Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 11, teams flew to what Thai city for the penultimate leg of the race?

Answer: Bangkok

Starting the second-to-last leg of the race early in the morning outside the President Walmont Hotel in Lilongwe, Malawi, teams were told to fly to Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand. Once there, teams needed to make their way to Khlong Toei Market to enjoy a Thai delicacy and receive their next clue.

The food they were forced to eat ended up being trios of century eggs-- preserved duck eggs known for their distinct texture, colour, and flavour. While on the flight to Bangkok, teams made choices as to who they wanted to U-Turn in the leg to come.
2. In Leg 11, teams had two Detour options: 'Water' and what other choice?

Answer: 'Wheels'

After eating their hundred-year-old eggs, teams received the final Detour clue that they would collect for the race, a choice between 'Water' and 'Wheels'. In 'Water', teams had to memorize twelve riverside landmarks along the Chao Phraya River by riding the local longtail boats.

When they correctly placed the locations on a map at the starting station they could get their next clue. In 'Wheels', teams instead headed to a tuk tuk garage to rebuild and outfit a tuk tuk from scratch. Tom and Tyler and Viv and Joey completed 'Water'; Jasmin and Jerome and Tim and Rod completed 'Wheels'.
3. During the eleventh leg of the race, which team was U-Turned?

Answer: Tom and Tyler

Upon completion of the Detour, teams were directed to Sathon Pier to locate the U-Turn board and discover who received the most votes to take on the extra task. As it turned out, all three other teams voted for Tom and Tyler to take on the second Detour task, so they were forced to head to the tuk tuk garage and finish 'Wheels' in addition to 'Water'. Everyone else was able to head onwards, receiving a Road Block clue next.
4. During the Thai Road Block in Leg 11, teams completed a task associated with which of these?

Answer: Dentistry

Opening their Road Block clues at the Sathon Pier, teams needed to determine who would be 'ready for a mouthful'. In this task, the selected teammate needed to enter the Kudi Khao Community Center and help fit three locals with dentures based on their dental needs and from mixed sets of dentures waiting at each station. Tim, Joey, Tyler, and Jerome grinned and bore this task before collecting their next clue.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 11 (in Thailand)?

Answer: Tom and Tyler

After the Road Block, teams headed to the location of their next Pit Stop at Wat Suwannaram, but before they could check in they needed to intricately gold leaf an entire statue of Ganesh as an offering and bring it with them to the mat. Leading for most of the leg, Tim and Rod claimed a first place prize, winning themselves a trip for two to the Northern Territory from Holidays Australia, Discover Northern Territory, and Jetstar.

They were followed by Viv and Joey in second and, coming in from behind, Jasmin and Jerome in third.

In a surprise upset, Tom and Tyler dropped to the back of the pack as a result of the U-Turn and were the final team eliminated from the race.
6. In the final leg of the race, teams flew to which Australian city?

Answer: Darwin

Leaving Bangkok, Thailand at the start of the final leg of the race, the final three teams flew to the Northern Territory (via Singapore), stopping off in the city of Darwin. Upon arriving back in their home country, teams needed to search through Darwin International Airport for a representative from Jetstar who would hand them their next clue. And from there, off teams hopped into taxis and headed to their next task at the Darwin Waterfront Precinct.
7. During the final leg of the race, teams had to locate how many newspaper covers relating to the race's events?

Answer: Eight

Arriving at the Big Buoy Water Park in the Darwin Waterfront Precinct, teams had to locate eight correct copies of the 'Northern Territory News' scattered around the edge of the water, each of which would have a cryptic headline relating to an event occurring during the race. If they could hand off the proper headlines they could receive their next clue from the paper's editor and collect a clue telling them to fly three hundred miles inland to Katherine, Northern Territory.
8. For the final Road Block of the race, team members worked with a dog and what other animal?

Answer: Horse

Teams returned to Darwin International Airport's main terminal, but their flight to Katherine wasn't quite so straightforward since they needed to tandem skydive from ten thousand feet to get their next clue, a Road Block sending them on foot to the Katherine Outback Experience in Uralla. For this final Road Block of the race, the selected team member needed to 'run circles'.

The selected team member started by training a cattle dog to run a course and then ended off by taming a wild horse (getting close enough to pet it). Jasmin, Rod, and Joey completed this task.
9. To complete their final task of the race, teams had access to which of these forms of transportation, allowing them to collect puzzle pieces?

Answer: Kayak

For their final task, teams needed to take a helicopter to Nitmiluk Gorge. There, landing at the helicopter pad, teams had to assemble a wooden puzzle taking into account events, teams, items, and locations from throughout the race, stacking them up with the earliest legs on the bottom, in order, to the most recent on the top. Additionally, teams would be missing seven crucial pieces of their puzzle and would need to kayak along the Katherine River to collect them and finish.

Their reward: the final clue.
10. Which team won "The Amazing Race Australia 4"?

Answer: Tim and Rod

The final clue did it; teams were directed to race onward to the finish line for this race on the edge of Nitmiluk Gorge. Finally sorting out the puzzle blocks, it ended up being Tim and Rod who left the challenge ahead of the other teams by a short time and searched on foot around the entire gorge to find the finish line.

The newlyweds ended up winning themselves a $250,000 grand prize at the end of the trail and were followed shortly thereafter by Jasmin and Jerome in second place and Viv and Joey in third.
