At first they misunderstand the woman, who seems intent on getting someone to listen. Trapper suggests she might mean 'Captain Forrest', the 'brain surgeon who fell down a lot'. Hawkeye shoots this idea down, as Captain Forrest has been 'gone over 2 years'. Captain Forrest was played by Tom Skerritt in the film.

Walter R. Jacobson is the name of the father, who we never see. The very cute child is Sang Min, and the mother is listed in the credits as Chim Sah (though we never hear her name during the episode).

As a matter of fact, her letter is very understanding. She suggests that Henry is in a difficult situation, where loneliness and other longings can lead to occasional indiscretions. She adds that she understands if Henry is caught in such a situation, and essentially gives Henry permission to 'fool around'. He seems very pleased by this letter...at least, at the beginning.
