quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Stargate SG-1": The Asgard request help from SG-1 to fight the Replicators. "Star Trek: Voyager": Chakotay is kidnapped and brainwashed to fight in a war.

Answer: Nemesis

I absolutely love "Star Trek's" "Nemesis." The first time I saw it, I could barely understand what was being said, but that's what made it so great.
"Stargate's" "Nemesis" was the 3rd season finale, and was followed up by "Small Victories" in season 4.
"Nemesis" is also the name of the 10th "Star Trek" movie.
2. "Stargate SG-1": Traveling to a planet to observe a black hole, SG-1 discovers everyone is dead from a mysterious illness except for a young girl. "Star Trek: Enterprise": While surveying a black hole in a ternary star system, the stellar phenomenon causes strange effects on the crew.

Answer: Singularity

The young girl Cassandra from "Stargate's" "Singularity" reappears in only two more episodes through season 7. The actress, Katie Stuart, plays Kitty Pryde in X2 and played Meg Murray in 2003's made-for-TV movie "A Wrinkle in Time."
3. "Stargate SG-1": Daniel Jackson is both irradiated at a lethal dosage and framed for sabotage. "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine": A planet is discovered that only exists in our space-time every sixty years or so.

Answer: Meridian

"Star Trek's" "Meridian" marks the introduction of Jeffrey Combs to the "Star Trek" world. He went on to play Brunt, Weyoun and Shran, as well as several others.
"Stargate's" "Meridian" introduces the character of Jonas Quinn (a regular in season 6) and Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) leaves the series (for a year) at this point.
4. "Stargate SG-1": The new Goa'uld Mothership, under the control of Thor's brain, accidentally plummets into Earth's ocean. "Star Trek: Next Generation": The crew discovers a colony of Borg, led by Data's brother Lore.

Answer: Descent

"Star Trek's" "Descent" was a two-parter, ending season 6 and starting season 7. This episode was actually a test episode for Star Trek: Voyager. On this episode, Beverly Crusher was named Captain of the Enterprise, and the producers wanted to see what type of reviews a female captain would get from the fans. The episode was a success and Captain Crusher was the inspiration for Captain Janeway.
5. "Stargate SG-1": Kelowna (Jonas Quinn's planet) begs for help from the SGC, and they learn the effects of working with n'qaudria. "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine": Odo and Dax discover a planet where the inhabitants are disappearing.

Answer: Shadowplay

The episode name is not exactly the same. On "Stargate," the episode title is two words, "Shadow Play."
6. "Stargate SG-1": Tok'ra and Jaffa refugees must learn to work together while being hunted by an assassin. "Star Trek: Next Generation": Picard is secretly abducted and switched with an alien double (not an entirely convincing one).

Answer: Allegiance

"Star Trek's" "Allegiance" features the only Bolian ever seen with hair.
7. "Stargate SG-1": SG-1 encounters a highly advanced form of replicator when they attempt to fix the Asgard's trap. "Star Trek: Next Generation": A mysterious hyper-ageing sickness kills the crew of a Federation cargo ship, and Dr. Pulaski must race against time to find a cure.

Answer: Unnatural Selection

"Stargate's" "Unnatural Selection" was part 2, following "Prometheus" where the experimental spaceship is stolen and SG-1 is stranded in deep space."
The worst part about "Star Trek's" "Unnatural Selection" is that Pulaski didn't die! They had a perfect excuse to kill her off! Why would they save her? She was so annoying!
8. "Stargate SG-1": Jack and Mayborne are stranded on a planet thought to once be a colony of the Furlings. "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine": Earth has been placed under martial law and security troops have been deployed in anticipation of a Dominion invasion as the search for the changeling infiltrator continues.

Answer: Paradise Lost

"Star Trek's" "Paradise Lost" is the second half of a two-parter started with "Homefront."
The Furlings mentioned in "Stargate's" "Paradise Lost" are one of the four great races spoken of by the Asgard in "The Fifth Race."
9. "Stargate SG-1": SG-1 discovers a crashed prison ship, but are unsure which of two warring groups are the prisoners and which are the guards. "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine": Lwaxana Troi pays a visit to Deep Space Nine, and soon falls for Odo. Then, the station's computer starts behaving like an attention-hungry child.

Answer: Forsaken

"Stargate's" "Forsaken" stars Martin Cummins, well known for his portrayal of Ames White, Transgenic-Hunter on "Dark Angel."
The scene in "Star Trek's" "Forsaken" when the crew are attempting to shutdown the computer in Ops is an homage to "2001: A Space Odyssey" where Bowman dismantles Hal in the same fashion.
10. Last one is a little different. I give you the episode names, you choose the similar plotline. "Stargate SG-1": "Window of Opportunity" "Star Trek: Next Generation": "Cause and Effect"

Answer: caught in time loop, repeating the day

"Stargate's" "Window of Opportunity" involves Jack and Teal'c the only ones realizing the day is repeating itself. To break the loop, they must learn Latin and translate Ancient runes.
In "Star Trek's" "Cause and Effect," the Enterprise is caught in a time warp in which they are repeatedly destroyed while colliding with another starship. (THREE!)
Other shows with similar episodes are "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" with "Life Serial" and "X-Files" with "Monday." Of course, the ultimate day-repeating movie is "Groundhog Day" starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell.
