Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. BBC's 'Doctor Who' has been on air for decades and the Doctor was stuck on Earth for quite some time as scientific advisor to UNIT. Who commanded UNIT during this exile?

Answer: Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart

We first met the brigadier as a colonel when London was being invaded by the Yetis. Brigadier Bambera was UNIT commander during the adventure 'Battlefield' with the Seventh Doctor.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart was played by Nicholas Courtney.
2. In a series renowned for killing off security types, 'Star Trek' (original series) had a number of navigators before settling on who?

Answer: Pavel Chekov

For a series filmed at the height of the Cold War, Chekov's pride in his Russian heritage was unusual from a Western perspective. Lieutenant Styles was one of Chekov's predecessors and we saw Surek and Lincoln in one of the episodes.

Pavel Chekov was played by Walter Keonig.
3. 'Stargate SG1' ran for ten series, exploring the varied worlds accessible through the stargate nexus. As important as the main leads in the series were the medics. Who was the chief medic until their on-screen death?

Answer: Dr Janet Fraiser

Dr Fraiser spent most of her time back at Stargate Command but she and her teams often came to the rescue of the exploration teams. She died when an off-world mission came under fire. Dr McCoy is, of course, Bones from 'Star Trek'. Harry Sullivan was a companion of Doctor Who and Dr Cotter was the first team leader in the UK show 'Primeval'.

Dr Fraiser was played by Teryl Rotherly.
4. In 'Star Trek Deep Space Nine', Captain Sisko brought his son to the Station when he was made its commander. Who was this young fellow?

Answer: Jake

Jake was resentful about being exiled to such a backwater place but after making friends with Nog, a young Ferrengi, he became reconciled to his new home. Through the series we saw Jake grow up. Unlike his parents, Jake did not go into Starfleet, deciding to become a reporter instead.

Jake was played by Cirroc Lofton.
5. This fellow makes sure that the members of his team were free to investigate the anomalies and creatures that afflicted us in ITV1's 'Primeval'. Who was this Civil Servant?

Answer: James Lester

James Lester was initially very sceptical when he and his department first got caught up in the anomalies but after being appointed head of the ARC (Anomaly Research Centre), Lester fought hard for the resources to run it. By the fourth season, Mr Lester had been knighted 'for services to the country' - more justifiably in his case than is possibly the usual case!

James Lester was played by Ben Miller.
6. In the TV series 'Logan's Run', Logan and Jessica ran from the City of Domes in order to save their lives. Of course, the City authorities didn't take this lying down and sent out Logan's ex colleague to recapture him and Jessica. Who was this enemy?

Answer: Francis 7

Francis and his sandmen were used to push along the story when the writers couldn't find a better story.

Francis 7 was played by Randy Powell.
7. In 'Blake's Seven', Blake and his crew spent four seasons trying to destroy the Federation but they didn't have it all their own way and the main reason was down to who?

Answer: Servalan

When we first met Servalan, she was a senior naval officer tasked with bringing Blake to justice but as the series continued, she became an empress then a hunted fugitive in her own right. Avon and Villa were members of Blake's crew - Avon seeing himself as Blake's second-in-command. Travis was another of the enemies Blake's people faced.

Servelan was played by Jacqueline Pearce.
8. From the eponymous series, Doctor Who faced many enemies, some more than once, but this many times repeated character was one of his own people; who?

Answer: The Master

Although the Mad Monk and the Rani were also Time Lords, it's the Master whose attempts to destroy the universe the Doctor had to thwart over multiple regenerations.

The Master, played initially by Roger Delgado, was also played by Anthony Ainley, Geoffrey Beevers, Peter Pratt, Eric Roberts, Sir Derek Jacobi and John Simms.
9. 'The Tomorrow People' were a group of young children, with extraordinary powers. Although Earthborn, they had contact with the Galactic Federation through this person.

Answer: Timus

As well as being the Federation's representative, Timus also gave his voice to the Tomorrow People's uber intelligent computer.

Both Timus and Tim, the computer, were played by Philip Gilbert.
10. Back to 'Stargate SG1': This sergeant made sure all the Star Gate teams got to their destinations but never got to go on a mission of his own.

Answer: Sgt Harriman

Sergeant Harriman was quite happy to see the teams travelling off-world without joining them. Besides it gets interesting back at Stargate Command at times too! Sgt Bilko was a character from 1950s American TV land and sergeants Bothari and Taura were from Lois Bujold's 'Vorkosigan'verse.

Sergeant Harriman was played by Gary Jones.
