Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Responding to a distress call from a colony, the Enterprise landing party beams down to a planet to investigate. What do they find upon beaming down?

Answer: There is no trace that a colony ever existed.

Having fallen once again for the old distress call scam, Kirk and crew beam down to the planet surface only to find there is no colony there. Scans of the area show no trace a colony ever existed. To make matters worse, a Klingon ship shows up and a contingent led by Commander Kang beams down to confront Kirk. Things start to get tense real fast.
2. Klingons beam down and get the drop on the landing party. Why did the Klingons arrive at the same planet as the Enterprise?

Answer: The Klingons also received a distress call.

Kang greats Kirk with a nice backhand across the Captain's face. He says the Klingons are here because they received a distress call. Their ship has been attacked and many Klingons aboard are dead. He blames Kirk for the attack on his ship and says it is an act of war.
3. Why does Chekov lash out at the Klingons?

Answer: He says the Klingons killed his brother.

Unbeknownst to everyone, an alien entity is hovering nearby enjoying all the hostile emotions building between the two landing parties. Suddenly, Chekov blurts out that the Klingons killed his brother Piotr. The Klingons beat him down for his outburst and subject him to a hand-held Klingon agonizer device.
4. Commander Kang takes the landing party hostage and orders Captain Kirk to surrender the Enterprise. How does Kirk escape from Kang?

Answer: Mr. Spock suspends the Klingons in the transporter buffer.

At gunpoint, Kirk calls the Enterprise to beam up both landing parties but manages to sneak a secret signal to Mr. Spock, alerting him of their situation. Spock pulls a little transporter magic by having the Enterprise members materialize first, keeping the Klingons suspended until a security detail can arrive. Once the Klingons materialize, they are promptly placed under arrest.
5. Kang's wife Mara is brought aboard the Enterprise. She also serves as an officer on the Klingon vessel. What is her title?

Answer: Science Officer

With the Klingon ship disabled and spewing radiation, Kirk brings the remaining Klingon crew aboard the Enterprise which includes Kang's wife Mara. Kang introduces her as his Science Officer. Based on rumors she has heard, Mara fears they will be tortured by the Federation and placed into a death camp.

The always gracious Captain Kirk moves the Klingons to a briefing room instead of the brig until he can figure out what is going on.
6. When the Enterprise's systems begin to go haywire, what happens to the majority of its crew?

Answer: They become trapped in the lower decks behind emergency bulk heads.

Back on the bridge, things start going crazy all at once. Communication systems go down and the engines suddenly jump to warp 9 all by themselves. Lt. Uhura gets a report that almost 400 crew members have become trapped in the lower decks behind emergency bulk heads.
7. All of the weapons in the Enterprise armory change into what type of crude weaponry?

Answer: Swords, knives and axes

Blaming Kang for everything that is going wrong aboard the ship, Kirk rushes to confront him in the briefing room. Kirk lands a nice right hook onto Kang's jaw, returning the favor. Suddenly, swords and knives appear in everyone's hands and a battle breaks out. Scotty finds all the weapons in the ship's armory have changed into swords, knives and axes. With a big smile on his face, he helps himself to a nice fancy-looking sword.
8. Who informs Captain Kirk that Chekov is an only child?

Answer: Lt. Sulu

Back on the bridge, Kirk sends Sulu off to command Engineering and Auxiliary Control. Chekov still has it out for the Klingons and bolts off the bridge, all the while yelling about his dead brother Piotr. Perplexed, Sulu asks Kirk who Piotr is. When Kirk replies the Klingons murdered Chekov's brother, Sulu tells him Chekov is an only child.

He has no brother. What the heck is going on? Spock makes a startling discovery; there are more life readings aboard the ship than can be accounted for between all of the crew and the Klingons.
9. In the midst of the crisis, Captain Kirk makes an unusual log entry introduction. How does he begin his log entry?

Answer: "Captain's Log: Stardate Armageddon"

Chekov captures Mara outside of engineering, but instead of killing her, he tries to make out with her. Kirk interrupts and knocks Chekov out. He then brings both Chekov and Mara to sickbay where Bones informs him that the wounded crew members are healing at an accelerated rate.

It seems no one can die. Upon leaving sickbay, Kirk finally encounters the alien entity that has staged this conflict with the Klingons. It has been feeding on all the violent emotions. With the dilithium crystals burning out, it seems the Enterprise is doomed to drift in space with the crew battling the Klingons for eternity.

This revelation leads Kirk to make his unusual log entry.
10. The Klingons have captured the Engineering deck. How does Kirk sneak past Klingon forces to get to Kang inside the engine room?

Answer: He transports in using intra-ship beaming.

Having realized the only way to defeat the alien entity is to stop all hostility aboard the ship, Kirk must convince Kang to agree to a truce. He threatens to kill Mara to get Kang to talk peace, but Kang calls his bluff saying Mara understands she is a victim of war.

The only way to get to Kang is to use another nifty transporter trick. Once inside the engine room, Mara helps Kirk to convince Kang that there is another entity in control. They all have a good laugh which causes the entity to weaken and leave the ship.
