Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the medical condition the risen suffer by crossing the boundary?

Answer: stigmata

There is an epicenter located at the graveyard from which all of the Glitch characters have risen. As they progress away from this epicenter, an invisible boundary is reached causing bleeding from the eyes. At one point, the boundary begins to shrink and the Noregard scientist recreate the glitch in order to stabilize the boundary.

Noregard ("no regard") is a lab seeking the formula for long life and/or reanimation of life. They exploit the risen for the clues to this process.
2. What is the slightly morbid hobby of ex-con, Owen?

Answer: taxidermy

One of the risen, Kate, meets a mysterious neighbor, Owen, and the two go for a walk. During their walk, they pass a bird that had perished due to the glitch. Unbeknownst to Kate, Owen retrieves the bird and uses his prison skills to create a mount.

Owen served time for manslaughter and took up taxidermy in prison.
3. With some effort and a dash of danger, what object is retrieved by Paddy from the Fitzgerald chimney?

Answer: dress

Patrick "Paddy" Fitzgerald largely ignores the rest of the risen, instead embarking on his own mission to restore his legacy to his Aboriginal bride, Kalinda. He is aided by teenage Beau who ends up being his grandson. Paddy soon discovers he was murdered by his own family when they uncovered his relationship with Kalinda. The dress he retrieves contained his last will and testament, stitched into the hem, that eventually gives Beau a better life.

Paddy was the first town mayor of the fictional town in the series after making a fortune in gold mines and swindling.
4. What type of musical instrument is blown to trigger memories in the risen?

Answer: whistle

The whistle, actually a Boatswain's call, was carried by and buried with character William Blackburn from his days at sea. It is never fully explained but the sounding of the whistle seems to trigger memories in the risen. It makes a shrill, airy, otherworldly call that makes even the non-risen listener nostalgic.
5. One of the risen, Maria, is an accomplished musician specializing at what instrument?

Answer: piano

Maria Massola is a short lived character that excelled at and taught piano. During flashbacks, Maria remembers that she had a fight with her husband, Leon. In a rage, she leaves in the family car and doesn't realize their daughter, Anna, is in the back of the car. Maria has an auto accident and both mother and daughter perish.

The glitch only brings back one of them and Maria mourns this fact until her time is cut short by reaper, Vic.
6. What is the original cause of death of the blue-eyed boy, Charlie Thompson?

Answer: suicide

Young Charlie struggles with his memories from his days at war, the loves he lost, and his struggles as a closeted gay man. His story drags on and on, first you think it possible he died during WWI, then wonder if he died in a bar fight, then if he died of tuberculosis and lastly you find he took his own life unable to cope with it all.

He takes good care of the entire glitched group and he continues to struggle with who he is.
7. What kind of hungry entity does Tam Chi Wai attempt to appease?

Answer: ghost

In Season 3, the results of Noregard's stabilizing experiments join the risen. One of the two newly risen is a Chinese immigrant, Tam Chi Wai, who was once a Chinese stage performer. Tam's back story covers his immigration to Australia to earn an income in the Chinese labor camps. Risen, he's very confused and convinced he's back because of a "hungry ghost".

He tries to appease the Chinese spirits with cookies (which his co-risen partner, Belle, wants to eat).
8. What was the original cause of death of Kate Willis?

Answer: cancer

Kate Willis is the late wife of town police officer, Sergeant James Hayes. As she had only been dead and buried two years after a breast cancer battle, he's especially shocked to find her among the risen. Things get further complicated when Kate finds that her husband married her best friend, Sarah, shortly after her death AND that Sarah is expecting the couple's first child.
9. What type of biological fluid is extorted from Kate?

Answer: blood

In the latter half of Season 3, that feeling you have that Owen isn't all that he seems to be comes to fruition. He has befriended Kate in an effort to force her to give a blood transfusion to his dying sister. In a very dramatic scene, Kate draws her own blood while Owen and his henchmen argue.

This ends with Kate barely escaping and Owen dead in the street. They never tell you if the transfusion worked for the sister who was also present.
10. As the series ends, what is the means of purging the glitch and returning the world to normal?

Answer: forest fire

The existence of the risen begins to unravel the natural world with power surges, water running at odd angles, and animals dying and decomposing in minutes. William Blackburn (who is some form of grim reaper) realizes the only way to save the world is to return all the risen to the grave.

He, together with Sergeant James, gather all of the risen and reapers convincing them they had a life and now must return to the grave to save mankind. All of them conveniently agree and willingly succumb to the forest fire surrounding them.
