quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Willow and Buffy's room number at Stevenson hall?

Answer: 214

This can be seen several times throughout the season. Buffy first lived with Kathy in this room, but she turned out to be a demon.

Interesting to note: In season 5 Buffy also briefly lives in room 214, but since that room looks completely different we can assume it's in a different building.
2. What number is the room at the Initiative where Maggie Walsh created Adam?

Answer: 314

This is mentioned and seen many times throughout the season, the first time in "A New Man".
3. "The Freshman": What year did Psi Theta fraternity close, and students started disappearing?

Answer: 1982

Xander: "Hey, how far back do the disappearances go?"
Buffy: "They weren't too common before '82."
Xander: "Magic number! Check this out."
Buffy: "'Psi Theta loses it's charter. Building to be closed for renovation.'"
Xander: "1982. Look at this. 'Former Psi Theta fraternity house lies dormant while zoning issues drag on before the city council.' We have a winner."
Buffy: "Looks pretty cherry."
Xander: "You up for a little reconnaissance?"
Buffy: "You mean where we all sculpt and paint and stuff?"
Xander: "No, that was the renaissance."
Buffy: "Oh. I've had a really long week. Let's go look at the house."
4. "Living Conditions": How many meals did Parker say you could get in one go if you used your dining hall card right?

Answer: 3

Parker: "Freshman, huh?"
Buffy: "Is it that obvious?"
Parker: "There are signs. For instance, people who've been around for a while know how to use their dining hall card."
Buffy: "It's not for food?"
Parker: "Work it right and you can get 3 meals worth, which equals fewer punch cards used annually."
Buffy: "And more cash from dad which you get to keep for yourself."

This is the first time Buffy met Parker, who then slept with her and dumped her in the following episode.
5. "The Harsh Light Of Day": When, according to Giles, did vampires try to locate the Gem of Amara, and concluded it never existed?

Answer: the 10th century

Giles : "There was a great deal of vampiric interest in locating it during the... oh, the 10th century. Questing vampires combed the earth, but no one ever found anything... It was concluded that it never existed."

Spike, however, finds the Gem of Amara and uses it to attack Buffy during the day.
6. "Fear Itself": How old was Buffy when she last dressed as Little Red Riding Hood for Halloween?

Answer: 12

Joyce: "I'm thinking about the little girl who wore that. What is it? Five? Six years ago."
Buffy: "Yeah, when Little Red Riding Hood was the cutting edge in costumes."
Joyce: "Your father loved to take you out."
Buffy: "He was such a pain! 12 years old and I can't go trick-or-treating by myself?"
Joyce: "He just wanted to keep you safe."
Buffy: "No, he wanted the candy. I was just the beard."
Joyce: "Oh, that's not true actually. The candy was for me."
7. "Beer Bad": Before the guys who drank the cursed beer turned into cavemen, what was their bill at the pub?

Answer: $38

Xander: "And you know I've always had a problem calculating the tip and you guys being so dapper and brain, maybe you can help me out. Okay great. See if your bill comes to $38 and people tip what, approximately 30%? That makes your tip what?"

Because the guys were very close to becoming cavemen at this point, they couldn't help Xander figure this out.
8. "Wild At Heart": According to Xander, how many minutes a year is a guy too preoccupied to have sex?

Answer: 7

Willow: "What does it mean when a girl wants to... You know."
Xander: "If you're doin' it, I think you should be able to say it."
Willow: "Make love."
Xander: "Wild monkey love or tender Sarah Mclachlan love?"
Willow: "Any kind. But what if the girl wants to and the guy doesn't? That's a bad sign, right?"
Xander: "Could be. Or the girl caught the guy in one of the 7 annual minutes he's legitimately too preoccupied to do it."
Willow: "Well, say the girl's been noticing..."
Xander: "Will, I've deciphered your ingenious code."

Willow asked Xander for advice when she was worried that something was going on between Oz and Veruca.
9. "The Initiative": In this episode, what was the room temperature at Stevenson hall?

Answer: 62.3 degrees

This can be seen when Graham is measuring the temperature of all the people in the dorm. This is Spike's temperature, since he's a vampire.
10. "Pangs": In what year did the earthquake occur that buried the mission Xander fell into?

Answer: 1812

Buffy: "A lost mission. I mean, a hairbrush I can understand. And by the way, I will find that and get that back to you. But how do you lose a mission?"
Willow: "Huge earthquake in 1812. Everyone just assumed the mission was leveled. Instead, they built right over it. It's like what happened in the thirties with that church the master was in. Doesn't it make you wonder what else is there, like, right under our feet?"
Buffy: "Mostly, I've just found sewers full of demons."
11. "Something Blue": How much of her guilt did Willow say baking lifted?

Answer: 30%

Willow: "Eat a cookie; ease my pain?"
Buffy: "Mm. Better?"
Willow: "Well, baking lifts about 30% of my guilt, but only 7% of my inner turmoil. Guess that'll just take awhile."
Buffy: "It'll happen."
Spike: "Don't I get a cookie?"
Buffy: "No."
Spike: "Well, I gotta have something. I still have Buffy taste in my mouth."
Buffy: "You're a pig, Spike."
Spike: "Yeah... well I'm not the one who wanted, "Wind Beneath My Wings" for the first dance."
Buffy: "That was the spell."

