Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which episode of "Firefly" does River first utter the litany of "Two by two... Hands of Blue..."?

Answer: "The Train Job"

River utters this litany during "Train Job" while the rest of the crew is arguing over whether to return the medicine to Paradiso. These "Hands of Blue" are then shown at the end of the episode to be the ones pursuing River Tam and her brother.
2. More than once, "Star Wars" ships can be found in "Firefly".

Answer: True

And vice-versa too! In the pilot, "Serenity", an Imperial Lambada-class shuttle can be seen on Persephone, and later on in "Heart of Gold" the shadow puppet play of the exodus from 'Earth-that-was' also features this type of ship. (And that of a firefly too, incidently.)
The "Star Wars" EU has returned the favour, with a firfly class mid-bulk transport making there appearance in some of the comics.
3. In "The Message", Simon and Kaylee (and later Wash and Zoe) visit an exhibit that "shows that alien lifeforms live among us!". What type of animal fetus was it really?

Answer: Cow

An upside down cow fetus. With extra limbs attached. Out of interest, Kaylee then proceed to call it "Bessie" when she got mad with Simon. Because, in his sister's words, Simon was being a boob.
4. Who sings the theme song for "Firefly"?

Answer: Sonny Rhodes

It was Sonny Rhodes who sings it, although Joss Whedon was the one who wrote it, and on the DVD set, one of the special features is Joss singing the "Firefly" theme.
Nathan Fillion and Summer Glau play the characters Mal Reynolds and River Tam respectively, although also on the DVD set, every time Nathan was on the audio commentary, he'd happily sing along to it.
5. Which was the last episode to be filmed?

Answer: "Heart of Gold"

Alan Tudyk admitted in the audio commentary that during these last days of filming, he took the 're-call' button (featured in "Out of Gas") from the set. Later on, he presented it to Joss Whedon to call back the actors if he could get "Firefly" going again.

Thanks for the correction on this question! "The Message" was the first episode filmed after the annoucement that the show was scrapped, "Heart of Gold was the last episode filmed. (Sorry I took so long to correct it!)
6. Who was the actress originally chosen to be Inara Serra?

Answer: Rebecca Gayheart

Rebecca Gayheart was the original actress chosen for the role before Joss Whedon realised that she wasn't really the right choice for the role. Her scenes were shot in singles so she could be replaced easier. Then the fantastic Morena Baccarin got it!

Gina and Jewel, of course, played Zoe and Kaylee respectively.
7. Who was the first person in the series to use the word "Shiny"? (Starting from the pilot episode, "Serenity")

Answer: Wash

Wash is the first person to say "Shiny" in the pilot episode: "Serenity". He says it during the first wreck scene, when they are running from the Alliance crusier.
Usually, Kaylee is the one to say "Shiny" most often throughout the series.
Zoe is heard saying "Shiny" in "The Train Job".
8. According to River in "The Train Job", what is the code given to Serenity's accelerator core?

Answer: 03-K64

"Mid-Bulk Transport, standard radian accelerator core, class code zero-three-dash-K-six-four. Firefly" was River's response after Simon told her they were on a ship.
9. What bird shares a name with one of Niska's henchmen?

Answer: Crow

Crow was Niska's henchman in "The Train Job"... until Mal cycled him through Serenity's engines at the end of the episode.

For those of you have seen the movie "Serenity", you'll know that Albatross is a name River Tam is given.
10. Where was the Battle of Serenity Valley fought?

Answer: Hera

In "Bushwhacked", we find out that Hera was where the Battle of Serenity Valley took place, and that it was believed to be the death knell for the Independent (or Browncoat) Army.
Boros is a planet mentioned in the pilot episode, "Serenity", same goes for the moon, Whitefall.
It's unsure if Shadow, mentioned in "Our Mrs Reynolds", is a planet or a moon. But either way, it's where Mal was born and raised.
