Mark made this comment to one of the ER nurses at the beginning of the episode, after making a bargain with Dr. Kerry Weaver. In order to ensure that Dr. Weaver would back his decision to make Dr. Susan Lewis Chief Resident, Mark agreed to make Kerry an Attending Physician.

True to his word, Mark spoke up at the staff meeting, informing Dr. Morgenstern that he was "looking forward" to working with Dr. Weaver. However, later on in the episode, it was revealed that Susan had not been promoted, and Linda Martin had been named Chief Resident instead. This led Mark to believe that Kerry had broken her promise. However in reality, Susan had been offered the position, but turned it down.

Carol's boyfriend was scheduled to see a psychiatrist, but was late for his appointment. Although he claimed that he would reschedule it, Carol knew that this was unlikely, as he did not want to go in the first place. Despite his protestations, Carol insisted that he needed to see someone, as he was "not sleeping" and seemed to be "losing weight".

Moreover she admitted to feeling "terrified to get in the car" with him, in case someone cut him off at a light and he got "out and beat them to death with a tire iron".

Shep refused to go, prompting Carol to state ominously that "something awful's gonna happen". Shep then got in his car and drove away

Answer: Peter Benton

In this episode, Carter invited Benton to his graduation, but Benton didn't seem very keen to do so. Carter was eager for Benton to meet his friends and family, as he had told them all about him. However Benton continued to sound less than enthused, even when Carter reassured him that they had heard "nothing but the best, the very, very best". Persisting, Carter concluded by saying that if Benton could not make the graduation, then he could come to the cocktail party that his dad was throwing for him at the Duke. Benton's final response was that as Carter had his residency and thus did not need to keep brown-nosing him.

At this, Carter's face fell, and Benton relented a little, thanking him for the invitation, but declining nonetheless.

When Mark met his ex-wife for lunch, he expected to discuss their daughter's weekend arrangements. Instead, Jennifer informed him of her plans to re-marry. Clearly stunned, Mark reacted bitterly, stating that her dress should certainly be "something nontraditional". Having dropped her bombshell, Jennifer promptly got up and walked away, leaving a shocked Mark sitting alone.

When Carter went to check on Talia Lucas, he found that she had been moved to the Intensive Care Unit, as she was not responding to antibiotics. As a result of this. she was pushed to Status 1 on the transplant list for a new liver.

A little while later, Jeanie and her husband, Al, separated (although the latter knew nothing about his wife's infidelity at the time). Carter did not make it to his graduation ceremony or his cocktail party because he chose to stay and comfort a teenage patient awaiting a liver transplant. Talia Lucas was distressed by the idea of having to wait for someone to die in order for her to live, and so Carter stayed to comfort her until her parents returned to her side.

Angry at the system and its treatment of some of the hospital's patients, Carol snapped and quit when an insurance company demanded that a little girl be sent "across town with unstable fractures". Indeed this seemed to be the final straw for Carol, after already having witnessed a newborn being sent "home with a congenital heart problem", and a man with "lung cancer who cannot afford treatment".

Having returned from the hospital, Carol found Shep waiting for her. Pressing the issue of his meeting with the psychiatrist, Shep continued to avoid the issue. Instead, he asked Carol why things couldn't stay the way they were. This prompted Carol to insist that he needed help, and if he could not pluck up the courage to go and meet with the psychiatrist, then she could no longer be with him.

When Doug revealed to Mark that he "never really liked" Jennifer, Mark was surprised. In reality, Doug had always pretended to like Jennifer in order to make Mark feel better, but secretly he found her "unsupportive, controlling, manipulative" and demanding.
