Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Locke's first flashback, he is shown attending a group therapy session. The first person to speak in this session is a character named Francine. How much money did Francine say her mother stole from her?

Answer: $30

Locke is irritated that Francine would be upset about $30, saying "Francine feels a little too much, you ask me." He then reveals his own situation to the group, saying he never knew who his parents were until they finally met him, after which his father stole his kidney. He gets pretty adamant and yells during his speech.
2. During his second flashback, Locke leaves Helen's house, claiming he can't sleep in a strange bed. Where does Locke go after leaving her house?

Answer: To his father's house

Locke is shown waiting outside his father's house, sitting in his car and drinking coffee. His father gets in the passenger side of the car and confronts Locke, telling him he knows Locke's been spying on him and asks him what he wants. When Locke tells his father that he just wants to know why he used Locke to get his kidney, his father replies "you needed a father figure and I needed a kidney. And that's what happened."
3. In this episode, how long does Desmond say he has been on the island?

Answer: Three years

Immediately after Kate leaves to get Sayid, Jack asks Desmond to explain how he got on the island. Desmond says that three years ago he was on a race around the world when his boat crashed and someone named Kelvin brought him down into the hatch. He explains that they entered the code into the computer to "save the world," but Kelvin died and he has been entering the code and saving the world by himself.
4. Helen gets Locke a gift for their six-month "anniversary" in Locke's third flashback. What is this gift?

Answer: A key to her place

In this scene, Helen reveals to Locke that she followed him the previous night and knows that he waits outside the house, which she surmises to be his father's house. She says "You help me John, and I can help you. You just have to promise me that you're not gonna go to that place anymore." Locke agrees, takes the key, and then they kiss.
5. What is the name of the girl that gets thrown into the pit with Michael, Jin, and Sawyer?

Answer: Ana Lucia

Ana Lucia is thrown into the pit after the other three. She reveals that she was in the back half of the plane when it crashed. She ends up taking Sawyer's gun and being lifted from the pit to safety, and we find out that she was sent into the pit merely to gain information. We saw Ana Lucia near the end of season one, in a flashback where she was talking to Jack at the airport before their flight left.
6. When Locke is alone inside the hatch, what does he yell while picking up the tools he dropped?

Answer: "What am I supposed to do?"

When Desmond failed to fix the computer, he packed some items and left so he could get as far away from the hatch as he could. Jack left shortly after Desmond did, in pursuit of him, telling Locke that he was on his own. Locke tells Jack that this wasn't supposed to happen, then returns to the computer where he knocks over the toolbox.

When he puts the tools back in the box, he yells out "What am I supposed to do?"
7. Which of the following does not happen in Locke's fourth flashback?

Answer: Helen slaps him in the face.

Helen rams into Locke's car, then grabs his keys from the ignition and throws them over his dad's fence into his property. When she asks him to choose between his father and her, Locke says that he can't. Helen tells him he doesn't have to be alone, and advises him to make a leap of faith.

The scene ends with Locke taking Helen's hand, seemingly in acceptance. Faith is something Locke has been lecturing Jack about throughout the series.
8. When Jack catches up to Desmond in the jungle, they have a brief conversation. With which statement does Desmond conclude their conversation, which he also used in a flashback from the first episode of season two when he and Jack were running in a stadium?

Answer: "See you in another life."

In the first episode, the last thing Desmond said to Jack was "see you in another life," which indeed happened when they met here on the island. Jack catches up to Desmond in the jungle because Desmond trips, and it is at this point that Desmond recognizes Jack and asks him about the girl that Jack had married. Right before Desmond takes off running again, he repeats this statement.
9. When the computer is running again, Locke nearly enters the final number of the code incorrectly. What number does he type?

Answer: 32

When the power is restored, Locke sits down and enters the code into the computer. Hurley recognizes that Locke is about to enter the wrong number, and doesn't say anything about it. Just before Locke presses "execute," Jack informs him that the correct number is 42, not 32, since Desmond had just told him the code.
10. At the end of the episode, which person presses the "execute" button?

Answer: Jack

Jack and Locke get into an argument about the code. Sayid calls the argument irrelevant, and nearly presses "execute" before Jack calls him off, telling him that it's not real. Jack believes nothing will happen if the timer reaches zero, while Locke argues that they should continue entering the code before the timer reaches zero. During their debate, Locke uses the exact phrase Helen told him, it's a "leap of faith." Jack eventually presses execute, and we see the timer changing from one second to zero before it resets to 108.
