation": Dealing with his brainwashing by the Borg, Picard visits his brother in France.

Answer: Family

"Star Trek's" "Family" also has story lines with Worf's parents visiting the Enterprise and Beverly finding a recording from her late husband Jack for their son Wesley.
"Stargate's" "Family" continues the story arc about Teal'c started in "Bloodlines."
4. "Stargate SG-1": A black hole threatens Stargate command. "Star Trek: Next Generation": A visitor, supposedly from the future, visits the Enterprise.

Answer: A Matter of Time

"Stargate's" "Singularity" concerns a black hole also, but they were just viewing it during an eclipse.
"Star Trek's" "Time Squared" involved a second Picard from another time.
"Stargate's" "Window of Opportunity" involves living the same day over and over.
5. "Star Trek: Voyager": Tuvok runs a Starfleet training program for several Maquis crewmembers. "Stargate SG-1": SG-1 participates in an exchange program.

Answer: Learning Curve

It's interesting how some episodes with the same name have similar stories, like this one. Both have to do with schools to teach people new skills because of new people they have encountered and must work with. But other episodes have very different plots, like "Message in a Bottle."
6. "Star Trek: Next Generation": Worf attempts to bond with his son Alexander. "Stargate SG-1": SG-1 contacts a world with two warring religions with different beliefs regarding the Stargate.

Answer: New Ground

A little trick question, as "Star Trek's" "Reunion" is where Worf first meets his son, Alexander and must deal with him.
In "Star Trek's" "New Ground," the part of Alexander was taken over by Brian Bonsall, best known for playing Andrew Keaton on "Family Ties."
7. This is the only two-parter name "Stargate SG-1" and "Star Trek" have in common.

Answer: Redemption, Part 1 and 2

"Stargate" also has a "Birthright", but it is only one part; same with "Star Trek's" "Evolution."
"Stargate's" "Redemption, Part 1 and 2" involves an attack by Anubis from off-world, eventually overthrown by Teal'c, Rya'c and Bra'tac. The other story line is trying to move the Stargate into space before it blows up!
"Star Trek's" "Redemption, Part 1 and 2" involves a civil war in the Klingon Empire (fueled by Romulans) and Worf's reinstatement to the Empire.
8. "Stargate SG-1": SG-1 stumbles in the middle of a war, that appears to include lost SG members. "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine": Worf faces extradition to his homeworld when he destroys a Klingon transport.

Answer: Rules of Engagement

Dion Johnstone, Captain Nelson from "Stargate's" "Rules of Engagement" appears in 7 "Stargate" episodes, always as a different character!
9. "Star Trek: Next Generation": The Enterprise is caught in the middle of a civil war when they encounter Tasha Yar's long-lost younger sister, Ishara. "Stargate SG-1": Doctors fear Daniel is going crazy because of frequent gate travel.

Answer: Legacy

"Star Trek's" "Legacy" was episode 80. As a jab at "Star Trek: Original Series," that only lasted 79 episodes, Picard mentions Canmus II. This planet was featured in the final "Star Trek: Original Series" episode "Turnabout Intruder."
10. Last one is a little different. I give you the episode names, you choose the very similar plotline. "Stargate SG-1": "Beneath the Surface" "Star Trek: Voyager": "Workforce, Part 1 and 2"

Answer: kidnapped and brainwashed, forced to work in a power plant

"Stargate's" "Beneath the Surface" originally aired in the US on September 1, 2000. "Star Trek's" "Workforce, Part 1 and 2" aired on February 8, 2001, five months later. So, was it coincidence, or did "Star Trek" rip off "Stargate"?
