When the "security system" attacks them you can clearly see that only Jack and Locke remove their packs before running, while Kate and Hurley just take off. Kate asks Jack later why he switched packs with her, but if she didn't know he had done this, why didn't she remove her pack before running like Jack instructed them to? Curious.
