Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which television medical drama featuring surgeons began by following the personal lives and careers of a group of interns, including the primary love story of the title character and her boss known as McDreamy?

Answer: Grey's Anatomy

"Grey's Anatomy", created by Shonda Rhimes who is also known for the "Grey's" spinoff "Private Practice", premiered in March 2005 as a mid-season replacement. The short first season introduced a group of five surgical interns trying to learn their way in their competitive field.

The title character, Dr. Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, began a romantic relationship with an attending surgeon, Dr. Derek Shepherd a.k.a McDreamy, played by Patrick Dempsey, before she even knew he was her superior at the hospital.

In the first few seasons, Meredith and Derek were very on-again, off-again, until they married themselves on a post-it note in season five and later made it legal in order to make the adoption process easier, to adopt their daughter Zola.
2. In which FOX TV series did Will Schuester, a high school teacher, bring together a bunch of very different kids who shared a particular talent and mold them into a winning group, much to the chagrin of his rival, a cheerleading coach?

Answer: Glee

The smash hit "Glee" premiered in 2009. In the first season, Matthew Morrison's character Will Schuester became McKinley High's glee club leader. Despite the best efforts of the cheerleading coach, Sue Sylvester (played by Jane Lynch), who was usually their rival and saboteur, the glee kids, with additions from the football team and cheerleading squad, worked hard to become a winning glee club, winning the Regionals competition for the first time in the second season, while dealing with usual teenage issues.
3. Which comedy drama starred Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as a single mother and her smart headstrong daughter?

Answer: Gilmore Girls

Lauren Graham played mother Lorelai Gilmore and Alexis Bledel was her daughter, also named Lorelai but nicknamed Rory. Lorelai had gotten pregnant with Rory as a teenager and raised her more or less alone. Other stars at various points throughout the series run included Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson, Jared Padelecki and Milo Ventimiglia. "Gilmore Girls" ran for seven seasons on the WB and the CW starting in 2000 and primarily followed Lorelai and Rory's friendships and romantic relationships.
4. Which late '90s game show, hosted by Chuck Woolery, involved a 'Terminator' that eliminated contestants from the game and had as much as two million dollars available to win?

Answer: Greed

"Greed" premiered in November 1999. Contestants were selected in an initial round to form a team of five players who worked together to answer multiple choice questions; each correctly answered question added more money to the bank, with the highest bank usually being $2,000,000; for a period "Greed" turned into "Super Greed" where the top prize was $4,000,000.

It wasn't entirely a team game, however; in the 'Terminator' rounds, one player was selected and offered the chance to go head-to-head with another player in order to try to eliminate them from the game. Winning a 'Terminator' round also won the surviving player some money separate from the team's bank.

In the later rounds of the game, contestants could also decide individually if they wanted to go on and try for more money, or quit and leave with what they had banked. Only one player ever went for the $2,000,000 question and unfortunately ended up leaving with nothing.
5. Which television series lasted five seasons from 1965-1970, won several Emmy awards and featured a bumbling main character with a supply of innovative gadgets who worked alongside a woman who became his wife?

Answer: Get Smart

"Get Smart" starred Don Adams as Agent Maxwell Smart and Barbara Feldon as Agent 99; 99 never had a first name in the series. Both agents worked for CONTROL, an American intelligence office that often fought against the evil organization KAOS. Some KAOS agents were depicted as being German or Eastern European, a common personification of villains at the time the series aired, during the Cold War. Max's gadgets in the series included his often-used shoe phone (that also had the ability to turn into a gun), smoke bombs, booby traps in his home and phones hidden in many other locations. Max and the Chief, his boss, also often used the Cone of Silence to have private conversations. Max and Agent 99 got married in the fourth season of the show.
6. Which television series dealing with the supernatural, that was cancelled in 2010 after five seasons, starred Jennifer Love Hewitt as Melinda and David Conrad as Melinda's husband?

