Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What were the brothers hunting in "The Chitters"?

Answer: Bisan

The brothers were hunting bisan, which were described as cicada spirits. The creatures hatch from underground every twenty-seven years, take over bodies so they can mate, and kill the hosts. The brothers teamed up with two other hunters, one of whom (Jesse) saw one of the creatures take his brother when he was a child.
2. Chuck Shurley's pen name was Carver Edlund. What was his other identity, revealed in "Don't Call Me Shurley"?

Answer: God

Chuck's pen name, Carver Edlund, was revealed in "The Monster at the End of this Book" in season 4. The pen name was a call out to two of the show's writers; Jeremy Carver and Ben Edlund. When Chuck disappeared at the end of season 5, many fans speculated that he was God. Six seasons later, he was revealed to be God in "Don't Call Me Shurley."
3. What song was playing in the bar when Metatron first met Chuck?

Answer: "Good Vibrations" by The Beach Boys

"Don't Call Me Shurley" opened with Metatron digging in a dumpster for food, and actually giving his find to his dog. He and the dog were then transported to a bar, where he met Chuck. Chuck was working on his autobiography, and wanted Metatron to edit for him. "Good Vibrations" was a fun song to accompany their meeting, and was also a nice hint that a good game changer was coming.

The episode had a lot of classic rock. Later, as Metatron read God's draft, "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones played in the background.
4. Chuck was drinking from a coffee mug in "Don't Call Me Shurley." What saying was on the mug?

Answer: World's Greatest Dad

When he was beamed into the bar, Metatron - and the viewers - saw the mug first, before seeing Chuck. This was a fun clue to Chuck's identity, even before he allowed Metatron to see his true form.
5. What did Dean use to iron Sam's shirt in "Don't Call Me Shurley"?

Answer: Beer

It was entertaining to watch Dean pour beer on the shirt and iron it. It was more entertaining to realize it was Sam's shirt. And, it was darned funny to watch Sam's annoyance when he smelled the beer and yelled at Dean, "Dude, quit ironing my shirts with beer."
6. What did Dean find in his brother's pocket as Sam lay dying in his arms toward the end of "Don't Call Me Shurley"?

Answer: Amulet

The amulet was last seen in season 5's "The Dark Side of the Moon," when a dejected Dean dropped it in the trash in a hotel room. Fans speculated for six seasons that Sam had retrieved it from the trash. This episode did not address that issue, but it did explain that the reason the amulet had never glowed before was that God had turned it off. Once God turned it back on, it glowed when God came to save the town and everyone in it, including Sam - and the glowing amulet led the brothers to God.
7. What was the name of the folk song sung by Chuck in "Don't Call Me Shurley"?

Answer: Fare Thee Well (Dink's Song)

Chuck sang "Fare Thee Well," as Metatron finished reading his book, looking sad and stunned, and as Sam and Dean discovered the amulet, and Sam and the town were saved. The music and lyrics were the perfect accompaniment, particularly, "One of these days, won't be long, you'll call my name, and I'll be gone." The song was written by Bess A. Lomax and John A. Lomax.
8. In "All in the Family," why did Dean tell Chuck to "cool it" three times?

Answer: Chuck was singing in the shower

The brothers had a chat the morning after their house guest arrived. Dean asked for Chuck's location, and Sam replied, "Sleeping in, I guess." Dean asked, "Does God sleep?" Sam replied, "I know he takes really long showers." Dean interrupted, "Right! And sings too, like crappy old folk songs. I had to tell him to cool it three times." Sam asked, "You told God to cool it?" Dean replied, "Yeah - I sleep!"
9. Who did Amara kill during "All in the Family"?

Answer: Metatron

Sam, Metatron and Donatello went to rescue Lucifer/Castiel while Dean kept Amara distracted. When she realized Dean had "betrayed" her and was heading back to them, Metatron told Sam and the others to go, and he stayed behind. After the others left and he was left to face Amara alone, he attempted to stop Amara, but failed.

He then told her, "He meant well," and asked her to, "Spare the universe." She said, "Spare this," and killed him. She then went after Sam and the others, but God saved them, transporting the Impala into the bunker.
10. In "We Happy Few," the Winchesters assembled a team of unlikely allies to defeat Amara. Who was NOT part of that team?

Answer: Metatron

Metatron was killed by Amara in "All in the Family." The brothers divided up, visiting each entity left that could help God defeat "the darkness." Sam visited Rowena. She agreed, bringing several witches with her. Dean visited Crowley. The King of Hell agreed. Lucifer and Castiel went to Heaven and convinced the Angels to help.

The plan was for each supernatural group to attack, so she would be weak enough for Chuck to lock her back up.
11. What did Dean say was the "great thing about apologies" in "We Happy Few"?

Answer: You don't have to mean them

As Lucifer and Chuck attempted to talk, the brothers tried to counsel them. This led to an amusing piece of dialogue between our favorite brothers. Sam told Chuck that Lucifer wanted "an apology - and you're too concerned with being right to give him one.

But apologies aren't always about being right. Sometimes they're just about apologizing." Dean then jumped in with this gem: "Yeah. And the great thing about apologies is you don't have to mean them. I lie and tell Sam I'm sorry all the time." At Sam's annoyed look, Dean told Sam, "Sorry," then immediately smiled and told Chuck and Lucifer, "See?"
12. When Sam visited Rowena in "We Happy Few," she threatened to turn him into a _______.

Answer: moose

During this encounter, Rowena called Sam a "giant" and "big and tall," and told him she would "turn him into a moose, an actual moose." Since Crowley has called Sam a moose for years, sometimes also calling him "Bullwinkle," this was a fun insult. Insults aside, she ended up agreeing to help stop Amara.
13. In "Alpha and Omega," what song was playing during the "road so far" segment?

Answer: "Carry On Wayward Son" by Kansas

Except for season 1, when the song was used for the "road so far" segment of the penultimate episode ("Salvation"), rather than the season finale ("Devil's Trap"), "Carry On Wayward Son" has been the musical accompaniment for each season finale of "Supernatural."
14. After the big showdown, which character(s) died in "Alpha and Omega"?

Answer: Neither Chuck nor Amara

God's team, including the Winchesters, Lucifer/Castiel, Crowley and his demons, and Amara and her witches, attempted to weaken and cage Amara in "We Happy Few." They failed, and Amara wounded God, leaving him weak and dying at the beginning of "Alpha and Omega." Then, the team (with help from the reaper Billie) made a soul bomb and Dean delivered to to her, intending to kill her.

Instead of following through on his suicide mission, though, he talked to her, and convinced her to talk to her brother. Chuck and Amara made up, she cured Chuck, and the two characters left for some private family time.
15. At the end of "Alpha and Omega" which long-dead character was with Dean?

Answer: Mary

When Amara found the bunker in "We Happy Few," she searched Dean's room and saw the photo he kept of him with his mother. Later, at the end of "Alpha and Omega," she told him, "Dean, you gave me what I needed most. I want to do the same for you." She and Chuck then disappeared into black and white smoke, and Dean found himself in the dark, looking at his mother. Meanwhile, a "man of letters" woman from England named Toni got into the bunker, used a sigil to get rid of Castiel, and told Sam she was there to bring the brothers to the "old men." Sam told her Dean was dead (he and Castiel thought Dean had used the bomb to save the earth). Before he could stop her, she fired a gun at him, setting up another cliffhanger for season 12.
