Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the original leader of the Decepticons in "The Transformers" animated series?

Answer: Megatron

Megatron was the leader of the Decepticon army and the arch-nemesis of the Autobot leader Optimus Prime. Despite being a 20 ft tall robot, he transformed into a Walther P-38 handgun with various attachments that could shrink down to human size if necessary. Megatron was extremely powerful and wore a large black fusion powered cannon on his right arm. Megatron was the leader of the Decepticons throughout the first two seasons of "The Transformers" cartoon series. Megatron would continue to lead the Decepticons during seasons three and four after being reformatted into Galvatron following "The Transformers: The Movie".
2. Which of these characters was not one of the three original F-15 "Seekers" to debut in season one of "The Transformers"?

Answer: Slipstream

The "Seekers" is a fan term used to describe a team of Decepticon warriors who all transformed into F-15 fighter jets. Starscream was the leader of the Seekers and had a red, white and blue color scheme. He was normally portrayed as an untrustworthy individual who was always looking for opportunities to overthrow Megatron and take command of the Decepticons. Thundercracker was mostly blue and white and had the unique ability to generate sonic booms. Skywarp was black, white and purple and had the ability to instantly teleport from one location to another.

There were also numerous unnamed Seekers of various colors that served mainly as generic soldiers.
3. Which of these Decepticons was left behind to guard Cybertron in the season 1 episode "More Than Meets the Eye"?

Answer: Shockwave

Shockwave was a Decepticon who transformed into a futuristic laser gun. He was famous for having no facial features, except for a single yellow eye. When the Decepticons left Cybertron to pursue the Autobots in the Ark in "More Than Meets the Eye", Megatron instructed Shockwave to remain behind and tend to Cybertron's needs. Shockwave managed to keep Cybertron running for four million Earth years after Megatron and the other Decepticons crashed landed on Earth along with the Autobots. Shockwave finally managed to establish contact with Megatron in the season one episode "Transport to Oblivion" after the Decepticons were revived on Earth in 1984.
4. Which of the following was not one of Soundwave's cassette minions in "The Transformers" animated series?

Answer: Steeljaw

Soundwave was the communications officer of the Decepticons. His ability to transform into a human sized tape recorder made him a master of espionage. Soundwave was famous for having a computerized monotone voice. Soundwave also commanded several other robots that transformed into his cassette tapes. Laserbeak was a red condor, Ravage was a black panther and Rumble was a blue/purple humanoid robot who could create earthquakes with his piledriver arms. Steeljaw, however, was a season three character who was associated with the Autobot Blaster.

More of Soundwave's cassette minions would show up later on in the series.
5. What was the name of the three identical Decepticon soldiers who transformed into a single camera in "The Transformers" animated series?

Answer: Reflector

Reflector was a Decepticon who was comprised of three identical triplet robots who acted in unison with one another. All three robots in the cartoon were designed to look exactly the same, except for one robot who had the lens on his abdomen. The three robots transformed and merged together to form the camera. Along with Soundwave and the cassettes, Reflector was another master of espionage. Additional Reflector type robots appeared in the series as generic soldiers.
6. The season one episode "Heavy Metal War" introduced which Decepticon combiner?

Answer: Devastator

The episode "Heavy Metal War" introduced the Constructicons, a team of six Decepticons that transformed into green/purple colored construction vehicles. The six vehicles had the ability to merge together to form the mighty robot, Devastator. The team consisted of Scrapper (payloader/right leg), Scavenger (steam shovel/right arm), Mixmaster (cement mixer/left leg), Long Haul (dump truck/lower torso), Bonecrusher (bulldozer/left arm) and Hook (crane/upper torso and head). Menasor was the combined form of the Stunticons, who debuted in the same season two episode as Superion, the combined form of the Aerialbots. Predaking was the combined form of the Predacons, who didn't show up until season three.
7. Which of the following Insecticons did not appear in "The Transformers" animated series?

Answer: Ransack

The Insecticons made their animated series debut in the season one episode, "A Plague of Insecticons". The Insecticons remained aboard the Decepticon warship after Megatron left to invade the Ark in "More Than Meets the Eye". They eventually crash landed in Indonesia and took the form of robotic insects.

The Insecticons had special stomachs that could convert matter into energy, which meant that anything they ate would become fuel. They also had the ability to create numerous clones of themselves.

The main three Insecticons were Bombshell (rhinoceros beetle), Kickback (grasshopper) and Shrapnel (stag beetle). Ransack was a Deluxe Insecticon from the Transformers toyline but due to legal reasons he could not be used in the cartoon.
8. Who was not one of the "Coneheads" that debuted in the season two episode "Dinobot Island"?

Answer: Drift

The Coneheads were three additional Seeker warriors that debuted during the season two episode "Dinobot Island". They were based on the same toy design as the original Seekers, however their animation models were altered to better differentiate them from the original trio.

They transformed into F-15 fighter jets, however each one had specially modified wings. Dirge was dark blue with yellow delta and canard wings, Ramjet was black and white with purple delta wings and Thrust was black and maroon and had VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) fans on his wings.
9. The Decepticons added two triple changers to their ranks in season two of "The Transformers". One was Astrotrain, who was the other?

Answer: Blitzwing

Season two of "The Transformers" introduced the first two triple changers of the series. Blitzwing debuted first in the episode "Dinobot Island" and transformed into a tank and a fighter jet. Astrotrain debuted in the episode "Megatron's Master Plan" and transformed into a space shuttle and a steam locomotive.

They both shared a spotlight episode named "Triple Takeover", where they both attempted to take over as leader of the Decepticons. Octane, was a Decepticon triple changer that transformed into a tanker truck and jumbo jet.

However, Octane would not be seen until season three. Broadside and Sandstorm were both Autobot triple changers who also debuted in season three.
10. Which character was not a member of the Combaticons in "The Transformers" animated series?

Answer: Warpath

The Combaticons were a team of Decepticons that transformed into various military vehicles. The team consisted of Onslaught (blue/green missile truck), Brawl (green tank), Swindle (yellow/purple Jeep), Blast Off (brown/purple space shuttle) and Vortex (grey helicopter).

The five merged together to form the combiner Bruticus, with Onslaught forming the torso and the rest of the Combaticons forming limbs. In the cartoon, the Combaticons debuted in the season two episode "Starscream's Brigade". In the series, the Combaticons were rogue Decepticon prisoners that were liberated by Starscream and rebuilt on Earth to help him take over as leader of the Decepticons. Warpath was a red Autobot tank who debuted in season two.