Answer: Ghost Whisperer

On "Ghost Whisperer", the main character Melinda Gordon saw ghosts who hadn't yet "crossed over" and helped them to resolve their unfinished business on Earth so they could be at peace. After being warned at the beginning of the series that her ability would cause death to come to her loved ones, Melinda lost her best friend Andrea at end of season one and later lost her husband Jim as well.

After Jim's death, she saw him as a ghost and tried to make him "cross over", but he entered another dying man's body instead and came back to life as Sam Lucas.

At first he had no memory of being Jim, but Melinda helped him remember and then she had her Jim back, in a different body.
7. An all-time classic sitcom, this show featured four older women who lived together in a house in Miami and chronicled their friendship with each other, their romantic relationships and their other daily challenges and triumphs. What was the name of this award-winning series?

Answer: The Golden Girls

"The Golden Girls" ran from 1985-1992 and won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series, three Golden Globes for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy, and countless other awards and nominations both for the show as a whole and for the actresses as individuals.

The show starred Rue McClanahan, Betty White, Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty as Blanche Devereaux, Rose Nylund, Dorothy Zbornak and Dorothy's mother, Sophia Petrillo (though Estelle Getty was actually younger than Bea Arthur), four women who ended up sharing a house together in Miami, Florida after being widowed, or divorced in Dorothy's case. For seven seasons, viewers laughed and cried along with the women until the series came to end after the character of Dorothy married and moved away from Miami.

The other three characters were carried over into a spin-off that lasted only one season, "The Golden Palace".
8. This television series, based on a series of books and narrated by an unseen character who uses social media to expose the "scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite", premiered in 2007; what is the title?

Answer: Gossip Girl

"Gossip Girl", based on the series of books written by Cecily von Ziegesar, started out by focusing on the return of Serena van der Woodsen (played by Blake Lively) to the Upper East Side of Manhattan and her re-integration into her social circle. This introduced viewers to Gossip Girl, an unseen entity who posted Serena's return and its accompanying gossip to her 'blasts' that automatically went out to all subscribed users via their cell phones and other mobile devices.

As the series continued, other characters such as Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen), Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) and Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford) found themselves the subject of Gossip Girl's posts; thanks to Gossip Girl, everyone in Manhattan knew all about everyone else's love lives and disgraceful behaviour.

The character of Gossip Girl is voiced by Kristen Bell.
9. Which short-lived FOX series starred Seth Green and a bunch of puppets who starred in the show-within-a-show, "Sweetknuckle Junction"?

Answer: Greg the Bunny

"Greg the Bunny" lasted one season on FOX in 2002. It was revived on IFC in 2005-2006 but featured only the puppets in a series of short spoofs. In the FOX series, Greg was a star of a children's TV show called "Sweetknuckle Junction". Greg lived with a human named Jimmy Bender, played by Seth Green. Jimmy's father, Gil (played by Eugene Levy), was the producer of "Sweetknuckle Junction".

Other puppet characters included Count Blah, who said "blah" at the end of almost everything he said, and Warren, an ape who received his own spin-off on MTV in 2010.
10. Which dysfunctional family sitcom starred Donal Logue and Megyn Price as a Irish Catholic married couple with three kids?

Answer: Grounded for Life

"Grounded for Life" ran from 2001-2005 and featured the Finnerty family of Staten Island, New York. Donal Logue and Megyn Price played Sean and Claudia Finnerty, a couple who'd had their first baby when they were only teenagers themselves. The fact that they'd been at home raising children when they should have been out having fun was a common plot theme in the show; they were often shown as well-meaning but irresponsible.

Their Irish Catholic background was also drawn upon, such as with the strict, hell-fearing character of Walt, Sean's father, and the kids' education at a private school run by nuns.

The Finnerty family had three children at the beginning of the series - Lily, Jimmy and Henry. Claudia gave birth to a fourth child, Rose, in the series finale. Kevin Corrigan starred as Sean's even more irresponsible brother Eddie.
