Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of the models, Morgan, tried the patience of every designer on the show. What caper did she NOT pull during the project?

Answer: Showed up intoxicated

She actually wore Kevin's swimsuit out to a club after the "Elle" magazine party - but BEFORE the runway interrogation! She ripped some seams and could well have ruined things for Kevin. She was saved from elimination many times because the designers believed she was a great walker on the runway.
2. The seventh episode was another team effort. Working from the theme "The Year 2055", the designers were to create a unified collection, with each designer contributing one garment. What material were they asked to use?

Answer: Vintage clothes

"Deconstructionism" was the technique - since the designers were working in a neutral palette, the vintage clothes were chosen primarily for texture. There were supposed to be muslin "pods" which were to be worn as overcoats, tying each garment to the theme. With time at a premium, this element was eliminated - causing the judges to question the unity of the collection.
3. A famous fashion designer served as a judge on almost every episode. Who is he?

Answer: Michael Kors

He is famous for designing uncomplicated women's sportswear, and has had his eponymous label since 1981. Kors' comments at the runway interrogations were often quite harsh and unsparing of the designers' feelings.
4. The designers went on a field trip for project number eight. In order to better understand the needs of their client, the designers were asked to work there for a day. What job did they do?

Answer: Delivered mail

They were asked to create a new, updated uniform for the US Postal Service. Kara did a great job and won, hands-down, for her practical yet attractive submission.
5. Jay experienced a potential crisis in the eighth challenge, one that could have eliminated him from competition. What happened to him?

Answer: His model was a no-show

Jay's model, Julia, called to say that she wouldn't be coming in time for the runway show (she was not irresponsible, just booked at another job that went over time). Austin agreed to fill in as Jay's model at the last minute, which was very nice of him considering the close competition at this point.
6. Not only did she triumph in the Banana Republic challenge, Wendy really grabbed another big win when she designed a red carpet look for a celebrity client. Who is this famous woman?

Answer: Nancy O'Dell

Nancy O'Dell, host of the "Access Hollywood" show, was to wear the winning design to the Grammy awards. She did end up wearing the outfit, but it had been SIGNIFICANTLY modified - quite a disappointment.
7. Which fabric store did the designers visit before almost every work day in order to buy their supplies?

Answer: Mood

Seeing the footage of the supply excursions makes me wonder how anyone finds ANYTHING in that store - luckily, it looked like each contestant was given their own sales assistant during the whirlwind shopping sprees.
8. Which of the Final Four designers was cut just before the contestants won the right to show at Fashion Week?

Answer: Austin Scarlett

Though it was not promoted or revealed on "Project Runway", Austin's collection *did* show at Bryant Park after all, as a necessary decoy for the sly fans who tried to investigate the winners through coverage of fashion week itself!
9. An accessory caused great tension between the designers during the preparations for the final shows. Which item of clothing caused the drama?

Answer: Shoes

Kara Saun had used her connections to get expensive designer shoes donated to her, while the other two had to make do with Goodwill finds. They cried foul, and Kara Saun almost had to send barefoot models down the runway!
10. The winner of "Project Runway" took NYC by storm in the tents at Bryant Park during fashion week. What was the name of the collection that won?

Answer: Stereotype

"Stereotype" was the name of Jay McCarroll's winning collection, in which each model wore color-coordinated headphones with her outfit. The collection was inspired by the way different music fans express themselves through clothing.
