Although Kate later ends up in Iowa, we see her remove her Nebraska plates, go inside and dye her hair, ask a clerk for a letter and go back to her car where we can now see she has replaced the Nebraska plates for Ohio plates.

Mr. Arzt tells them that if they don't set sail soon, the prevailing winds will carry them south instead of north. Sawyer is annoyed and tells him that the weather man on television doesn't know what the weather is going to do and asks why they should trust him. Mr. Arzt replies that they should trust him because he's a doctor and Sawyer is a hillbilly. Sawyer corrects Mr. Arzt, reminding him that he's not a doctor, he's a high school Science teacher. We see an example of Mr. Arzt's teaching personality when he poses a question for everyone in the vicinity to hear asking what the only thing south of the island is. Jack answers that Antarctica is the only thing south of them, and Mr. Arzt tells Jack he is correct.

The events in this episode likely took place before what occurred in "Whatever the Case May Be", because Kate and Tom take the toy plane out of the time capsule they buried in 1989 during this episode. In "Whatever the Case May Be", Kate holds up a bank in order to get into a safety deposit box that has the little toy plane in it.

In this episode, as she makes her escape, we see her leave the toy plane behind in Tom's car.
