1. "Oh, Holy Interruptus, Batman!"

Answer: C.J

The episode opened with C.J having various conversations with staff members. She started talking to Josh on the phone about Cal Tech physicists and the theory of everything and Toby told her that, "The Bureau of Labor Statistics is going to report that the CPI jump 0.7%...is the biggest one month increase since the Bureau began tracking prices in '52." Leo then bumps into her and tells her the same thing Toby did and also tells her to mention something about the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

She finally meets up with Sam who tells her that Congressman Grant Samuels has died or "I'm almost certain he's dead." She then finally enters the briefing room.
2. "I can't believe I didn't commit that piece of arcane information to memory."

Answer: Leo

The President throughout the episode was obsessed that Elliot Roush was running for the school board in Manchester. He told Leo that he beat Roush in his first Congressional campaign.

Sam was showing his friend Tom Jordan and his wife Sarah around the West Wing and takes them into the Mural Room. Sam encourages Tom to run for Grant Samuels place in Congress but by the end of the episode, the White House pulls their support as it comes apparent that Tom likes white jurists for his black defendants.

Charlie crosses the line with the President in this episode. Charlie still mixed up about the shooting loses it and snaps when the President won't make campaign calls from the Oval Office.

Throughout the episode, Toby was trying to come up with ways to investigate hate groups without going against the Bill of Rights and first Amendment. C.J brings Toby's frustration to a head when she questions Toby that he wants "to lock up everybody with a white sheet?" Toby replies, "Yes, I do. Yes, I do. Who has a problem with that? Bring 'em to me, right now. YES I DO!"

The President told C.J if anyone in the press room wanted to do a story on Elliot Roush then he would comment on the record. C.J advised him that the President cannot take sides on this issue and he had to concede that Roush would probably win.

The President discovered an egg cream in this episode and Toby told him that it was invented in Brooklyn. Toby told the President that he may have to take a leave of absence and the President said he could have fifteen minutes. He assured Toby that things would get better.

C.J, Sam, Toby and Donna went to visit Josh in the evening and sat outside on the steps of his building. Josh said to C.J, "Aha! You'd thought I'd forget about it, didn't you? Banner headline, 5 days ago. Model for the Unified Theory solved. Banner headline in the New York Times. You said it wasn't going to be news." C.J had refused to lead with it at the beginning of the episode.

C.J had bought Josh a pair of pajamas and he was wearing them that evening. The pajamas were far too big for him.

Sam reported the election results to the others, "Twelve races, in none of them did the incumbent win. In none of them, did the party that previously held the seat win. You know how it went? Seven to five." The house stayed the same and Josh asked Toby, "What do you say about a government that goes out of its way to protect even citizens that try to destroy it?" Toby replies with "God Bless America" and all the others follow him in saying "God Bless America".
