"Valen was the greatest of us. A thousand years ago he came from nowhere, formed the Grey Council, and brought peace to our people. They say he was a Minbari, not born of Minbari." -- Lennier, "Passing Through Gethsemane" -- We learn in "War Without End" that Jeffrey Sinclair, the first commander of Babylon 5, was transformed into the Minbari Valen in the same way as Delenn's transformation.

He then traveled back through time with Babylon 4 to form the Rangers, defeat the Shadows, and unite the Minbari castes.

After being named Earth Ambassador to Minbar, Sinclair became the first human leader of the Rangers. Upon Sinclair's departure to the past, Delenn was named Ranger One (Anla'shok Na in Minbari), although her appointment was initially disputed by Neroon. We see in "Sleeping in Light" that Sheridan was named Ranger One after he no longer occupied the position of President of the Interstellar Alliance, and we see Ivanova accepting the honor following the disappearance of Sheridan at the end of that episode.

Marcus arrives on Babylon 5 to request aid for the Ranger training camp on Zagros VII that is threatened by the Centauri. Marcus remains on Babylon 5 throughout the Shadow War until he dies to save Ivanova's life during the Earth Civil War. "And according to one of our units on the border of Centauri space, they've continued massing their fleet. We don't know why. Maybe they expect a counter attack, it's hard to say. And they have much to be concerned about.

The White Star seen in "Matters of Honor" was only the prototype of a whole fleet of ships operated at first by the Minbari religious caste, and later by the Rangers. Lennier: "The White Star is based on Vorlon organic technology, it learns from experience, changes, evolves.

The skin of the ship now uses the Vorlon defense system. Most of the energy is reflected away, leaving only the physical impact." Sheridan: "Well, as my great grandfather used to say: 'Cool.'" -- Lennier and Sheridan, "War Without End"
