Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Transformers are sentient robots that come from what planet?

Answer: Cybertron

The Transformers are a race of sentient robots that inhabited their planet, Cybetron, for millions of years. Those that were originally built as consumer goods became Autobots, and were lead by Optimus Prime. Those that were built as military hardware became Decepticons, and were lead by Megatron.

The Decepticons, intent on controlling the planet and eventually the universe, started a war that went on for countless eons, devastating Cybetron and its resources.
2. Millions of years worth of fighting managed to deplete what basic resource of life on the Transformers' home world?

Answer: energy

Millions of years of war managed to deplete Cybetron of nearly all its energy. "More Than Meets the Eye" opens with Wheeljack and Bumblebee, who are trying to scrape together energy from wherever they can find it. Dodging Decepticon jets, they return to the Autobot base at Iacon. Optimus Prime believes he has found a new source of energy on a distant planet, and launches a ship to go after it.

The Decepticons, having discovered their plans, follow them and board their ship. In the ensuing fight, the ship crashes on an unknown planet -- Earth -- and all Transformers end up deactivated.
3. Having crashed into the side of a large mountain, the Transformers were revived and rebuilt following what uncommon event?

Answer: volcanic eruption

Four million years after crashing into a mountain on Earth, the volcano erupts and inadvertently brings the Autobot ship's systems back online. The system -- Teletraan 1 -- repairs a transformer, who happens to be Skywarp, a Decepticon. Skywarp readily helps Teletraan 1 rebuild the Decepticons, which are given new forms based on designs found on Earth. Though they leave the Autobots as they are, Starscream blasts at the ship a few times, unknowingly pushing Optimus Prime into Teletraan 1's repair beam.

In the meantime, the Decepticons start setting up a base and gathering energy.
4. Sparkplug and his son Spike Witwicky work in what "offshore" structure that is an early target of the Decepticons' attacks?

Answer: oil rig

The Autobots Hound and Cliffjumper attempt to attack the Decepticons, but only end up alerting them to their own revival. The Decepticons fend them off, and their search for energy takes them to an offshore oil rig. They quickly overpower the humans working the rig, and beat the Autobots when they arrive to fight them.

A few blasts from Megatron destroys the oil rig and sets it on fire. Optimus Prime manages to rescue Spike and Sparkplug, who offer to help the Autobots beat the Decepticons. They believe they can help because they know more about Earth than the Autobots do.
5. When Spike gets a tour of the Autobots' ship, he unknowingly brings which Decepticon -- their communications officer -- with him?

Answer: Soundwave

Spike gets a chance to learn more about the Autobots and their ship. He sees Hound, who is able to create holograms, and Mirage, who is able to turn invisible. He also finds a cassette player and brings it into the ship. The cassette player turns out to be Soundwave, who uses the opportunity (as well as his cassette Transformers) to record data from Teletraan 1 about Earth's energy sources. Spike eventually discovers Soundwave and sounds the alarm; Soundwave escapes, but Jazz and Prowl capture one of his cassettes.
6. What (fictional) dam does Teletraan 1 claim is the largest in the Western Hemisphere?

Answer: Sherman Dam

Soundwave reports that the Sherman Dam is the largest in the Western Hemisphere and has a capacity of 1.75 million kilowatts. That's not enough to create energon cubes, so Rumble is dispatched to create a tidal wave and send a surge of water over the dam. Sure enough, the surge creates an overflow of power -- and water. Ironhide and Bumblebee manage to divert the flood and prevent it from doing any lasting damage.

In the meantime, Optimus Prime and Megatron fight atop the dam, attacking each other with axe and flail. Megatron wins and forces Optimus Prime over the edge of the dam.
7. Megatron claims that the richest source of energy on Earth are the ruby crystals of what now-renamed country?

Answer: Burma

Though real-life rubies have little to do with energy, Burma/Myanmar was historically the richest source of them. Megatron, claiming that the Burmese ruby mines are rich in energy, takes his troops to Burma where the Decepticons mine them and turn them into red energon cubes.

The Autobots follow them there and Sparkplug and Bumblebee enter the mines to set a bomb. Unbeknown to the Autobots, Thundercracker and Skywarp catch Sparkplug and Bumblebee. When they fail to emerge, Optimus Prime goes after them -- and gets caught in the blast as well.
8. Attempting to trick the Decepticons, the Autobots mention a rocket base in front of which Decepticon cassette that they had captured?

Answer: Ravage

The Autobots are able to rescue Optimus Prime and dig Sparkplug and Bumblebee out of the rubble. However, the Decepticons also manage to blast their way free and make off with more energon. Ironhide tries to fight them, but is blasted away, and the Decepticons emerge victorious yet again.

The only bit of good news in all this is that Starscream had wasted enough energon that the Decepticons had to make one more stop. Trailbreaker managed to learn that they were looking for rocket fuel, and the Autobots casually mentioned a supposed location of a rocket base in front of Ravage -- right before "accidentally" letting him escape.
9. Does the Autobot hologram of a rocket base fool the Decepticons?

Answer: No

The good news: the Autobots are able to lure Megatron to the rocket base, which is a holographic illusion. The bad news: Megatron was never fooled in the first place. He attacks the base with a fake army while the real Decepticons raid a real rocket base.

The energy from the rocket base is finally enough to return to Cybertron, and Megatron starts making his final preparations to return. Meanwhile, the entire Autobot army starts mobilizing for one final attempt to stop Megatron.
10. Which Autobot, able to become invisible, sneaks aboard the Decepticon ship and brings it crashing back to Earth?

Answer: Mirage

In their final push against the Decepticons, the Autobots manage to fight them to a standstill. Megatron calls his troops to the cruiser -- and they take off to Cybertron. On board the cruiser, Starscream, who had expressed discontent at Megatron's leadership, starts fighting him in an attempt to become leader himself.

In a moment of distraction, Mirage reveals himself and blasts the cruiser's controls. He parachutes back to Earth and the Autobots as the Decepticon cruiser crashes into the ocean.
