Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What did Jeanie offer to help her ex-husband with at the beginning of this episode?

Answer: Getting an interview at County General Hospital for an AIDS drugs study

Al's doctors were adding to his AIDS medication as he had built up a resistance to some of them, prompting Jeanie to suggest "nucleoside analogues". Incidentally, a trial study for these drugs was taking place at County General Hospital, but it only accepted twenty individuals. Jeanie offered to help her ex-husband by talking to some of the doctors, claiming that she could at least get Al an interview for the study.
2. Why did Chris Law say that his mother was not going to pay the medical bill for his deceased brother, Kenny?

Answer: The hospital was responsible for his death

When Chris Law bumped into Mark Greene in the car park, he informed Mark that the $19,000 bill from the hospital was going to remain unpaid. Law had told his mother that the bill was a mistake, because "you don't get bills from people who kill your child", and "lose your son's body between the morgue and a coroner so that" the funeral has to be postponed for two days.

Insistent that his mother was not going to be forced to pay a penny, Law demanded that Mark informed the hospital that no further correspondence was to be sent, unless it was an apology. Ominously, Law also suggested that if his mother received another bill, he would respond with violence.
3. What type of "literature" was being passed around the ER?

Answer: A trashy novel

At the beginning of the episode a trashy novel was found on the ER's front desk. On closer inspection it soon became clear that its characters were based on the ER staff themselves. However the name of the person who wrote it was never revealed. Nevertheless, this did not stop the staff from speculating about the identity of the author.
4. Which member of staff thought that Carol Hathaway could be attracted to him?

Answer: Jerry Markovic

When Jerry and Mark were in the bathroom, Jerry asked if Carol Hathaway was interested in him. Believing Carol to be the author of the ER's trashy novel, Jerry asked Mark if he had "ever picked up on anything", as there were "some parts about" him which were "pretty flattering".
5. Which member of staff was violently attacked in this episode?

Answer: Mark Greene

Following his conversation with Jerry in the bathroom, Mark was violently beaten by an unknown assailant, who left him bleeding on the floor. He was found a little while later by Doug Ross, and promptly rushed to the trauma room, where he was stabilised and eventually regained consciousness.
6. Dr. Anna Del Amico joined County General Hospital in this episode.

Answer: True

Midway through this episode, Dr. Anna Del Amico appeared, as "an ER Paediatric
fellow specializing in Emergency Medicine". When Mark was found bleeding on the bathroom floor, she helped Doug stabilise him. Later on, she also took care of one of Doug's patients so that he could stay with Mark.
7. Why was Carla Reece admitted to the hospital?

Answer: She was in danger of going into premature labour

During this episode Carla started having contractions and had to be admitted to hospital. Although the doctors managed to stop the contractions, she was told that she had to have complete bed rest for eight weeks in order to ensure that she did not go into premature labour.
8. Which of the following relationships was rekindled?

Answer: Jeanie and Al

In a tender moment, Al told Jeanie that he missed her laugh, and had taken everything for granted in the past. Jeanie corrected him by saying that they had both had, and that she no longer took anything for granted. Near the end of this episode the pair were shown kissing passionately, before Al left his apartment to get some protection.
9. Doug Ross put a child through unnecessary tests in order to impress the boy's family.

Answer: False

When Doug Ross asked an opthamologist to take look at the child of an influential, wealthy couple, Carol Hathaway assumed that Doug was only following Donald Anspaugh's request that the boy be given the very best. However it turned out that he did not to this to impress the boy's parents, as the opthamologist confirmed Doug's fears that the boy was going blind, as a result of retinitis pigmentosa.
10. What type of specialist surgery was John Carter allowed to scrub in on?

Answer: A kidney transplant

Carter was invited to scrub in on a kidney transplant operation on a female lupus patient, whose brother was donating one of his kidneys. Ecstatic, Carter promised the sister that he would stay with her brother until he woke up. However because of this, Carter missed the vast majority of the debriefing, disappointing Peter Benton in the process.
