The dashboard meters have all of Hurley's bad luck numbers on them when the car breaks down. Only two of the numbers stayed the same throughout the scene; one being the temperature of 23°C (73°F) and the other was the distance the car had traveled at 42Km (26mi).

While Hurley taps his fingers on the counter and asks the ticket lady to hurry up, an announcement on the PA system lets everyone know that flight 917 is boarding.

An irate Hurley informs her that he didn't have to purchase two seats on his flight to Australia. The ticket lady doesn't budge and simply asks Hurley if he would like her to weigh him. Hurley just tells her to book both seats. We hear her confirm seat 20G and book the one next to it.

Michael approaches Jin on the raft with the booklet Sun made him and asks Jin which ones he knows. Jin lists them off and says starboard, aft, port, sail, and eat. He does not tell Michael that rudder is one of the words Sun wrote down in the booklet, however he does know the word as he says it several times when the rudder breaks off.

Sun approaches Shannon to tell her that Boone died bravely. Sun then asks Shannon if she believes that they are stuck on the island because they are being punished. Sun explains that she believes they are being punished for all the bad things they did and all the lies they told and secrets they kept. Shannon asks her who is punishing them and Sun tells her that fate is punishing them. Claire, who is sitting miserably nearby, says to them that no one is punishing them because there is no such thing as fate. Similarly, Jack tells Locke in a different scene that he doesn't believe in destiny.

The only thing that did not happen during this sequence of shots is Kate smiling at Sawyer. Sawyer is seen walking through the aisle of the plane, but doesn't see any other survivors. Kate is seen walking through the aisle in front of the marshal with a coat covering her handcuffs.

She is later seen sitting next to the marshal as he buckles her handcuffs to the seat. Jin is looking at the Rolex watch in a case, while Sun reads the Korean magazine next to him. Claire is seen entering the plane and then getting a hand from Arzt putting her bag into the overhead compartment. Walt is playing his video game while Michael watches him then reaches over and buckles Walt's seat belt. Locke is in his seat watching Jack who is also putting something into the overhead compartment and looking around. Jack looks down and catches Locke's eyes and they smile at each other. Locke continues watching him as Jack takes his seat.

In their seats, Shannon is rummaging through her bag for something, and Boone hands her an inhaler. Shannon smiles at him. Charlie is seen struggling to put his guitar into a closet. Sayid sits in his seat and gets a look from another passenger. Sayid then pulls out pictures of Nadia/Noor and looks at them. Hurley makes it on the plane and panting and sweating he makes his way down the aisle and gives Walt a thumbs up as he passes by.
