"Lonesome Dove" - Do You Know Them Well? Quiz

Augustus was born in Tennessee and was schooled there. Although he remembered some of his Latin letters, he did not remember enough to know what he had written in Latin on his famous sign. Although he was born in Scotland, he told Gus that he's just as American as anybody born in Tennessee. I would have to agree. Larry McMurtry made him into the all American man.

P. E. Parker was shown on Gus's sign as a wrangler. He had been a ranger with Call and Gus long before they moved to Lonesome Dove. Captain Call was the one who accepted Pea Eye into the Rangers.

His name is given at least twice. It is on Gus's sign as Joshua and it is on Deets' tombstone as Josh. Although it was not shown in the movie, in the book it took a lot of thinking back in time to remember that he had a name besides Deets. He tried to remember it because his name was so much shorter than the others on Gus's sign.

His name was the only on the sign that had last name first, because Gus had already put Deets on it. It read, "Deets, Joshua".

Answer: Nebraska

He left Montana to go back to Nebraska in hopes that Lorie would eventually fall in love with him. Sadly, she never did.

Answer: Jasper

Jasper could never learn to keep his mouth shut when it came to making comments about Lorie's past. Dish was so in love with her that her past never mattered to him. He ended up in a fight with Jasper that Captain Call broke up with the words, "If you boys want to fight, collect your wages first."

Her two daughters were the only children Clara had that lived. She had previously lost three sons. She wanted a son so badly that she adopted Martin, July's son, almost as soon as Elmira left.

Although they do not go into depth about his relationship with her in the movie, the book goes into greater detail. Maggie was the one and only woman Call ever went to. After an argument with her, he never went to see her again. She eventually got together with Jake. When Jake came back to Lonesome Dove, Gus told them both that one of them was most likely Newt's pa.

He knew that Gus would follow them even though Lorie did not. She told Blue Duck that she did not belong to Gus, thinking that Gus would not come after her. Blue Duck knew that he would follow.

She does not make it to San Francisco in the "Lonesome Dove" movie. In a later novel of McMurtry's, "Streets of Laredo", she does finally make it. She goes to school and ends up back in Texas teaching school. She also marries one of the men from "Lonesome Dove", (but I won't spoil it for you.)
