Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Cook is set up as the rebel of the group from the start of series 3. During the summary of prohibited activities read out on their first day of college, Cook made a point of doing as many of these things as possible before the day was over. Which of these did he not do?

Answer: Steal a teacher's car

Other prohibited activities outlined by the head teacher of Roundview College are; consumption of pornography, use of drugs on the premises, teacher abuse, and sexual intercourse of any sort. She tells us that anyone found doing any of these things will be immediately expelled. However, as expected, Cook was not caught.

There was more to Cook's actions is episode 1 than just being rebellious, as he was told that anyone who can perform a list of prohibited acts would be able to "get to know" Effy. Cook achieved his goal at the end of the episode.

Indeed, Cook is seen as a crude character and shows this during the welcome assembly when he showed everyone his tattoo when asked. Little did the teacher know that the tattoo was on his nether regions. This sends the new and rather jumpy teacher over the edge.
2. In episode 2, Cook celebrated his 17th birthday. Which song is Cook heard singing in both the first and last scenes of this episode?

Answer: "Ace of Spades" - Motorhead

In true Cook fashion, the festivities began with a lengthy session at the pub. Whilst 17 year olds drinking in a pub during the day may sometimes cause problems, this pub is run by Cook's uncle Keith. Cook described his uncle as a legend after Keith left to "see a man about a dog...a dog filled with drugs."

As JJ, Freddie, Effy, Emily, Katie, and Pandora sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" rather unenthusiastically, Cook downed pint after pint of beer and did 7 consecutive shots of tequila. As the pièce de résistance, he polished off a huge chocolate cake made by Emily all by himself.
3. In search of a "real" party to carry on celebrating his 17th, Cook and friends then attended an engagement party. Which actor, who is known for his part as Gareth in "The Office", plays the part of gangster, Johnny White - father of the bride to be?

Answer: Mackenzie Crook

Cook was initially denied entrance to the party an account of him being underage, it being a private party, and the fact that the bouncer did not like him.

Freddie's sister, who is friends with the bride to be (Kayleigh) came out to see the group, and Kayleigh decided to let them in as Cook was in possession of drugs. Planning to take the drugs in the toilet, only a few manage to get some, before Pandora eats the remainder. Cook, believing that he will be able to sleep with Kayleigh, called his uncle for more of his "special mix". Kayleigh, however, rejected Cook's advances and told him that he must "impress her". Cook therefore mounted the stage and performed a love song, with his own entertaining twist. Whilst some found this amusing, Johnny White saw this as Cook taking the attention away from him and his daughter and so smashed a bottle over his head. Cook later fell into some members of the Heston gang and this resulted in an all-out brawl between the Hestons and the Whites.
4. Cook had another run in with Johnny White at the end of the episode. After being punched in the face several times, what did Johnny say to Cook?

Answer: "Next time I see you, you're dead"

Cook found Johnny in a compromising position at an adult club and, after tormenting him and taking pictures, Cook became violent as Johnny insulted his family. JJ manages to calm Cook down and they left following Johnny's death threat.

Cook's actions in the episode caused many to see him in a different light - Katie calling him "repulsive" and Freddie claiming he was "tired" of him.
5. Johnny White was later forced to leave Cook (and the others) alone after losing a contest to Thomas. What contest was this?

Answer: Chili-eating

Johnny White ran into the group in an underground club. He was unhappy as they are selling weed and so taking away his business. He therefore threatened Thomas with violence, before turning his attentions to Cook. Thomas intervened and a challenge was put forth to see who could eat the most chilies without flinching.

The chilies Johnny produced, he told us, were the hottest in the world, and he proceeded to eat one with apparent ease, before offering the plate to Thomas. Thomas retaliated by shoving a large handful into his mouth, before telling us that his mum grew them "back home".

When the time came for Johnny to match this feat, he could not, as his bowels have different plans.
6. In episode 6, Cook decided to run for student president. Against which other character did he run?

Answer: Naomi

Naomi was convinced by Emily to run for student president on the grounds that she "knows about politics".

In the face of crude advances from Cook, Naomi told him that he was as likely to sleep with her as he was to become democratically elected student president of the college. Cook took this as a challenge and so began his campaign. Cook used his charisma and, with a little help from JJ, eventually won the student election. He, showing his "nice" side, respected Naomi's wishes that she still did not wish to sleep with him. Following his victory, he declared chaos and the students began to riot.
7. As you may have gathered, Cook was known for sleeping around. Which girl did Cook sleep with, first on the morning after Pandora's party and again in episode 7 in his student room?

Answer: Pandora

At her party, Pandora was upset that her boyfriend, Thomas, had left the country. She had told Cook that her friends were supposed to show her how to have sex, but didn't, so Cook offered. Pandora was also spotted coming out of Cook's room by JJ, who later denied seeing anything when questioned by Cook.
8. Having taken some of JJ's medication before a night out in episode 7, which of these things did Cook *not* do?

Answer: Set off the club's fire alarm

The medication was given to Cook, who wanted to get some pills before a night out. JJ did not know the affect it would have and, along with Freddie, had to jump in to help Cook after he started a fight with a large group of lads.

Lying battered and bruised in the club, Cook now became truthful (a side affect of the pills) and told Freddie of how Effy loved him. He also revealed that he had slept with Pandora to an angry Thomas, who claimed that Cook "doesn't deserve friends".
9. Cook, after the rest of the group left for a night in the woods, found out he was not invited and so turned up anyway to scare them. What type of reception did Cook encounter?

Answer: Hostility

The group were terrified as their bags were missing and they heard strange noises around them. As it turned out, it was Cook who stole the bags and who was making the noises they heard. As he ran out of the woods, he was knocked down by Effy, who hit him with a log. Several members of the group then told Cook that he was unwelcome and that he should leave. Cook's response to this was some dishing out of home truths, such as how he had been sleeping with Pandora.
10. After this, Cook left with Effy to stay with his dad. Cook's dad entered him in a race. What was the prize if Cook won?

Answer: His dad's bar debt cleared

We are told that Cook's dad's debt was over £300 and we see that he had become so desperate for drink that he would eat a large jar of mustard just for a half-pint of beer.

The race was the Solstice Steeplechase and Cook faced the undefeated champion, Donny - son of the bar landlord. If Cook lost, his dad lost his boat. Cook also challenged Freddie to the race after he arrived. The winner would "win" Effy.

The race was given a humorous twist as the competitors had to carry an elderly person on their backs. Cook, although given promises by his dad, finds him about to leave town without him. When he tries to stop his dad, he is met with the harsh reality that his dad never wanted him.
