Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many castaways were on each tribe at the start of this season?

Answer: Six

Touting one of the most gruelling seasons of the show to date, "Survivor" split their castaways into 'Brains, Brawns, and Beauty' like they did in season 28, "Cagayan". This meant three tribes of six people each, all of whom salvaged items off the boat at the start of their journey and departed on rafts for their beaches. 'Brains', named Chan Loh, had blue buffs; 'Brawns', named To Tang, had red buffs; 'Beauty', named Gondol, had yellow buffs.
2. This season saw the introduction of a 'Super Idol'. Was it ever used?

Answer: No

Like in previous seasons, camps featured Hidden Immunity Idols-- one per tribe. In each case, the idols were buried near the camps in locked boxes requiring keys to be opened, and those keys were also hidden around the camps. Over the course of the game, Hidden Idols ended up getting found by Tai, Jason, and Neal. People who obtained the idols also learned of a new advantage in the game, the Super Idol. If two Hidden Immunity Idols were combined, they could form an idol that could be used AFTER the votes were read instead of before.

It was never used. In fact, none of the Hidden Idols got used; two went home with their holders.
3. On Day 9, several castaways were treated for heat exhaustion. Who was removed from the game as a result?

Answer: Caleb

On Day 9, tribes were brought together for a reward challenge that involved an excessive digging portion in which tribe members needed to search through the sand to find three bags of balls for a skeeball game. The challenge, in the Cambodian sun, proved to be one of the most gruelling in "Survivor" history, forcing several castaways to require medical assistance. Tribes spent more than forty-five minutes exhausting themselves in the search and after the challenge, Debbie brought in medical to deal with heat stroke while Caleb and Cydney couldn't move once they stopped. Cydney was treated on the course while Caleb collapsed near the treeline. Caleb was pulled from the game completely when further treatment was required and he was subsequently moved to ICU and sent back to America well before the end of the game.
4. On Day 12, castaways had a Tribal Switch with one person being left out of the redivision. Who was forced into exile as a result?

Answer: Julia

Leading into what was assumed to be a Reward Challenge on Day 11, the remaining thirteen castaways were surprised that there was going to be a Tribal Swap decided by random drawing of sealed buffs. As such, the red-buffed To Tang tribe ('Brawns') was dissolved and all were divided onto Gondol or Chan Loh evenly.

The catch was that one person would randomly not be divvied onto the new tribes and they would be forced to remain at the old To Tang beach, waiting until a spot opened for them on either tribe. Julia was the 'lucky' recipient of the red buff, finding herself safe until after the next Tribal Council and joining the Gondol tribe.
5. On Day 17, the two remaining tribes merged into a single tribe of eleven players. What was the four letter name they took on as a merged tribe?

Answer: Dara

While the eleven castaways were united on the Gondol beach on Day 17, the game escalated over the coming days as new and old alliances were tested and the players launched into Individual Immunity. On Day 19, the game was shaken up once more, however, when a medic arrived at camp to check the health and wellbeing of the contestants.

It was then that the medic removed Neal from the game, believing that an infected knee wound could cause long-term health issues. He was the second evacuated player and the first member of the jury.

He also took one of the three Hidden Immunity Idols with him when he left.
6. In a unique turn, the Reward Challenge held on Day 25 actually had several reward opportunities. How many different individual winners received rewards?

Answer: Three

Though it hasn't been done in past seasons, this Reward Challenge had several rewards and several winners and while all eight remaining castaways participated with the same objectives, they could vie for one of three different rewards-- food (a bacon cheeseburger, fries, beer, and cookies), a letter from home, or an advantage.

In this challenge, the castaways would choose their reward before the challenge began and only face off against others going for that reward. Three went for advantage and food; two went for the letter. Tai, Michele, and Julia won, respectively. Tai's reward ultimately ended up being an extra vote for himself at any Tribal Council until the Final Five.

He used it on Day 32, but to little effect.
7. On Day 34, which castaway was removed from the game due to rapidly-declining health?

Answer: Joe

The story of this medical evacuation begins with the Reward Challenge on Day 33, after which Joe, Aubry, and Cydney took a trip to a spa for a night. Imbibing during a reward feast, the trio returned to camp on Day 34 at which point Joe, falling ill (likely due to the food from the reward) ended up experiencing rapidly diminishing health.

The choice was made on behalf of the medical team-- he was evacuated from the game as the third and final removed castaway, placing fifth and heading to the jury.

There was no Immunity Challenge or Tribal Council as a result.
8. The penultimate Tribal Council ended with a fire-making challenge.

Answer: True

After Michele won an exhausting Individual Immunity Challenge on Day 37, the Final Four struggled to sort out their differences going into the penultimate Tribal Council. Tai and Aubry stuck together, aiming for Cydney in light of the circumstances. To protect herself, Cydney worked together with Michele to force a tie and, because it was the Final Four, it resulted in the rare fire-making challenge to determine who would survive to make it to the Final Three. Aubry managed to complete the challenge before Cydney, securing her spot in the finals and making Cydney the last member of the jury.
9. The final Reward Challenge allowed the winner to eliminate one member from the jury. Who, as a result, was removed as a jury member?

Answer: Neal

After the penultimate Tribal Council, the Final Three went into Day 38 concerned with the potential of another vote. What they discovered was that they were going into a final Reward Challenge-- not an Immunity Challenge. The reward, however, was the opportunity to remove one of the eight jury members-- winner's choice-- from the jury altogether, cutting their vote out for any strategic purpose. Michele won the reward, eliminating Neal from the game that night out of concern that he was an assured vote for Aubry who would convince others.

It meant that only seven votes would be cast in the Final Tribal Council.
10. Which castaway was the Sole Survivor of "Survivor: Kaoh Rong"?

Answer: Michele

After one of the most difficult seasons of "Survivor" to date, the Final Three woke up on Day 39 before heading to Final Tribal Council to plead their case for the million dollar prize. After a session of questioning with the seven jury members that nitpicked the grander strategies of the contenders, Michele was the recipient of the million dollar grand prize for her relationships with the other tribemates.

She took five votes while Aubry took two and Tai took none.
