In this episode, we meet Sir Lancelot. He was a friend of Snow White and Prince Charming in the past and it is revealed that Lancelot performed a marriage ceremony for them so the prince's mother could see him marry before she died.

We discover near the end of the episode that Lancelot has been dead for a while and that Cora, Regina's mother, had been masquerading as him the whole time!

She left him to join the pirate crew of Killian Jones. Later, thanks to Rumplestiltskin, Jones became known as Captain Hook. When Milah told Rumple that she'd never loves him, he ripped out her heart and then cut off Jones' hand.

Dr. Whale is revealed to be Dr. Victor Frankenstein. In this episode, we travel to yet another world that is completely black and white. In an attempt to save his dead brother, Dr. Frankenstein uses a magic heart from Regina's collection. It brings his brother back, but not as himself.

They need a gold compass to guide them back to Storybrooke. They discover that the compass is located at the top of the beanstalk where Captain Hook is tied up. Hook insists on climbing up the stalk with Emma to retrieve the compass.

Anton is the last living giant. He lives on the beanstalk and guards the gold compass and the last magic bean. We find out later that his family called him "Tiny".

Regina hires Hook to go to Wonderland and kill her mother by ripping her heart out. It is revealed that the Queen of Hearts is none other than Cora, Regina's mother. When Hook tries to rip out her heart, he discovers that her heart isn't where it should be. She says to him, "I'm the Queen of Hearts. Do you really think I'd be so careless as to keep my heart where everyone else does?"

When Archie is found dead in his office, Emma uses her new found magic to see that Regina is responsible. It is later discovered that Archie isn't dead and that Regina didn't kill anyone. Her mother Cora disguised herself as Regina and killed someone she disguised as Archie.

Hook and Cora were keeping Archie on board Hook's ship so that the town would turn against Regina even more. Cora wanted Regina to be broken so she would need her.

Rumpelstiltskin pours the potion on the scarf that belonged to his son. He wants to cross the town line to go in search of Baelfire. As he crosses the town line, he turns to kiss Belle goodbye and Hook shoots her causing her to go over the line! Belle completely loses her memory and Rumpelstiltskin aims a fireball at Hook.

As he lights up, a strange car comes into view. The driver hits Hook and then is knocked unconscious.

He wants Emma to go to Manhattan with him. Emma grew up in this world so she knows much more about it than Rumple. He also knows that she is adept at finding people. When Rumple asks this favor, he finally reveals to Emma, David, and Mary Margaret that he has a son and that he is going to find him.

When they arrive in Manhattan, they find Baelfire easily enough, but Emma discovers a blast from the past.
