Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 2, teams flew to Ghana and either transported coffins or did which of these tasks for their Detour?

Answer: Set up TV antennas

In Accra, Ghana, teams needed to find Peace Motor Spare Parts in the Teshie region of the city to collect their Detour. In this task, teams either chose 'Tune In' or 'Check Out'. In 'Tune In', teams needed to use materials provided to place a TV antenna on a nearby marked house.

Then, when they fed the wires to the TV and connected to a signal to the satisfaction of the homeowner, they would receive their clue. In 'Check Out', teams needed to go to a nearby woodshop and carry a uniquely-shaped coffin through the city streets to a showroom known as 'Hello, Coffin!'. Brook and Claire, Chad and Stephanie, Kevin and Michael, Nick and Vicki, Gary and Mallory, and Nat and Kat finished 'Tune In' while Katie and Rachel, Jill and Thomas, Jonathan and Connor, Nat and Kat, and Andie and Jenna did 'Check Out'.

After this, teams took taxis to the Pit Stop.
2. In Leg 3, teams chose either 'Language Arts' or what other Detour option involving wheel rims in Ghana?

Answer: Bicycle Parts

In Ghana, teams progressed to the rural area of Dodowa and completed their Detour at the Asebi D/A Primary School. For this one, only Connor and Jonathan completed 'Language Arts' in which they needed to use a story and a decoder to translate phrases into local symbols.

When they found the eight necessary symbols in order on the wall they would be able to receive their clue. In 'Bicycle Parts' (completed by the other eight teams) they needed to use a stick to push a bicycle wheel rim across a field and back like the local schoolchildren.

After the Detour, teams ran to their Pit Stop at a nearby house.
3. In Sweden in Leg 4, which team utilized the Express Pass during the Detour?

Answer: Jill and Thomas

In Leg 4, teams flew to Kiruna in Northern Sweden to complete their tasks. In the small town of Riksgränsen, teams found a Detour outside the Vassijaure Train Station and chose either 'Sleds' or 'Beds'. In 'Sleds', teams took a chairlift up a mountain, then used TechSleds to go down the mountain trail. If they reached the finish in under 1:58, they would collect their clue. Nat and Kat, Brook and Claire, Gary and Mallory, and Nick and Vicki finished this.

In 'Beds', teams created a traditional dwelling known as a goathi to the specifications of a completed exemplar. Michael and Kevin, Chad and Stephanie, Katie and Rachel, and Connor and Jonathan finished this. Jill and Thomas went to complete 'Beds' but, fearing that they would arrive last, decided to use the Express Pass to skip the task and head straight to the Pit Stop (where they arrived in fifth).
4. For the Detour task in Leg 5 (Norway), how many teams completed 'Bike'?

Answer: Three

In Leg 5, teams drove through Northern Norway and completed the Detour task near Narvik. In an open field in Harvika, teams chose either 'Boat' or 'Bike'. In 'Boat', they needed to hop into a boat and direct its driver, using a map, to a specific spot, then climb up steep rock and a path to deliver two fish and a chainsaw to claim their clue. Michael and Kevin, Brook and Claire, Chad and Stephanie, and Katie and Rachel finished this task. Jill and Thomas, Gary and Mallory, and Nick and Vicki all finished 'Bike' in which they rode mountain bikes through some tough terrain to find a signboard containing bike lock combinations. Returning to the start they could unlock their proper combination to receive their clue. Nat and Kat didn't complete the Detour having claimed the race's only Fast Forward.

After the Detour, teams drove to the Pit Stop at the Ankenes Marina.
5. In Leg 6 in Russia, which team completed the 'Classical Music' Detour task?

Answer: Nick and Vicki

In Saint Petersburg, teams found a Detour at the Rostral Columns on Vasilievsky Island. The first choice, 'Classical Music', was only completed by Nick and Vicki and Chad and Stephanie; they had to identify three Russian songs on gramophones and identify them being played in a room full of pianists. Once they properly picked the correct songs, in order, they received their clue on a vinyl record.

In 'Classical Cinema', the rest of the teams went to a film studio and searched for one film strip in thousands depicting a scene from a Russian movie playing in the same room. Once they picked a correct strip they would receive their clue on a film canister.

After this task, teams needed to head to Palace Square.
6. In Leg 7 in Russia, did all seven teams complete the 'Circus Clown' Detour task?

Answer: No

Arriving at Antovo Circus in Saint Petersburg, Russia, teams either completed 'Circus Clown' or 'Circus Band'. In 'Circus Clown', teams needed to head into the big top and perform a plate spinning trick. When they mastered the trick and placed ten spinning plates onto a platform without letting any fall, they would receive their clue. Brook and Claire, Nick and Vicki, Chad and Stephanie, Michael and Kevin, and Jill and Thomas did this. Gary and Mallory and Nat and Kat did 'Circus Band' in which they needed to learn how to play three parts of a Russian folk song on an accordion.

After this task, teams continued to the Bank Bridge.
7. In Leg 8, all six teams completed which Omani Detour task?

Answer: 'Water Table'

In Oman, teams found a Detour clue waiting on top of a stack of books in the town of Nizwa. Here, everyone chose 'Water Table', a task in which they commandeered a water tanker truck, filled it, then delivered it to a home in the nearby town. Once teams hooked the water tanker up to the house they would receive their next clue and continue on to the Muttrah Souk. If they hadn't done this task, teams would've needed to hurry to a nearby market to purchase twenty-five chickens and the ingredients necessary for a local soup.

Then, after the soup was prepared, they needed to deliver it to a wedding party to collect a clue.
8. In Leg 9, two teams were U-Turned during a Double U-Turn. One was Brook and Claire. Who was the other?

Answer: Chad and Stephanie

In Leg 9, teams flew to the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh, where they inevitably found their way to the river docks in this over-populated city. Here was the first Double U-Turn ever featured on the race. As a result, Brook and Claire were U-Turned by Jill and Thomas while Chad and Stephanie were U-Turned by Nat and Kat. Both taems had to go back and complete 'Balanced Bricks' in which they had to transport one hundred bricks from a river to a brickyard to get their clue. Only Jill and Thomas originally did this task. Everyone else did 'Balanced Meal' in which they needed to deliver thirty canisters of food to a barge on the water and return with ten.
9. In Leg 10, which team didn't complete the Detour task in Hong Kong?

Answer: Nick and Vicki

In Hong Kong, teams had a choice of 'Ding-Ding' and 'Sampan', the latter of which was the only one completed by any teams. In 'Ding-Ding', teams needed to ride tramcars through Hong Kong's streets looking for three signs mentioning their next destination, the Pit Stop at Statue Square.

Instead, all four teams finished 'Sampan' in which they needed to deliver caged birds to specific boats in Aberdeen Harbour (at night). Nick and Vicki attempted to complete 'Sampan', but because Nick didn't want to finish the task, they took a six hour penalty to be held during their stay at the Pit Stop.
10. Which Detour task was completed by all participating teams in South Korea in Leg 11?

Answer: 'Full Throttle'

In Leg 11, teams found a Detour clue waiting in the center of the Seoul World Cup Stadium soccer field. Here, teams chose either 'Full Throttle' or 'Full Bottle'. All the teams finished 'Full Throttle' in which they needed to don speed skating outfits and perform a twenty-four lap relay in speed skates to get their clue.

In 'Full Bottle', teams would've needed to don delivery uniforms and travel through the city to deliver six bottles of ginseng tonic to a wellness center before drinking one and receiving their next clue.
