Ruth Connell played Rowena, the witch who escaped with the Book of the Damned at the end of season 10. Crowley's mother, she spent the season searching for power, attempting to recruit members to a "mega coven" in "The Bad Seed," then attempting to ally herself with Lucifer in "O Brother Where Art Thou" and "The Devil in the Details." Lucifer, referring to her as a "groupie," responded by killing her - but she came back, due to her witchcraft.

In the last episodes of the season, she assisted the Winchesters in their fight to stop the Darkness - playing up to God, of course.

Answer: Mark Pellegrino

Mark Pellegrino played Lucifer. The Devil was locked in the cage in Hell, where he had been ever since Sam trapped him there in "Swan Song," in season 5. He sent visions to Sam to try to trick him into releasing him, hoping to possess the younger Winchester brother again. But, while the Devil succeeded in getting Sam to speak with him, then dragged him into a cage with him (thanks to a double-cross by Rowena) and took Sam on a freaky version of "This is Your Life," Sam did not let Lucifer in. Unfortunately, Castiel did let him in.

While the actor only appeared in two episodes, his ability to play project menace and instill fear in the other character and viewers was profound.

Answer: Emily Swallow

Emily Swallow played Amara, also known as "the Darkness." Death warned the brothers in season 10's "Brother's Keeper" that the Darkness would be released if the Mark of Cain was removed from Dean. The Mark was removed and she was released, first appearing before Dean in "Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire." She proceeded to wreak havoc in her efforts to get revenge on her brother, God.

The brothers then spent much of season 11 trying to correct their error in setting her free.

In "Safe House," Sam and Dean hunted a soul eater. It turned out that Rufus and Bobby had hunted the same monster "a handful of years ago." The episode jumped back and forth, as both sets of hunters followed the same path, culminating in a scene where Bobby and Dean see each other in the house before Sam is able to save his brother and the others trapped there, including Bobby.

Answer: Jensen Ackles

Jensen Ackles played Dean Winchester. He spent much of the season disturbed by a connection to the Darkness he could not control. She told him of their connection in "Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire," and he felt it every time they met. Her form even appeared to him in "Love Hurts." Dean stayed close to his brother throughout the season, "saving people, hunting things," and in the end, he took on the bomb to stop Amara. But, before he killed himself, he spoke with her, and was able to convince her to spare the world and speak to her brother.

Answer: Kathryn Newton

Kathryn Newton played Claire Novak. In "Don't You Forget About Me," she was living with Jody Mills and Alex Jones, and she became convinced that a monster was attacking people. Since Jody did not believe her, she called Dean and asked for help. The Winchesters came to help.

It turned out that the monsters were vampires, and the main vampire was targeting Alex and her family, seeking revenge on Alex for her role in the vampires turning him.

Answer: Jared Padalecki

Jared Padalecki played Sam. He was infected by the Darkness' poison in "Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire." In "Form and Void," he used his hunting skills and research abilities to figure out that holy fire would remove the poison. He then saved himself and lured the other victims to him so he could save them, as well.

He then spent the first half of the season experiencing visions that he believed were from God. Instead, they were from Lucifer, trying to trick him into freeing the Devil from the cage. Sam resisted the Devil in "O Brother Where Art Thou" and "The Devil in the Details," and spent the second half of the season working with his brother to save people, hunt things, and stop the Darkness.

Answer: Brianna Buckmaster

Brianna Buckmaster played Sheriff Donna Hanscum. In "Plush," the sheriff called the brothers when someone was killed by a person wearing a bunny head, and the head would not come off. The brothers first thought it was a cursed object, but when the attacks continued, they discovered they were hunting a ghost.

They destroyed all the masks, stopping the ghost and saving people. This was Donna's third episode. She first appeared in season 9's "The Purge," and later in season 10's "Hibbing 911."

Answer: Misha Collins

Misha Collins played the angel Castiel. At the beginning of the season, he was incapacitated by Rowena's curse. Once the brothers captured Rowena and forced her to cure him in "The Bad Seed," he attempted to stop the Darkness, but found she was too strong. Dispirited, he agreed to let Lucifer possess him in "The Devil in the Details," believing it was the only way to save the world from the Darkness.

At the end of the season, Lucifer was expelled, and Castiel was in control again.

Samantha Smith played Mary Winchester, the character killed when Sam and Dean were six months and four years old. After Dean assisted Amara in reuniting with her brother, she left him a gift - his mother. The season finale, "Alpha and Omega" ended with Sam being shot and Dean encountering his long-deceased mother, looking very much alive.

Lisa Berry played Billie, a reaper, in season 11. She first appeared in "Form and Void," singing a haunting rendition of "O Death." She made it clear to Sam that she expected to reap him and his brother. Later in the season, though, she assisted the brothers in their efforts to defeat the Darkness in "Alpha and Omega."

Dee Wallace played Mildred Baker, a resident in a retirement home in "Into the Mystic." The brothers met her when they investigated a suspicious death. They started out thinking they were hunting a ghost, but eventually discovered it was a banshee preying on the vulnerable. Mildred and Eileen, a hunter/Men of Letters legacy whose parents were killed by the banshee, assisted the brothers in stopping the banshee. Dee Wallace is horror movie actress royalty, having appeared in "The Hills Have Eyes," "The Howling," and "Cujo." She is also well known for playing the mother in "E.T.

The Extra-Terrestrial."

Answer: Mark Sheppard

Mark Sheppard played Crowley. He showed up impersonating a priest in "Form and Void" where he first encountered Amara, and her power. He spent several episodes attempting to parent her, starting with "The Bad Seed," but eventually found he could not control her. Later, after Lucifer was released by Castiel, he found himself imprisoned and tortured by the Devil in Hell during the middle part of the season.

At the end, though, he joined the Winchesters to help stop the Darkness.

Answer: Curtis Armstrong

Curtis Armstrong played Metatron, the scribe of God, and the angel who was the enemy of the Winchesters and Castiel for several seasons, wreaking havoc by stealing Castiel's grace, causing the Angels' fall from Heaven, and killing Dean. In the end, he found a small amount of redemption, sacrificing himself so Sam and Lucifer/Castiel could escape from Amara in "All in the Family."

Answer: Rob Benedict

Rob Benedict played Chuck Shurley. Chuck was introduced as a prophet in season 4, disappeared and was assumed killed at the end of season 5. There were hints that the character was actually God through the seasons, but that was not confirmed until "Don't Call Me Shurley." Sam was carrying the amulet that glows in God's presence.

It began glowing, and the brothers looked up to see Chuck. The brothers worked with God over the next few episodes, seeking to save the world from the Darkness.
