Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What "TNG" episode, if any, did NOT feature an appearance by Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi)?

Answer: "Hide and Q"

It was interesting when I first saw this episode that Troi wasn't anywhere to be seen, and even in the captain's log, Picard mentions that she is off-ship. In "Relics", she wasn't in the episode until the last scene, and in "Face of the Enemy" she was not herself, but she was in the episode playing her character that was masquerading as a Romulan Tal Shiar agent.
2. What are the *only* two episodes that do not feature a bridge scene in "TNG"?

Answer: "Family" and "Liaisons"

I had to double-check this one. "Family" did not have any bridge scenes for sure. "Liaisons" did not have any either, but I wasn't sure so I had to review my DVD. It seems like it should, but it only features the other main areas.
3. In "Cause and Effect", what was the first card for each player (Riker, Worf, Crusher, Data) during the poker game in the last loop?

Answer: 3, 3, 3, 3

Remember, in the second-to-last loop, Data sent the "message" through to the next loop just before the ship exploded, which was "three". So he inadvertantly stacked the deck so each player received a three, then a three of a kind.
4. What was the first "TNG" episode to be directed by a "TNG" cast member?

Answer: "The Offspring"

Jonathan Frakes directed this wonderful episode in his first ever directorial stint. Since then, he has directed a few more episodes and two "Star Trek" movies ("First Contact" and "Insurrection"). He also paved the way for other cast members to start directing.
5. In "The Measure of a Man", what does JAG Phillipa Louvois first call Data when she "summarily" judges him (before Riker agree to prosecute Data in a trial)?

Answer: toaster

Without prosecution, there would be no trial, so given the evidence before her at the time, Louvois had to rule Data was a machine without the rights of humanity, so he could not decide for himself. Louvois chose a "racist" term in the hopes that Riker would agree to prosecute and therefore have the case go to a trial.
6. The containment field on the warp core of the Enterprise-D can be maintained until the field strength drops below what percent?

Answer: 15

According to Ro and O'Brien in "Disaster", the containment field around the warp core can operate until the field strength drops below 15%. After that, the warp core will explode.
7. Who was the first "DS9" main character to appear on "TNG"?

Answer: Dr. Bashir

In "Birthright, Part I" the Enterprise docked at Deep Space 9, and Dr. Bashir came aboard to use Main Engineering on the Enterprise since his computers on DS9 were not quite good enough.
8. In "Future Imperfect", what one thing confirmed for Riker that the "future" he was experiencing could not be real?

Answer: the image of his wife, Minuet

All these things were suspicious to Riker, but it was not until he saw Minuet that he knew that the world he was experiencing could not be real. Remember, Minuet was a hologram from "a very special program" from the Bynars in "11001001".
9. According to canon materials, we never find out who or what caused the destruction of the Federation and Romulan outposts in "The Neutral Zone", but who is the prime suspect for the majority of the fans?

Answer: The Borg

Yep, the Borg. Although, it is never officially said that it was the Borg for sure, it is almost a sure thing, especially considering the Borg Cube that the Enterprise-D ran into in System J-25 was a lot closer than Borg Space.
10. According to Worf, why do the Klingons from the 24th century look different from the 23rd century Klingons?

Answer: Klingons do not discuss it with outsiders.

Worf doesn't want to talk about it when asked on the "DS9" episode "Trials and Tribble-ations", saying that it is an internal matter. On a side note, the real reason for the difference is that the makeup changes and improvements between the 60's and 80's made it possible for forehead ridges to be added.

Edited to add-In "Star Trek: Enterprise", there was a three-episode arc that dealt with this very issue. The story made it appear that it was a failed genetic experiment that made the ridges go away for a little over a hundred years.
