The previous episode, "A Land Without Magic", ended with magic coming to Storybrooke in the form of a purple cloud. This episode, "Broken", began with the purple cloud clearing out. The same people were in both scenes, so the purple cloud did its job quickly. The time on the clock at the end of the previous episode was 8:15. The end of the first scene of "Broken" was 8:20.

Answer: Aurora

Aurora made her first appearance in this episode. At the start, she was still under the sleeping curse Maleficent had placed on her. Phillip and Mulan were heading to the palace where Aurora slept and Phillip awoke her with true love's kiss. After the kiss, a wraith appeared, and the three of them began a new mission: to destroy the wraith.

Answer: There was not a flashback.

All episodes of the first season had a flashback featuring at least one character. However, in this episode, there was not a single flashback. Throughout most of the episode, scenes shifted between Storybrooke and the Enchanted Forest, which led to the impression that the Enchanted Forest scenes were flashbacks.

However, the final scene of the episode revealed that it was taking place at the same time as those in Storybrooke.

Answer: Dr. Whale

Some residents of Storybrooke were angry enough at Regina that they wanted to suffer. Dr. Whale, the leader of the mob, got those people into a frenzy. The mob headed towards Regina's house and intended for her to suffer. They were settled down by Emma and Mary Margaret (who got word from Archie Hopper that a mob had headed over to Regina's house).

Answer: Put her in jail.

The mob wanted Regina to suffer as they had suffered, and then they would kill her. However, Emma and Mary Margaret intervened and convinced them to simply put Regina in jail. Regina stayed there until her soul was nearly consumed by a wraith. Afterwards, she helped stop the wraith.

Answer: She locked Belle away.

In the previous episode, Jefferson released Belle from the asylum and told her to find Mr. Gold and tell her that Regina locked her up. Belle did this and in retaliation, Mr. Gold marked Regina which allowed the wraith to suck her soul. Prior to this, Mr. Gold believed that Belle was dead, since that was what Regina had told him.

Answer: Phillip

When the wraith arrived in the Enchanted Forest, it appeared that they were all spared from the mark. However, Phillip ended up getting marked when he came into contact with the wraith. Since Aurora, Mulan, and Phillip weren't sure of how to destroy the wraith, Phillip decided to sacrifice himself to stop the wraith.

Answer: Jefferson's hat

The wraith was a dead creature, and so it couldn't be killed, only destroyed. Regina proposed sending it oblivion. To do that, she needed Jefferson's hat, since it could travel between magical realms. (Since Mr. Gold returned magic to Storybrooke, it counted as a magical realm.) Regina, Emma, Mary Margaret, and David would start a fire, then after having Regina activate Jefferson's hat, it would suck the wraith into another realm.

Answer: Mary Margaret

Emma got too close to the wraith, and it grabbed Emma's leg and pulled her into Jefferson's hat. Emma's parents, Mary Margaret and David, did not want to leave Emma, so they tried to follow Emma into Jefferson's hat. Mary Margaret was successful; however, David was not.

Answer: Enchanted Forest

The intention was for the wraith to end up in oblivion, where it could no longer hurt anyone. However, the wraith actually ended up in the Enchanted Forest, along with Emma and Mary Margaret. It was there that it marked Phillip, and it was there that Phillip allowed himself to die in order to stop the wraith. Once that happened, the wraith left everyone alone.
