"LOST" Little Details: "Numbers" Quiz

The first three things on the television that we see before we actually see Hurley are square dancing, aerobics and a cooking show. His mom calls out to him to say she hopes he's not watching the girls in the g-strings. He replies that he's not, reminds her that she needs to respect his privacy, and continues flipping channels.

The next three shows we see are a police show, a hockey game and finally the lotto show he was looking for.

Answer: A chicken

Hurley apparently works at a fried chicken joint of some sort. He has his name tag on the right side and the cartoon chicken head on the left side.

Hurley is taking his mother to see her surprise when he's talking about all the bad things that have happened lately. He mentions how weird it was that Father Aguilar got struck by lighting at the funeral. He said it was because of a freak storm but he doesn't seem too convinced that it was entirely due to the freak storm.

Rousseau has set up a large trap with huge spears. Sayid says that Hurley stepped on a pressure trigger and that if he gets off, the spears will swing down and kill him. When someone suggests replacing Hurley's weight on the trigger, Charlie wonders how they're going to manage that. Hurley then says he wants to jump off and assures them and himself that he can make it because he's "spry".

Although they vehemently demand he not do that, Hurley jumps anyway, and makes it.

Hurley is about to tell Charlie his secret when a shot hits a tree behind Charlie. Hurley calmly asks if someone is shooting at them when another shot comes dangerously close. The two men run into the forest and before another shot can ring out Hurley runs into Rousseau.

Hugo Reyes is Hurley's real name. We don't really find out where the Hurley nickname comes from in this episode. Reyes is the plural form of king in Spanish. If you're talking about one king you would say rey.

Answer: Kalgoorlie

These are all Australian towns, however, Leonard mentions Kalgoorlie to Hurley as he's being dragged away by the orderly. Kalgoorlie and Coolgardie are very close to each other and are both about 500km west of Perth. Concurry is in Queensland and is approximately 1250km northwest of Brisbane. Goondiwindi is right on the border of Queensland and New South Wales and is about 250km southwest of Brisbane.

Hurley asks Rousseau what the numbers mean and she says she doesn't know. She tells him her and her team followed the transmission of the numbers to the island where all her team members got a "sickness" that made her kill them; leaving her alone. She tells Hurley that she believes the numbers led them to the island and were bad news so she changed the transmission. Hurley is happy that someone finally agrees the numbers are cursed.

I'm guessing Rousseau didn't really say "hey", but Hurley just paraphrased the message as he would say it. After he hands off the battery, Hurley turns to Sayid and says, "she says 'hey'", and walks off. Sayid is quite taken aback by the message.

Charlie wants to know more about Hurley so he tells Hurley his big "I used to be a junkie" secret. Charlie expects Hurley to reciprocate, but is only annoyed when Hurley tells him his big secret is that he's worth $156 million. Charlie thinks Hurley is lying so he leaves him alone by the fire. Hurley won approximately $78 million with his lottery ticket.

The rest of the money came from the insurance from the burnt down shoe factory in Canada, the box company he owns, the settlement from the police for the wrongful arrest, as well as several other investments totalling $156 million.