Because of Willow's spell Buffy and Spike got engaged, Xander became a demon magnet, Giles went blind, and Amy was turned into a human for a few seconds before she became a rat again.
12. "Hush": What room at Stevenson Hall did the guy the Gentlemen killed live in?

Answer: 118

This could be seen when they knocked on the door, and he opened it for them. The next night, understandably, people were afraid to open their doors when Tara knocked trying to get away from the Gentlemen.
13. "Hush": What numbers can be seen on Xander's sweater during the exposition scene and later in Giles' apartment, when Xander beats up Spike?

Answer: double zero

This made Anya realise Xander did care for her, when before she hadn't been sure.
14. "Doomed": The Word of Valios was a talisman from which century?

Answer: 15th

This can be seen when Giles finds the information on the talisman in a book, and realises he has it at his house.
15. "A New Man": How many vampires did Riley say he'd killed or captured himself?

Answer: 11

Walsh: "I think you'll find the results of our operation most impressive. Agent Finn here, alone, has killed or captured... how many is it?"
Riley: "17. 11 vampires, 6 demons."

What I really like in this scene is how hard Buffy is trying to sound impressed by this. Considering how many vampires and demons she's killed that must be very hard.
16. "The I In Team": Fill in this sentence, said by Professor Walsh to Buffy after she's fought the Initiative soldiers: "It took the patrol team __ minutes to track you and you neutralized them in __ seconds."

Answer: 42, 28

The Initiative and Maggie Walsh were testing Buffy's fighting skills before she became a member of the team.
17. "Goodbye Iowa": According to Angelman, what tunnel did the Polgara demon escape through?

Answer: 72

Riley: "This has to be the work of the Polgara demon we captured last week."
Angelman: "Probably. It looks like last night the Polgara escaped through tunnel 72."

It turns out it was not the Polgara demon, but Adam, the Initiative's own creation.
18. "This Year's Girl": How long has Faith been in a coma when she wakes up in this episode?

Answer: 8 months

Buffy: "I've been looking for you."
Faith: "I've been standing still for 8 months, B. How hard did you look?"
Buffy: "Are you alright?"
Faith: "5-by-5. It's that thing about a coma. Wake up all rested and rejuvenated. And ready for payback."

Faith: "Now, normally I wouldn't be going for something this dark. But I read in some magazine that 8 months in a coma will damage a girl's natural skin tone."
19. "Who Are You": How long did Faith, in Buffy's body, joke that Xander and Anya's romantic evening would last?

Answer: 7 minutes

Xander: "We kind of have a romantic evening planned."
Anya: "We were gonna light a bunch of candles and have sex near them."
Faith: "Well, we certainly don't want to cut into that 7 minutes."
Anya: "Hey."
Xander: "I believe that's my hey. Hey!"
20. "Superstar": How many moves did it take Jonathan to win the chess game against Giles?

Answer: 4

Jonathan: "Mate in 4. You almost got me that time Rupert."

In this episode, Jonathan had cast a spell that made him good at practically everything.
21. "Where The Wild Things Are": How old was Willow when she had a "bad birthday party pony thing"?

Answer: 4

Willow: "Horses, like big... tall... teeth that can take your arm off horses?"
Tara: "Well, sure. I learned to ride when I was a kid. It's fun. And, by the way, most horses don't like arm very much."
Willow: "I had a bad birthday party pony thing when I was 4. I look at horses and I see really big ponies."
22. "New Moon Rising": In what sector did Buffy and Riley kill the demon that interrupted their talk about Oz and Willow?

Answer: 72

Riley: "Man, that was record time."
Buffy: "It's no fun when they're that easy."
Riley: "Speak for yourself. Base, this is Agent Finn. We've an HST down. Please send a retrieval team to sector 72."

During this talk Riley finds out Oz is a werewolf, and is disturbed by this.
23. "The Yoko Factor": How many Initiative soldiers did Riley say Angel had attacked?

Answer: 4

Angel: "Put that gun down."
Riley: "It's pretty much all I got left, so I'm thinking not. He attacked 4 of my men, Buffy. I think he's up to his old tricks."

Angel and Riley did not have the most pleasant first meeting.
24. "Primeval": How many Initiative soldiers were killed during the final battle?

Answer: 40%

According to one of the government people talking at the end of the episode:
"Once the prototype took control of the complex, our soldiers suffered a 40% casualty rate. It is only through the actions of a deserter and a group of civilian insurrectionists that our losses were not total. I trust the irony of that is not lost on any of us."
25. "Restless": The cheese man appeared in everyone's dream. How many cheese slices did he have in each dream?

Answer: Willow's: 11, Xander's: 8, Giles': 3, Buffy's: 2

I counted. It seems I have too much free time, or very strange priorities in any case. The cheese man was my favourite character in this episode.
