Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What region did the first episode take place in?

Answer: West Yorkshire

The first episode occurred at Bonapartes in Silsden, which became infamous after Gordon Ramsay got sick over a rancid scallop. The restaurant was revisited the next year, but not before the owner filed a lawsuit claiming that scenes were staged. Ramsay was awarded 75,000 pounds in a libel case against the London Evening Standard.
2. What restaurant was owned by a former actor?

Answer: Ruby Tate's

Ruby Tate's was the Brighton restaurant owned by Alan Love, whose career nosedived after appearing in the 1980 box office bomb "The Apple." Ruby Tate's was best known for serving old seafood at high prices, the lazy staff, and that strange artwork on the wall. Ruby Tate's was renamed Love's Fish Restaurant.
3. Where was Clubway 41?

Answer: Blackpool

Clubway 41 was given a top honor, but few seemed to know its location. Ramsay thought the experience of salmon and strawberry salads was stupid. The restaurant was renamed Jacksons during taping.
4. Morgans was the family-run restaurant run badly. During its renovation, wives of members of a well-known Premiership team visited. What team was it?

Answer: Liverpool

Members of a popular British soap opera and the wives of Liverpool players (including Louise Owen) stopped by. During Ramsay's initial visit, the only thing he liked was a sticky toffee pudding. Otherwise, the setting was marred by lazy staff, bickering sisters, and food that didn't seem to make sense, such as apricots with mashed potatoes.
5. How many restaurants during the show were featured outside the UK?

Answer: 2

Piccolo Teatro, a vegetarian restaurant in Paris, was run by a former Scottish waitress. La Parra de Burriana in Spain was known for its awful dishes such as prawns in chocolate sauce and chicken stuffed with bananas that upset a local donkey sanctuary.
6. What restaurant was known for part of its staff having criminal records?

Answer: The Granary

The Granary opened as an exclusive club, but the idea was abandoned. The restaurant supposedly had a modern British menu. The Granary was the final episode of season five.
7. What Scottish town was home to La Riviera, later renamed Abstract?

Answer: Inverness

La Riviera was an attempt to get fine French cuisine in Inverness. The owner was a person who started out bringing fast food chains to Scotland. Its menu was complex and extravagant for its setting. The restaurant was revisited and later renamed Abstract.
8. What town contained Oscar's, an Irish restaurant with an alcoholic chef and very long wait times?

Answer: Nantwich

Ramsay went to Oscars and waited a long time for a carbonara that had vinegar. The restaurant went to an Irish theme.
9. What East Sussex town contained a soul food restaurant?

Answer: Brighton

Mama Cheri's Soul Food Shack was owned by a transplanted Americans whose restaurant food was good enough for Ramsay to return with a clean plate. Mama Cheri's was later expanded and renamed Mama Cheri's Big House. Despite the progress, expansion, and full booking, Ramsay had to help the restaurant break out of its old habits of precooking chicken wings.
10. This restaurant can be defined by this line: Campaign for Real Gravy.

Answer: Fenwick Arms

The Fenwick Arms was run by a chef in his 60s who worked 120 hours a week, hoarded plates, made awful sauces, and had a menu that made no sense (pate and lettuce topped with a hot liquid). It was supposed to be an English pub, but the offerings had nothing that would be offered. The restaurant was revisited with staff morale at a low and a number who were planning to quit.
11. What East Midlands' city was home to The Curry Lounge?

Answer: Nottingham

The Curry Lounge would boast about its runner-up status, its ridiculous do-it-yourself menu, and its nan stands. Ramsay had the menu trimmed from 130 dishes made from a few sauces to about 30 traditional Indian offerings.
12. What was the previous occupation of the owner of The Fish and Anchor?

Answer: Boxer

The Welsh establishment had a mishmashed menu with recipes taken from cookbooks and a feuding couple. The transformation had its menu changed to homemade Italian dishes.
13. The Walnut Tree Inn lost its Michelin Star during taping.

Answer: True

The Abergavenny, Wales, establishment was suffering from a stale menu, high prices, no head chef, and an ownership change. During the restaurant's 40th anniversary celebration, the original owner attended the party. The Michelin Star is considered a high honor in the European culinary world.

Another restaurant that lost an honor was the Sandgate Hotel, whose inefficient staff cost the place its Automobile Association rosette.
14. What was adjacent to the Moore Place restaurant?

Answer: Golf course

Moore Place had a restaurant that was usually very empty. The menu was changed from prepackaged everything to an American-themed menu.
15. The Derby restaurant La Gondola was bought by a woman who had a half million pounds from a ________.

Answer: divorce settlement

The owner was married in La Gondola. She had said the only way the restaurant would stay alive was with the handful of special occasions held during the year and the few elderly customers. Ramsay regarded the place as a time warp before its renovation.

After the fifth season aired, Ramsay set a challenge for a culinary makeover for an entire town.
