Gary Mitchell was played by actor Gary Lockwood. "Star Trek" was not the only well-known science fiction that he's appeared in. He was also astronaut Frank Poole in the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey".

Spock reacted by raising one eyebrow, as if to say, "They don't know me very well, do they?" The Nazis considered him to be of an inferior race.

The children were understandably suspicious of adults, because all the adults of their planet went violently insane due to a disease. Kirk had to make one of his famous speeches to convince them he was not an enemy (although the kids beat him up a bit first).

Anan 7 called Kirk a barbarian because Kirk was destroying their planet's method of combat: fighting wars with computer simulations and then executing the projected casualties. The word "Barbarian" has not always been an insult. Originally, it simply referred to a person who is not a Greek.

They were arguing over whether to accept the planet Coridan into the Federation. The argument was stopped by others, but later they argued again. The Tellarite Ambassador then lunged at Sarek, but Sarek easily knocked him back with his superior Vulcan strength.

Lt. Boma felt that Spock was heartless for leaving a dead crewman behind without a burial. Scotty responded to the insult by saying "That's enough!" Junior officers can be quite flippant in the 23rd century.

Kirk responded by saying "I'm not a plebe!" He was determined to get some answers from Finnegan about the strange events that were happening to his crew. It turned out that the planet was one big amusement park! A "plebe" is a cadet or military trainee.

Spock and Kirk then duked it out in the transporter room, broke a few things, until finally Spock snapped out of the spell of the alien spores. Then Kirk and Spock rescued the rest of the crew.

The episode illustrated the utter absurdity of racism. One of the aliens was white on the right side, the other was white on the left side. Because of this, they were sworn enemies. The two aliens fought each other on the Enterprise, and then returned to their home planet, where they continued to fight even though everyone else was dead.
