When Bobby and Diane realize that they forgot to bring a witness, they ask a couple waiting to get married themselves -- complete strangers to them both! -- to fill in. The imminent groom, a man named Alex Johnson, agrees to stand as witness to the hasty nuptials.

Diane's mother, fed up with decades of physical (and probably sexual) abuse, finally shot her husband dead in season three. Diane's brother Dougie tried to take the blame, but Bobby and Diane eventually figured out the truth. (Incidentally, Diane has no sisters.)

Denise Crosby played Tasha Yar, and later Susan Dalto. Only a last-minute maneuver from the departing Arthur Fancy saved the 15th squad from Dalto. Lt. Tony Rodriguez was given the squad thanks to a single phone call from Fancy.

Much is made of the fact that Rodriguez spent many years working deep undercover assignments as a Narcotics officer.

Baldwin tells Greg Medavoy that he is named for pioneering African-American novelist James Baldwin, who wrote such works as "Go Tell It on the Mountain." Jones originally told his new colleagues that he likes to go by the nickname "D", but that went away pretty quickly -- everyone wound up calling him "Baldwin" right up until the end of the series.

Sylvia was the victim of a stray bullet. Danny was murdered after getting too deeply involved in an undercover assignment concerning the mobbed-up employees of a strip club. Jill left the show in disgrace, after having helped her felon husband commit a number of major crimes. She just disappeared one episode, and has presumably been on the run from the law ever since!

In a rare moment of physical affection, Andy -- who knows full well that Bobby is about to die -- kisses his best friend, and whispers to him, "I'll take care of her," a reference to Diane, Bobby's soon-to-be widow. (If you can watch this scene without crying, your heart is made of wood.)

Late in season eight, Connie tells Diane that, when she was fifteen years old, she had a daughter whom she subsequently gave up for adoption. In the ninth season, Connie would make contact with her now-teenaged daughter, with mixed results.

Greg helped his friend Abby Sullivan (Paige Turco) and her lover Kathy achieve their dream of parenthood. Unfortunately, Kathy was killed thanks to the machinations of a jealous ex-girlfriend soon afterward.

Diane had a chance encounter with Dr. Victor Carreras (David Barrera), the doctor who had been so valued by both Diane and Bobby Simone as Bobby was dying years earlier, and their relationship took an almost immediate, unexpectedly romantic turn.
