Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first week of competition, the queens had to take a sexy photo shoot and create outfits using which materials?

Answer: Dollar store products

In the first episode of the race, nine drag queens gathered and met one another in their backstage workshop before meeting with Ru in person. All nine, dressed in outfits showcasing their personas, were then told that they would begin with a sexy photo shoot, soaking wet and atop a car.

The major challenge of the week was to create outfits using dollar store items and thrift store clothing. Nina Flowers ended up winning with an inspiring design while the judges thought that Victoria 'Pork Chop' Parker's costume was too tacky (and looked like it did, indeed, come from a dollar store). 'Pork Chop' and Akashia were told to lipsynch for their lives to RuPaul's own "Supermodel" and the former was asked to sashay away.
2. In week two, the queens split into two teams and had to lipsynch to songs by which girl group?

Answer: Destiny's Child

Coming into week two with only eight queens, everyone was asked to convey emotion with digital photos. Ultimately, Ongina and Akshia won this mini-challenge and got to pick teams for the subsequent major event. Both teams would need to organize choreography, hair, make-up, and costumes to perform one of two Destiny's Child hits on the main stage (with Michelle Williams as a guest judge).

The team consisting of Ongina, Nina Flowers, Shannel, and Rebecca Glasscock took the win singing "Say My Name" while the other team (Akashia, Tammie Brown, BeBe Zahara Benet, and Jade) lost singing "Independent Women Pt. 1".

The lipsynching in this episode was to Michelle Williams' own "We Break the Dawn" and Akashia was asked to stay since Tammie Brown gave up on the competition, opting not to fake-sing.
3. Week three saw the queens emulating which famous female mogul by reporting fake news, promoting products, and conducting interviews?

Answer: Oprah Winfrey

Ru told the final seven that their next challenge would be to reflect Oprah, walking in her footsteps. This would involve creating an Oprah-inspired look and then taking it in front of the camera to read a new report, sell a hair-dryer, and then conduct an interview with Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott.

Some queens excelled while others were simply too rude. For the first time, the queens were told to bring their own outfits to the runway where the judges pitted Akashia and Shannel against each other in a lipsynch battle to Whitney Houston's "The Greatest Love of All".

Despite losing her Medusa headpiece during the song, Shannel apparently showed enough vulnerability to stay in the competition while Akashia, after three weeks in the bottom two, was asked to sashay away.
4. In week four, the six remaining queens advertized Mac Cosmetics' Viva Glam line, supporting which of these causes?

Answer: AIDS/HIV charities

Starting this week with no mirrors, the queens were told to do each others' makeup (a task won by Jade) before dressing up and promoting AIDS/HIV awareness in the Mac Viva Glam campaign, much like RuPaul once did. Ru felt that Ongina was the winner of the challenge and was shocked to hear that she had contracted HIV prior to the show.

This was the first week in which immunity was not granted to the challenge winner. In the end, Jade and Rebecca Glasscock were asked to lipsynch for their lives to The Eurythmics' "Would I Lie to You?" and RuPaul chose to retain Rebecca, fearing that Jade was on a downward slope.
5. After deliberations away from the judging table, Ru opted to send which short, bald, perky contestant home in week five?

Answer: Ongina

During week five, with only five queens left, everyone was told to get fit and they were introduced to five butch female martial artists and boxers. After winning an intense physical challenge, Rebecca Glasscock was told to pair up with one of the women and then pair off the rest since everyone would be making over their respective partners to appear as a mother-daughter combination, exhibiting the original queen's personal style.

In addition, each woman would have to lipsynch to Beyonce's "Freakum Dress".

In the end, BeBe Zahara Benet and Ongina allegedly missed the mark and, after lipsynching to Britney Spears' "Stronger", RuPaul had to leave the judging panel to make a decision. Ongina ended up going home despite being one of the strongest contestants, simply because BeBe outshone her during their head-to-head fake singing task.
6. During the sixth week of the competition, which queen in the final four nominated themselves to be sent home?

Answer: Shannel

After a quick vogue-off in week six, the queens were met by Ru and a representative from Absolut Vodka. Their task this week was to create three looks-- one for a high-powered business executive, one swimsuit, and one evening gown. Each one had to be themed around a particular colour inspire by different Absolut flavours.

After what the judges considered a stellar runway performance, all four queens were told to mention which of their competitors should be sent home; Shannel chose herself since she claimed she no longer wanted to be a part of the race due to harsh criticisms every week.

Despite this, she and Rebecca lipsynched to stay in the competition (to "Shackles" by Mary Mary). After this, Shannel got her wish and sashayed away.
7. Who of the following was not a guest judge during this season?

Answer: Kathy Najimy

Debra Wilson was a guest judge in week three. Known for impersonating Oprah Winfrey on "MadTV" for eight years, she judged the queens' Oprah-inspired challenges and subsequent runways.

Lucy Lawless appeared alongside Robin Antin of the Pussycat Dolls in week five, judging the queens' makeovers of manly women.

Marķa Conchita Alonso appeared week six to judge the final four queens in their Absolut-inspired runway show. This week also saw a visit from Spanish entertainer Charo during an impromptu cocktail party.
8. In the pre-finale retrospective episode, whose outfit(s) did judges Merle Ginsberg and Santino Rice deem the top fashion moments of the season?

Answer: RuPaul's

In the episode airing before the final lap of "RuPaul's Drag Race", Ru revisited some of the season's highlights and mishaps. A part of this event was the unveiling of judges Merle and Santino's top 10 fashion moments. Although Nina Flowers' 'drag-on-a-dime' outfit was the top contestant outfit on the list (reaching number two) they gave the top fashion award to the show's host for her repeated knock-out dresses on the main stage catwalk (as seen during the weekly judging sessions). What followed was a revisiting of every dress, in order, and why they were better than the others seen throughout the season.
9. Who never appeared in the bottom two throughout the competition?

Answer: Nina Flowers

In the reunion episode held after the first season finale, the girls dubbed Nina Flowers Miss Congeniality. Flowers spent the season on the high end of the competition, not once receiving a spot in the bottom two (until the last episode) and being in the top two (or at least the higher half of the queens) every week. Nina Flowers was also given two slots on Merle and Santino's list of top fashion moments-- one for her 'drag-on-a-dime' outfit and another for her varied looks in the first six weeks of competition.
10. Which queen became the winner of "RuPaul's Drag Race" season 1?

Answer: BeBe Zahara Benet

After seven weeks, the final three were asked to appear in the video for RuPaul's "Cover Girl (Put the Bass in Your Walk)"; Ru was also given time to speak to each of the three queens privately to determine why they wanted to win the drag race. In the end, Rebecca was eliminated as second runner-up due to a lack of experience and confidence.

After a final lipsynch for their lives, RuPaul deemed BeBe Zahara Benet the next drag superstar and winner of the $20,000 grand prize
